Title: Raiding Bookshelves Swap part two!
Description: Oooh we love a poll!
giz-angel - February 25, 2007 10:20 AM (GMT)
OK I am thinking of 30th / 31st March for this and I am also thinking to say no series books as a rule. Cos most people said that in their options anyway.
So it's just to decide about how to do the picking thing. I'm thinking go with 3 books but I want to see what everyone thinks.
Then that's enough polls already!
catsalive - February 25, 2007 10:34 AM (GMT)
Sounds a fair thing to me. I mainly worry about having to send an enormous book internationally, so would hope that all the choices wouldn't be 500+ pages.
Cheers.
chronicbooker3 - February 25, 2007 02:21 PM (GMT)
I voted for choosing 3 books :D
caseyw - February 25, 2007 03:07 PM (GMT)
I went with the three.. And the raidee can pick them as far as I'm concerned.
wss4 - February 25, 2007 03:22 PM (GMT)
Date looks good for me and I picked choose 3 books. Would we be allowing series books if it was the first in the series? Just curious.
chambejd - February 25, 2007 04:10 PM (GMT)
I choose "Choose 3 books and the raidee gets to pick one, and tells you which"; however, if all of the three books are fine with me, I will let the raider choose.
fantasy221 - February 25, 2007 05:07 PM (GMT)
I voted for the 3 books option.
giz-angel - February 25, 2007 05:08 PM (GMT)
I've confused myself now
SO for example, Ace is given my shelf to raid, I pick s list of books for her to raid and she picks one of them. Is that what you read it as? I pick 3 or more books and Ace picks which one she wants me to use from that?
cheesygiraffe - February 25, 2007 05:24 PM (GMT)
That's how I took it Giz. ;)
giz-angel - February 25, 2007 06:08 PM (GMT)
OK! That sounds good to me.
CheriePie - February 25, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)
I might be interested in playing with we went with the 3 rule. But I also wouldn't mind allowing series books if they're series that I'm fairly caught up on. For instance, so many of the vampire paranormals I read are part of a series so not allowing people to take those would negate a significant portion of my shelf. But if ithe series book is like #8 on a series I haven't started yet, I can see why I wouldn't want to allow that book. Thus the rule of 3 would be handy.
I shouldn't have a problem to go back and make sure all my reserved books are marked as such, though I may not be able to do so with my PCs. However, so long as I could state to check the j/e for TBRs as some might be PCs (and it'd be immediately obvious in the top journal entry that this was so).
So.... to make a long story short, I actually voted then since there's a chance I might play after all. :D

See I was unclear on this too. In my head, when I brought it up the first time, I thought it was the raider picks three books and the raidee (the shelf owner) picks the final book from that list. But then I had to read the options a couple of times because it makes it seem like from what you said, that the raider isn't really raiding, just picking the final book.
I suppose it doesn't matter that much at this point. I'll just have to wait and see how things work out before deciding whether I'll play or not.
giz-angel - February 25, 2007 06:25 PM (GMT)
Well I shall leave this poll open for a while and get everyone's thoughts. Then try and make rules to fit!
redhot-brat - February 25, 2007 07:20 PM (GMT)
One or Three --- either works for me.

Fantasy - that's the way we originally played - the raider chooses 3 books from the raidee's shelf and the raidee gets to choose which of the 3 books will be used for the swap. So if Ace is given my shelf to raid, she looks through and chooses 3 books - PM's me with the titles - and I choose one of those 3 to use for the swap.

Can we combat this problem with giving our raidee 3 books in the order we want them in? :)

That is also the way that I was reading it. That allows the raider the freedom of choosing any three books, but allows the bookshelf owner the opportunity to negate certain books if they do not want to use them.

giz-angel - February 26, 2007 08:11 AM (GMT)
OK I am going to give up on this now! My head is all mashed up  I think I was right in what I meant and what Fantasy said.
Ace raids my shelf and picks 3 books she likes the look of, I pick one of those 3 and tell her, so she knows it's going to be my reveal.
And that's the way we are going to play :D and I will leave it up to indivduals if they want to say no to series books, and also what they want to offer ie just AVLs or AVLs/TBRs etc. Just say what you want to do in the sign up thread. WHich I will do nearer the time.
And just to say I need a volunteer to do the matching ;)

I can help
And, yes, this is how we want to do it!
The bookshelf raider can put their three choices in order and if the bookshelf owner really has no preference then the top choice will be offered

I don't think you need to tell the raider what book you are going to reveal (of the three they picked), but I don't think it makes a huge difference if you do ;)
Xeyra - February 27, 2007 04:01 PM (GMT)
I'm so looking forward to this one again. I loved the last one. Though I'm not sure what book I got out of it, actually, or whether I've received it.
AM10000 - February 27, 2007 04:03 PM (GMT)
I love these swaps too, but I'm afraid my TBR pile is too small to give a good choice, so I probably won't be able to play..
giz-angel - February 27, 2007 05:53 PM (GMT)
Good we are all clear then.
And AM I am sure there are enough books on your TBR - what do you MEAN you don't have enough :o Am I the only one with a scary amount of TBR?
redhot-brat - February 27, 2007 06:04 PM (GMT)

chronicbooker3 - February 28, 2007 02:16 AM (GMT)

I'm confused now but I haven't finished reading all the posts. I picked the 3 book option but I thought the raider would pick those 3 & I would just have the final say over which one would be used.
Has this been cleared up yet. Should I just keep reading and all will be revealed? :dunce: :erm:

Yup, we've done lots of TBR raiding in the past. I predict much raiding from TBR piles!
And um, when are we having this again? Do we know yet?

I thought we are raiding the AVL shelf? So it's the TBR shelf that we are raiding?

Well, some people don't have much on their AVL shelf, so they make their TBR shelf open to raiding as well. At least, that's how it has worked in the past...

That made sense to me...the other way didn't really make sense. I've never played in one of these but I'm interested. Is there any stealing in this swap? I'm all about stealing!! :pirate:
So if person A selected 3 books from person B's shelf, and I like the looks of those 3 books, can I (Person C) steal from Person A instead of raiding Person D's shelf? Of course, Person B gets the final say in which of the 3 books gets read.
Sorry if I'm confusing things...

It was my understanding that once the raider picked the book (or let the shelf owner knew their selections and the owner made the decision) the rest of the swap worked like normal. So you can steal if you want to, but I think you'd only be stealing one book, which ever one the raider/owner picked. Unless of course, the owner chose to use all three books as their reveal....

Why wouldn't there be stealing?
The last one of these I played in, there was lots of stealing. And people often didn't ask the person whose shelf they raided to reveal. We like the books that other people here pick. :)
