About 19 months from release to journal on this one...

The Emperor and the Nightingale, caught in MTL!

If you ever go to Montreal, be sure to leave some books around! Adam and I were there for a weekend in March of '07 and I released 5 books in different spots around the city (one was in ur hotel around the Old Port area, one was at the gate of Montreal's main Chinatown, one was on a subway train under the St Lawrence River, one was at an internet terminal in a shopping centre called Complexe Desjardins, and one was at a theatre in Place-des-Arts). To date, 4 f the 5 have been journalled! 3 of those 4 have been re-released and journalled again since then. One was journalled the second time by an Israeli travelling in Mexico, one by another montrealler who said they left it in Central Park, NYC, and one by someone from a town farther north in Quebec. The Israeli and the person who originally journalled that release both joined, so there have been 2 new members from my MTL releases, too! Maybe it's just a lucky city for me or something, lol, but I'm happy with those numbers anyway.

I released 13 books yesterday for Halloween.... so far, one has been caught:

ETA: There was a second one caught. This one was found on the same street where I left it, but just shy of 2 km south of my release spot.

Both of these finders have joined, too!

On our Valentine's trip, I left books in Mississauga, Toronto, Kingston, Montreal, Longueuil, and Laval. I messed up the release note for the one I left in Laval... but it got caught before I could fix it. Anyway... out of, I think 9 releases so far in '09, 2 have been caught, the one from Laval, and one I left in Cambridge:

Well I wild released about 55 books day before yesterday and yesterday. however I erm didn't write all the titles down so am now thumbing my list to log them all. I dropped a whole bunch at a local detention facility for the staff and guards.. talk about a delighted bunch of folks. (Three of them looked like they couldn't wait to poke over the box) We'll see if they log any. =)

Which leads me to a question. How do you track a large wild release? *curious*

I've never done one that large, Kiri!

Isn't it funny how some books just seem to vanish and others hop about all over the place? I got a JE a couple days ago on a copy of The Call of The Wild... I took it from Cambridge to the tiny town of Wolverton, where I wild released it.... a man from Wolverton found it, journalled, and joined.... and gave it to a friend of his in Hamilton who journalled, joined, and wild released it.... and now it's been found by someone from Grimsby who has journalled and joined as well! So that's 3 new members, from 3 different places, all generated by a book that's been out there for a little over 3 months!

The Call of the Wild... currently in Grimsby.

A nice one! ( The book has obviously been enjoying the sights of Shrewsbury for a few months before going to see a film!)

I have really bad luck with releases. I think Elsi is the closest active bookcrosser to me, and she lives over an hour and a half away.

I did get a hit once on a Charmed book I released at a Bank of America ATM. The person was from about 2 hours away and just traveling... but I was happy with it!

I think that's the only one I've ever got, it's the only one I remember anyway... Oh.. no wait.. I did get another one. I left on in a hotel while I was travling, and I got a catch on it because an employee found it in the lost and found.

I keep hopeing that if I release enough either this town will be littered with books or I'll bring more people to bookcrossing.

You gals have so much luck. For me not so much. But there is one book that I seemed to get a coupe of hits off of.

I had so many books in "traveling" status on my bookshelf that I have just about given up wild-releasing. I think that if I want the books to have more probability of being picked up and journaled, I'll try to release them in OBCZs -- in addition to the swapping here.

Just want to share that a couple of weeks ago I was in Kansas City for the UnCon and there was a reverse scavenger hunt. It was totally fun and I wish there is enough of a local group where I live so we can organize something like this. Of the 23 books I released I got one catch, which is not too bad.

And a slightly twisted version of the UnCon and releases by my toy Mocha:

I've noticed a few people saying that they don't wild release because they don't want their books thrown out and not read again here on the site.

I wanted to share a catch I got from a wild release I did yesterday, that shows even if a book isn't journaled (unlike this one was) it can still get passed on to read. The last book I set free at this particular restaurant I watched a waitress find the book and hand it to a group of airline staff who had come in for breakfast before their next flight out of the nearby airport.it's never been journaled, but I know it traveled as there were some very exited stewardesses in the group that took the book.

The Catch: The Curious Eat Themselves

This one is getting passed on to another customer when she comes in next :)

And from my trip to lovely Columbus for Origins Gaming Convention a few weeks back I have gotten 4 catches. The last three were all caught by the same finder at a different con over on the East Coast!

About 2 months ago our local BC group did a mass release at the zoo, which was a lot of fun! On last count we had 5 catches! (and there were only 3 of us releasing about 15 books).

I have not wild-released much since then but today, had an immediate catch(which is rare for me) at the gas station:
