Title: May Day Exchange -- partners being sent
Description: check in

wss4 - February 20, 2007 04:49 AM (GMT)
Please check in here to let me know that you have gotten your PM with your partner and everything is ok. I tried to make sure that everyones shipping preferences were met and I think I did it. If by some chance I messed up just let me know.

Remember you need to send your partner one wish list book. If you wish to send more you can but no one should expect more than one wish list book. Packages need to be mailed so that they arrive before the May 1st Opening Day. Overseas packages shipped via surface take a while so be sure that you ship them in time to arrive. We don't want anyone to be disappointed on opening day.

Happy May Day!!!

*checked in and happy with fantastic partner I got!

I got mine!! Thanks!!!!

Potok-fan - February 20, 2007 08:35 AM (GMT)
This is Potok-fan, checking in as happy with the fantastic partner I got! :D

Sorry to clutter up your in-box with another PM before I saw this thread, but at least now you are absolutely sure that I got the message.

As I said, this is my first exchange. Presumably the one thing I can presume about the person who's going to send ME a wishlist book is that it's not the same I'm sending one to? Are we supposed to try to be super-mysterious in our return address on the parcel and/or should it be plastered with "Do not open until MayDay" labels? Just keep pointing me in the right direction, and I'm ready to have fun with this! :bananadance:

Don't worry about it a bit.

The person that you are sending a package to is not the same person who will be sending to you. That way it is more of a surprise. As far as mailing address, that is up to you but if you are shipping International and have to use a customs form it is sometimes hard to remain secret.

Yes be sure to plaster it with Do Not Open Till May Day so that your partner will know to stash the package.

Your doing great and I am sure that your partner is going to be thrilled to have you as their May Day pal!!!

I've got mine. You did a great job setting this up, Wendy.

I do need to let whoever has me know I do have a slight problem with opening day. I didn't realize it when I signed up, but I will be out of the country on opening day. I leave on April 28 and do not return until May 10 so there will be a delay in me posting in the opening day thread. Sorry to be a downer!

We'll have to decide whether you should open the package up early or late then. That may depend on how fast I can get the package sent out.

If you can pull a theme out of this (Cherie can probably help out on this as she knows a lot more about the significance of May Day)--

May Day
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article is about the holidays celebrated on May 1st. For other uses, see Mayday.
May Day is May 1, and refers to any of several holidays celebrated on this day. May 1 was a traditional springtime holiday in many pre-Christian European pagan cultures, and many elements of these holidays are still celebrated on May 1 today, such as the Maypole. "May Day" also refers to various socialist and labor movement celebrations conducted on May 1, unrelated to the traditional celebrations to commemorate the Haymarket Riot of 1886 and the international socialist movement generally. The latter event is an important holiday in Communist countries and Waldorf Schools.

The earliest May Day celebrations appeared in pre-Christian Europe, as in the Celtic celebration of Beltane, and the Walpurgis Night of the Germanic countries. Although the pagan-oriented celebrations faded as Europe became Christianised, a more secular version of the holiday continued to be observed in the schools and churches of Europe well into the 20th century. In this form, May Day may be best known for its tradition of dancing the Maypole and crowning of the Queen of the May. Today many Neopagans, especially Wiccans, celebrate reconstructed versions of the old pagan holidays on May 1.

Among American non-pagans, May Day is now more commonly celebrated as a commemoration of the Haymarket Riot of 1886 in Chicago, United States which occurred on May 4, but was the culmination of labor unrest which began on May 1. The date consequently became established as an anarchist and socialist holiday during the 20th century, and in these circles it is often known as International Workers' Day or Labour Day. In this form, May Day has become an international celebration of the social and economic achievements of the working class and labor movement.

I was planning on a spring theme for mine if I can pull it off. It's so difficult to send socialism through the mail... (The customs forms alone are a nightmare!)

SimplyCee - February 21, 2007 03:31 AM (GMT)
Yes, I've had trouble sending labor riots through the mail, too. ;) Thanks for the help!

My tastes are very eclectic and I have a lot of favorites.
