Title: Vampire TV Series: "Blood Ties", Lifetime TV
Description: Begins Sun., 3/11 - Vicki Nelson/Henry F

ladiibbug - March 7, 2007 05:17 PM (GMT)
Lifetime TV's series premiere of "Blood Ties" is Sun., March 11 (9pm - check local listings).

Based on Tanya Huff's Victory Nelson (PI)/Henry Fitzroy (450 year old vampire) "Blood" series:

http://www.lifetimetv.com/shows/bloodties/index.php

I read the five "Blood" books recently and found them highly enjoyable,
very imaginative & original. The books featured lots of action and very little romance.

Thanks for the reminder about this. I've seen previews, but never caught the start date. I'm betting it's going to be on at the same time as Dresden Files.

needmorezoloft - March 7, 2007 06:07 PM (GMT)
I've been waiting on this... they just announced the date.. I still haven't read the books yet either. :whip:

Oh crap that's right! And I've still got the gen 1 TiVo that can only record one channel at a time, the one you're watching. *pout*

BTW, this was also discussed in the Author & Book News forum, which I realize overlaps this one somewhat....

cheesygiraffe - March 7, 2007 07:28 PM (GMT)
I will watch The Dresden Files for now since I have read some of that series. I will watch these when there are reruns of DF. :)

caseyw - March 7, 2007 09:29 PM (GMT)
Dresden will win out with me too. I'm hooked. I may try to tape the other upstairs...if I can get the stuff to cooperate.

CheriePie - March 7, 2007 10:27 PM (GMT)
Here's the post where Sand brought it up previously since it contains a few other links and trailers and such.

(Maybe we should separate some of those things out of that single thread to make it easier to see simply by scanning titles rather than keep it all in a single thread  )

wss4 - March 8, 2007 01:32 AM (GMT)
Dresden Files is also on other nights as well as being on again later in the night.

So you should be able to DVR both shows. I am going to check the tv schedule tonight. I have the Tanya Huff books on my TBR pile so I will probably DVR the show until I get to read at least the first book.

Kyrissaean - March 8, 2007 04:03 AM (GMT)
They're putting this up against The Dresden Files and Desperate Housewives? Erm, that seems like asking for trouble to me... :erm:

ladiibbug - March 8, 2007 04:20 AM (GMT)
Actually you might want to check your local listings. My Direct TV guide shows the two-hour season premiere is on at 6pm, followed by Grey's Anatomy at 8pm, then Blood Ties shows again at 9pm.

 Grey's Anatomy is a Thursday show on the east coast.

I checked, and Dresden, DH, and Blood Ties are all 9 o'clockers here this week. (That's normal for Dresden and DH.)

Maybe it's usually going to be a 10 o'clock show here, and it's just starting early 'cos it's a long premiere... [Calls up listings for future weeks...] Ooh! Yes -- I think it will be a 10 o'clocker! OK, that's a much smarter idea -- so anyone watching DH or Dresden can then watch Blood Ties right afterwards! :D

Awesome! Thanks for the additional info Kyri! Since you're probably only about an hour or so from me, I assume my info will be the same. :)

More like 3 hours (tippy tippy top of I-93!) but yeah, I'd bet our major network coverage was pretty darn similar.

CheriePie - March 8, 2007 10:32 PM (GMT)
Really? Is it that far? :o I guess since I'm only like 1/2 hour from Salem, NH I forget that New Hampshire is so damn tall! And extends all the way up to the Canadian border, eh? :P (I actually found you on the map at World Atlas too so now I have a better idea visually how far up you are.)

So yup, I went into my TiVo listings today and the times are just like yours. With the premiere being at nine, but the following week at 10. I also found that the premiere on the 11th is being reshown at midnight. :woot2: So I just set it up to record the midnight showing instead. Well, of course, it's only midnight so y'all know I'll still be up, but still, I'm psyched that I can watch and record both now. :yahoo:

needmorezoloft - March 12, 2007 01:12 PM (GMT)
I missed it! I'm sure they'll reshow it... lifetime's good about that.

I just couldn't get J to go to bed... she didn't seam to care the clock said it was her bedtime :P

Tribefan - March 12, 2007 01:59 PM (GMT)
I thought the show was great! The person they have playing Henry is GREAT! Just sexy enough with hypnotic eyes and smile!!!

Another show added to my DVR Series record options!!!

Pulled out all 5 books to re-read since it's been so long....

SandDanz - March 12, 2007 02:29 PM (GMT)
I think it got taped at my parent's house but haven't confirmed that it did record as dad bought a new DVD/VHS recorder and we were testing it out on that show. So... hopefully it worked!

cheesygiraffe - March 12, 2007 02:34 PM (GMT)
I forgot about it! LOL I was watching me some Dresden Files. I love Harry. :D
Umm does anyone know when it reairs?

I went to Yahoo TV, and it doesn't show re-airing

needmorezoloft - March 12, 2007 03:23 PM (GMT)
We're saved girls!!!!

You can watch the first hour of the season premiere on itunes for free... but um... was it longer than an hour? I hope not!

caseyw - March 12, 2007 03:26 PM (GMT)
It was two hours, NMZ, so you're in trouble.

I taped the second showing last night at 11 CST so I could watch Dresden Files. Not sure when I'll get to watch it.

wss4 - March 12, 2007 07:59 PM (GMT)
I DVRd it but have not watched as we went to my sisters baby shower yesterday. I can put it on DVD as I bought a new DVD recorder the other day, if anyone missed it and wants a copy. Just let me know.

caseyw - March 14, 2007 01:08 PM (GMT)
I finally got to watch this last night and all I can say about Henry is
Not sure I can wait for nancyluvsbooks to give me the first of this series at our next meet-up. I want them now.

caseyw - March 15, 2007 06:28 PM (GMT)
They didn't take long to get this put up.

I still haven't read my books, but so far, it hasn't detracted from the show in any way. For those who have read the books, do you think it gives you anything extra, insight or whatnot, into the story line? I do have all of them waiting here on Mt. TBR, but I owe so much other stuff that I haven't been able to justify making time for them yet. (Unless of course someone tells me the show is sooooooo much better after having read the books first.)

Tribefan - March 19, 2007 03:02 PM (GMT)
The first episode followed closely with the first book. The second episode was all new. I think the show does a great job!

Oh I'm loving it. I'm taping it for a friend who doesn't have cable. She won't be able to watch them until late July because she working on finishing her masters in education. Don't want to distract her.

I've also added all the books to my wishlist. As I've said, I've got the first book pending from a local BCer, but not sure I can wait that long.

I believe there is one in the Paranormal Virtual Bookbox!

caseyw - March 19, 2007 07:12 PM (GMT)
Yep, I saw that, but since it was the second one, I left it alone. I'm probably going to end up buying the omnibus with the first two in it anyway.

kislany - March 20, 2007 06:24 PM (GMT)
I think I also saw some of them offered at bookmooch.

ladiibbug - March 26, 2007 04:08 PM (GMT)
I'm absolutely loving the TV version of Tanya Huff's books!

The casting is great, I think, as is the acting. Henry is the nice gentleman - until he gets his vamp on  I love how they film Henry planting suggestions into people's minds.

Did anyone see last night's ep, "Buttercup" and the little girl?

The two geeky guys working in the comic shop were so damn funny, OMG! :P "Shut UP, you still live with your mother!!"

Each episode has been awesome!

caseyw - March 26, 2007 06:15 PM (GMT)
I'm loving this show too. They cracked me up last night when Henry said he had a meeting with the boogie man later (or something along that line). And Vicki said..."how is the boogie man? I haven't seen him since I was five."

ETA: I also liked Henry's comeback when Vicki asked if could smell the murderer - "I'm a vampire, not a bloodhound."

SciFisstrs - April 11, 2007 07:25 AM (GMT)
I started watching Bloodties by accident. I was looking for something to watch while waiting for my hubby to go to work. Since we have this Comcast On Demand I was checking out Lifetime and seen Bloodties watched the 1st show than the next 2. Now I look for it every week  I like Viki :) And the chemistry that she and Henry have.

ladiibbug - April 11, 2007 06:21 PM (GMT)
The writing on Blood Ties is so smart & witty. I find myself listening closely to catch every word.

In Sunday's Desperate Housewives-like ep, one of my favorite lines:

"This is an investigation, not a picnic"

caseyw - April 11, 2007 07:39 PM (GMT)
:duh: I never thought to look on Lifetime On Demand for the shows.

CheriePie - April 12, 2007 04:12 AM (GMT)
Wow that's cool to know! I've been saving them all on my TiVo because I eventually need to get around to installing the software for burning them from TiVo while hopefully bypassing any special restrictions it has that'll keep me from watching it anywhere I want in the future.

We had to do Soprano's from On Demand on Sunday night because the season premier of that (which I think is okay but is a fave of Mike's) was conflicting with Harry and Vicki.

Actually, we found out after that the first Harry at 9, at least here on the east coast, was a rerun, while the new episode was at 10pm, conflicting instead with Blood Ties instead of the the Sopranos. I wonder if they did that on purpose thinking it might be some of the same watchers of Soprano's since it's more well-known than Blood Ties. But we ended up catching Blood Ties at Midnight then so it was all good. :D

ladiibbug - April 16, 2007 04:34 PM (GMT)
:o  OMG, poor Henry!!!!!!! :erm:

Yikes, talk about a cliff hanger ending  . I was squealing at the TV, I'm sure :erm:

I love this show!!!

ETA: And it's educational, too. Last night I learned that Sasquatch is a vegetarian.

caseyw - April 16, 2007 06:35 PM (GMT)
Oh I know! I couldn't believe they left us hanging like that. I'm just grateful it was the season finale and making us wait 6 months or more to find out what happens.

Good info to know if I'm ever lost in the woods. I don't have to worry about Sasquatch eating me.

kislany - April 19, 2007 08:36 AM (GMT)
Crap! I could have killed Mike right there!

caseyw - April 19, 2007 07:04 PM (GMT)
That makes two of us Kislany. I'm ready for Henry to make a snack out of him.

I'm reading the first book of this series now and just loving it. Good thing I'm not on the clock because I've gone over my lunch hour two days in a row now. And since I'm not terribly busy, I think I'm going to sneak in some more reading. :P
