About Pre-numbered Labels:

I will send fewer labels than books. This is in case one or two of the books are not fit to pass on or in case you want to keep some as PC or register some yourself. To register a book with a pre-numbered label, you will go to "Make Journal Entry," NOT "Register Book" on the BC site. When you enter in the book's BCID #, the site will prompt you to enter the book's information and you will proceed like you normally do when registering a book, entering the ISBN and other info along with your journal entry. This way I can see where the books travel which I always really enjoy. I love seeing all the places these books go and the many people they touch.

Special Note

Please check the inside cover of each book before registering it. I have done a LOT of releasing in this area over the past 7 years, so occasionally one of "my" books will end up in the boxes of rescued books. This way none of the books gets registered twice! :giggle:

Who I got to meet for my B-day!

Hey Appa! I can come help box and carry, and then maybe pick out a some for me to bring home, while I'm at it. Byron isn't that far from me, so let me let me know where (library address - so I can mapquest for directions) and I'll be there. Might even bring back up help. I got a strong boy that loves stuff like this. ;)

Okay, we ended up with 95 boxes! Redhot-brat and her son were a huge help - they've been hauling enough books lately.

There wasn't that much paperback fiction this year, which is different from previous years. There was a LOT of nonfiction (hardcover and paperback) as well as a bunch of hardcover fiction. We took it all. The library only ended up throwing out about 15 boxes this year, and those were old computer manuals and textbooks.

I'm going to be out of town this weekend at a dog obedience trial, so won't respond to emails for a couple days.

Well, I ask that everyone send postage by July 14th, so that I can be sure to pay off my credit card bill and not worry about interest from letting part of the balance ride for a month. So really any time before then is fine. I'll try to get pictures of the stack of boxes later today, maybe that will help you decide one way or another.

I may have more rescued boxes soon. I advertise for free books on craigslist every so often, and occasionally get a box or two from people.

Then today I received this response to my ad:

My response:

Hi Roger,

Wow, that's a lot of books! I am certainly willing to take them and distribute them to different BookCrossers in the US, although I will probably need to make several trips as I have a fairly small car. 150 boxes would probably require 4-6 trips. I can see if I can twist the arms of some of my friends and family to help out if you are interested. There are also a few local BookCrossers who may be willing to come help, one lady from near Mankato and a couple of gentlemen from up in the Cities who would likely drive down if I gave them enough notice.

BookCrossing is not like any other organization I know about. I would suggest you check out the web site (http://www.BookCrossing.com) as that will give you the best information. We are not a 501c(3) organization, just a bunch of individuals who enjoy sharing the love of books. So if you are planning on writing off your donation, you may want to check out other organizations first. If you do end up donating to the Rochester Friends of the Library booksale (every year in June), BookCrossing will end up with many of your books anyway as I take the book sale remainders each year. In fact, I'm still mailing out boxes from this year's book sale, where we rescued 95 boxes of books which were left over after the sale. I rent a storage unit in Byron each year to hold the overflow from the book sale, so this is the best time of year to take on a project as big as your's since I have the room available now!

Please let me know if you're still interested, and what days/times work best for you to meet up. I do work 50 hours a week at two different jobs (BookCrossing is done during my spare time!), so please be patient if I don't respond immediately. I do try to check my email at least every other day.

Happy Reading!
~ Sara (screen name appaloosatb on BookCrossing.com)

I'll let you guys know if I hear anything back from him.

I also still have plenty of boxes left from the library sale for anyone who's still interested!

How much for each box?
$12/box for postage. Boxes range from 15-30 pounds or so, this year most of the boxes are on the heavier side because of the hardcover books. There's probably an average of 30 books a box, but they range from 20-45 books/box depending on how big the books are. I try to send a good mixture of fiction/nonfiction and hardcover/paperback to everyone.

Dang I gues I did miss this post, how could that have happened!

How bout you let me know how many you have left over, tell me what I owe and I'll mail it your way. Most of the books will be held onto until the Reading Festival next Feburary!

If you need a firm number I can do that to, but it looks like I'm at the end! :headwall:

Tribe, there should be plenty of boxes left for you, no worries! I'm hoping pjlareau and drslump will be willing to drive down from the Cities again this year once I've gotten everything boxed up, because I KNOW I'm going to have leftovers. And if the guy from craigslist does get back to me and wants to unload his books too, eek!

I love what you do with the Akron reading festival, and hope that someday I'll be able to come help you guys out with it. Color me jealous!

Appa -- I still have some of the books from last year, but I'll take two boxes. Can I send you the postage via PayPal? Oh yes -- you sent *way too many* labels last time, so I have plenty.

No paypal account, sorry.

I'm a bit behind on updates and such. Sorry! There is a feral (wild) dog who has been living on its own in our town for 5+ months. I finally figured out where the dog is living (on an abandoned lot). So I've been spending a lot of time sitting out there, leaving food and water, and just getting the dog used to my presence. The plan is to use a humane live trap to catch it next Thursday, once its become used to eating and hanging out in the area. I don't know whether the dog will be able to be rehabilitated or whether it will be too wild/scared or sick to be saved, but even if it can't be saved a humane euthanasia is better than letting the dog starve, freeze, or be poisoned. Anyway, I'm hoping that the dog will become less scared once its had a chance to get used to being around people and no longer has to survive on its own. I'll check back when I get a chance to do updates, but if I'm scarce for the next week at least this way you know why!
