Title: nicks for partners, children, pets
Description: how do you refer to them on-line?
Potok-fan - March 15, 2007 10:29 AM (GMT)
This topic is inspired by a book I saw in the side-bar on bookcrossing:
http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/4842351The book was released by Batsheep, but originally belonged to Batsheep's "other half", "Batram". The first time I read that I actually thought the partner's name was "Bertram", as in "Wooster"!!
But then when I realized what it said I thought it was fun and cool! It makes my references to "Mr Potok-fan" sound uninspired and boring, although I do still think "Potok-dog" is a little funny...
I do sometimes call my partner "Mr Potok", but then it sounds like my name means I'm his fan (which of course I am!), but originally the name referred to the author Chaim Potok, who I suspect is nothing like Mr P-f.
How about the rest of you? Do you have cool names to use online for the other beings in your life? Do you use those abbreviations which it's taken me an embarrassingly long time to work out, like DD (I thought it was the name Dee-Dee, but now I gather it's "darling daughter")?

I usually just refer to my husband as husband or hubby. Although others have refered to him as Mr. cheesygiraffe. I call my boys, son. Oldest and youngest. Again others have called them cheesy jr.

I call my daughter J sometimes... but that's just because her name is Jordan and I've called her J on and off since she was a baby.

Just DH and DS for me. I think about them in that way too, and have even called them that in real life once or twice!
DH is definitely NOT Lord or Sir anything to go with Ladyjanet. DS does think he's a prince though, complete with serfs.

I'm not married.... but when I talk about my BF I usually just use his name (Adam), a short form that I actually call him (ie: Ad), or scared4, cause that's the name he uses online.
He usually just uses my name, but sometimes his friends refer to me as "the missus" when they post stuff to him online (on facebook etc) but it's inaccurate as I am still a Miss.

WAY back when I first started posting on LiveJournal, I used to refer to people I knew in Real Life but not online by their relationship to me. So I had Mom, Dad, Brother 1, Brother 2, Fiance (and then ex-fiance), Best Friend, etc.
Then I decided that it was too much of a pain, and got too confusing, and really what did it matter if people knew their first names anyway?
So now I refer to everyone by what I actually call them. So there's still Mom & Dad, but now it's Nik, Chris, Dave, Kavia, etc.
