I just realized I never actually introduced myself. I just hopped right in and never left, as I have the habit of doing.

I am Athena aka Kanaye. I dont pronounce Kanaye correctly. I say it Kuh-nay. It has NOTHING to do with Kanye West. I never even heard of him when I first chose the name and now I wish I still havent heard of him.

I work about 8-12 hours a week in a teeny-tiny library (Voluntown) and live in a teeny-tiny apartment. I have a boyfriend, Chris and a big cat, Aladdin (aka Aladdin-kitty). I am also a tad Yaoi-obsessive. *Evil grin* I have odd sleeping habits which is why you will find me posting at 3AM and sleeping at 3PM.

Other than reading, I often play Runescape while listening to a book on cd and crocheting. I like to crochet (but hate knitting), bead, paint, make cards and bookmarks. I am currently working on a blanket for my sister to put on her recliner, so far it has taken me 40+ hours and its just a little over 4feet, 1 more foot to go.

I recently did sorta an expirement on Bookcrossing where I was posting all the books I read every month. By the 4th month it got too much of a hasel so I took it down. I did find out, through this expirement, that I read an average of 5 books a week (which is why posting them was such a pain).

I read gay-male fiction and fantasy the most. I also read a few teens mixed in. I tend to re-read books I like over and over and over.

I have waaay too many books in my oh so tiny apartment, but then again, if I lived in a mansion I still think the space:books ratio would be about the same.

While I am not a published author (I wish) I do have a few short stories floating around the internet, all of a gay male subject.

I really dont know what else to say about me... and Ive probably said too much already.

I just read through all 14 pages of this thread -- it's sort of fun to see the long-ago intros of folks who are now regulars and to wonder what's become of those who floated in and introduced themselves then drifted away.

Well, this is so not the place for this comment, but I like to kick up some dirt here on BO (tongue firmly in cheek!) - anyway, MsJo, Akiva is 1 year old!! How wonderful for you! Did you have a big bash to celebrate your first year of motherhood?

We had a nice family party. His great-grandmother, great-uncle, great-aunt, and three of his five grandparents, plus the neighbor and her slightly-older-than-Akiva son. It was lovely.

It's so amazing to think about the changes after just a year. Yesterday was one-year mark from my original due date for the pregnancy. And by this time next year, he'll be a Missouri kid, probably talking up a storm by then. Wow!

Well, I can tell you, and it's quite the story.

I joined book obsessed last year I think. Right before falling into a huge pit of trouble, depression, and absolutely no funding. My wife and I struggled quite a bit and our marriage dwindled to the very last threads. So, book trading and the socialising surrounding it was the last thing on my mind. We almost seperated, but, somehow worked things out, and soon after there was a job fair for Hewlett Packard at the local college, I was still well within the depths of depression, but, I figured what the hell, I almost lost my marriage, the worse they can do is say no and I go back to how things are, nothing to lose, right?

So, I go to the job fair. My anxiety kicks in full swing, so I just grin like an idiot the entire time and dig my nails into my hands so bad they begin to bleed, I just hide it by holding my folder facing towards me and pretending to be left handed when shaking hands and meeting people. I go to the pre-interview, smile, talk, explain my passion for computers, my experience, living in Canada, and just have a chat with the guy, he was horribly nice. He tells me he believes I'd be a good fit for the company and that he'd like to give me an actual interview so he writes down on a slip of paper and I go off to to another office and schedule for the second interview. So, at the end, I realise, wow, I just did something I never though I'd do in a million years, -and- I got past the first interview. Tons of people did not.

The time for the next interview comes, I go to a big scary building in Little Rock, sit there for who knows how long, get another interview. I'm a bit more confident, I mean, I already did this once right? I talk to the guy, do much the same, he gives me an aptitude test, I ace it. I explain a bit of my programming experience and what I like to do. He says little about it but is glad to have met me and did say I was one of the only ones to complete the aptitude test perfectly. Somewhere, something clicks. He doesn't have to say anything. I go back down, greet my wife, and announce to her quite confidently that I got the job.

A month passes, and I haven't gotten any call back. I begin to wonder if I was correct. I figure I'll wait one more week and then give them a call. It's thanksgiving weekend and the phone rings. I answer, and it's a woman from HP who asks if I'd like to work for them. I reply 'Hell yeah.' I couldn't express myself any more eloquently. She laughed and told me I start in January.

So... that's still some ways away. We still struggle to make it til then, and then January, I started. I've been so busy since then I could hardly accomplish anything else. It's now 6 and 1/2 months later, and I just started working in full. Had a full 6 months of training. I've loved every minute of the job and my life has turned around. I've finally, and probably more appropriately, come to a point where I can go back to my hobbies and enjoy them -responsibly- instead of them consuming my life.

I'm sure that's more story than most want ;) but, it's something I feel good about sharing and want to kind of post as a re-introduction. I know I disappeared shortly after my intro last time. I hope this time to be able to stick around a bit longer and to actually be able to participate.

Nice to have you here, nanenj. Sounds like you've been through a lot. I'm glad you're doing better now. I understand the anxiety and depression. I've suffered quite a few bouts of them myself.

Wow anenj, nice to hear about your success in working out your marriage and your job. Way to go! And thanks for letting us know! We look forward to seeing you more often here!!

I love your post because I was in a similar situation too. I saw a post about a company's job fair. I like shopping at that company but didn't think about working there or that I would find the job I'm looking for there. But I figure I've been sitting at home waiting for replies to resumes I sent, and re-checking job sites and seeing the same old ads, I should get out of the house to do something. Now I'm with the company for almost three years, loving it, been promoted a couple of times.

So, you never know what life has in store for you!
