Title: Raiding Bookshelves Swap
Description: Anyone want one?

giz-angel - February 23, 2007 08:07 PM (GMT)
Anyone interested?

If there is some interest I will probably do it for a weekend towards the middle of March :D

For those that don't know what I am going on about, the raiding bookshelves swap works like this:

Everyone who signs up is assigned a person's shelf to raid. When you sign up, you say if you want to go AVL only, AVL/TBR and any restrictions for example no series.

You need to make sure your shelf is tidy i.e. all the books are marked correctly. RES anything you don't want to be considered.

Once you get the shelf to raid, you get a certain amount of time (24 hours) to raid and PM the person who's shelf it is, to tell them what they will be revealing in the swap.

Then the swap proceeds as normal, you don't have to ask for the reveal you chose. It's fun seeing who ends up with the book they raided!

But if you vote maybe then tell us why!

cheesygiraffe - February 23, 2007 08:19 PM (GMT)
I said maybe. I'm not sure yet.

camis - February 23, 2007 08:25 PM (GMT)
I was just thinking the other day that we needed another one of these :D

msjoanna - February 23, 2007 08:44 PM (GMT)
This sounds like fun.

chronicbooker3 - February 23, 2007 08:48 PM (GMT)
Ive never played in a swap like this. It could be fun :D I voted maybe but it will more then likely be a yes :angry2: I cant help myself.

Kyrissaean - February 23, 2007 08:55 PM (GMT)
Ooh -- yes, we should do it! I wanna play! :D

Sunlightbub - February 23, 2007 08:58 PM (GMT)
Yay!! I've been meaning to suggest another one for ages!!

caseyw - February 23, 2007 09:16 PM (GMT)
I'm saying maybe because it depends on when you have it.

Also, will you be hosting it here?

zosime - February 23, 2007 10:11 PM (GMT)
Sounds fancy! I'd play.

boogal - February 23, 2007 10:13 PM (GMT)
The last one was so much fun! :bananadance:

It will be here cos it's easier for these swaps, and it's cosier

I was thinking maybe 16th / 17th March or 30th/31st March.

Danesnboxers - February 23, 2007 10:55 PM (GMT)
Most definitely. These are fun.

redhot-brat - February 23, 2007 11:34 PM (GMT)
Now that I know how they work , I'd love to join in. This sounds fun. However I marked it as maybe , cause it will depend on which date you decide to go with.

If you go with March 30th/31st I can play , but if you go with March 16th/17th I can't. That is our anniversary weekend (11 yrs) and we will be away on a romantic getaway weekend ..... no computers/tv's etc etc ..... only phones (incase the kids need us).

So as soon as you have a set date .... I'll give ya a set answer.

caseyw - February 24, 2007 12:04 AM (GMT)
I'm going to say I'm 95% sure I'm gonna play then.

azuki - February 24, 2007 12:45 AM (GMT)
Wow sounds like fun.
I would like to join, although depending on my work and travel schedule this may change.

CheriePie - February 24, 2007 01:26 AM (GMT)
I like the idea in theory, but for the longest time, I've been marking my PC books I haven't read yet as TBR, simply so that I know which ones (esp in a series) I haven't read yet.

I'd like to eventually have all that info locally in my BookCollector software, at which time I can mark them as PC up at BookCrossing whether I've read them or not, but until I get all the rest of my data over, I prefer to leave them marked as TBR. I do however put a note in bold at the very top stating that they're Personal Collection books, if that makes a difference.

But anyway, I just don't feel my shelf is in good enough order to play in something like this just yet. Maybe by mid-year it will be though...

HoserLauren - February 24, 2007 03:46 AM (GMT)
Yes!!

fantasy221 - February 24, 2007 04:56 AM (GMT)
I'd like to play but with the option that the raider picks 3 or 4 books and the owner has the final say on what book to offer. I know this variation came up the first time we had this kind of swap and we decided not to do it that way, but I still personally prefer that as it gives the shelf owner the opportunity to make the final decision... just my two cents user posted image

I'm willing to give it a try.

Ditto Fantasy's quote here. :ditto:

The reason we didn't go with that rule about picking 3 or 4 books is it kind of takes away the point - the person is raiding bookshelves, you don't get to choose what they raid! And the GOOD thing about that is it takes away any book choosing stress - if they pick a sucky book, it's not your fault! But if the majority of people want that rule, I'll go with it. I'd prefer the one book rule myself though.

malagan - February 24, 2007 10:45 AM (GMT)
I like this kind of swap! :D
Due to the high increase in the price of sending overseas I am restricted in playing in swaps, but in this swap I would definitely play ! :D

Hmm..... when I played last we had 3 choices and the book owner got to choose one of the 3..... I had already responded yes to the poll, but if it's a one book only and that's it, I won't play. Sorry, but my shelf is just WAY too big for me to go through and mark anything I don't want included as RES for the game and then go through and change them all back. When I played this before, we were also able to specify up front things like "no series books".....

HoserLauren - February 24, 2007 03:15 PM (GMT)
I'd be ok with selecting 2 or 3 books, so long as the person you are raiding tells you what book they are ok with.

TITurtle1 - February 24, 2007 03:34 PM (GMT)
I voted maybe just because I'm not sur ehow my bookshelf will look by then. :)

I understand the point of the swap the way you envisioned it... I just remember that when we did it the first time there were a lot of people who communicated that while they didn't have a problem with someone raiding their shelves, they'd prefer to have the final say over what was offered, and I thought I remembered that the compromise we came up with was to do it with 'one book only' that time and at some point in the future we'd do it the other way. As I remember it, the benefits of having 3 books to choose from is that the final reveal is still a surprise to the raider and the owner isn't committed to using a book that they were unable to res or pc for whatever reason.

I was only suggesting we might give the other way a shot this time around, but if not that's cool too.

I didn't vote in the poll yet because I don't want to play if I can't have the final say over what I offer.

The last time we did it I think the raidee responded back to let the raider know which book they were going to use.
I prefer this.

Kyrissaean - February 25, 2007 07:03 AM (GMT)
Actually, the very first couple raiding bookshelves swaps were a little different than all this! It was a riot! There was no assigning each person one shelf to raid -- each shelf got raided once, but that could be done by anyone when it was their turn to play! And then of course once your shelf was raided then that was "your" reveal and the book went into play like usual.

So instead of "will you steal or reveal" it was "will you steal or raid any unraided shelf"!

I've liked all the kinds of Raiding Swaps though -- I just thought I'd mention that 'cos they've all been fun. I'm in however the rules work out this time. :D

giz-angel - February 25, 2007 10:16 AM (GMT)
OK it looks like the majority would like the choose 3 books way..... I remember the other one Kyri - the reason I went with this way, was cos some people never got the chance to raid..... It was a blast though. Maybe we could do that one next time?

wss4 - February 25, 2007 03:20 PM (GMT)
I voted maybe because I would have to be sure of the date first (we are going to Disney in March) and I know that my bookshelf is not nearly neat enough to do one book only. lol

Does sound like a lot of fun though and hopefully it will work out so that I can play.

cathepsut - March 2, 2007 07:45 AM (GMT)
I would like to join, please! I might be travelling on the 30th or 31st of March, but I am sure I could get hold of a computer to check in at some point...
