We have some in our fridge. :o It has the 2111 digit on the lid and it's Great Value. It's almost empty though.
I know I'm weird putting peanut butter in the refrigerator. :P

DH called me about this earlier letting me know that both the opened and unopened jars had the numbers indicated. I told him we were probably fine on the open one since neither of us, the dogs or the bird have gotten sick. He was ready to throw it out. I told him I'll look into the new one when I get home.

Looks like I'm switching to Jif.

needmorezoloft - February 15, 2007 10:45 PM (GMT)
All 5 jars  of our Peter Pan have those #s.

From working in a factory and learning how to read the labels, more than likely the 2111 is the code for the "plant" it was made at. Like I can look at any Campbell's, Prego, Pace, etc. lid/code and tell you if we made it here in Paris, what shift (1,2,3) made it, what "line" it came off of, what day, what time, and who packed it. Then again I'm a nerd.

Mom is having me send in all the lids... doesn't mean we'll trash the pb, just cash in on the lids.

PepperVL - February 15, 2007 11:54 PM (GMT)
I'm glad I use Jif when I eat peanut butter.

As long as it's chunky I don't care what the brand is. Aside from that, you can't take Peter away from me!! :D

Danesnboxers - February 16, 2007 01:08 AM (GMT)
Thank goodness I'm a Jiff person. I eat peanut butter all the time.

CheriePie - February 16, 2007 01:34 AM (GMT)
:yuck: I don't eat that crap! Did you ever look at the ingredients?? Half the stuff in there is additives, preservatives, and artificial crap!!

Now if you want some real peanut butter, with only the real stuff in it, and without all that crap that's bad for you :whip:, try The Peanut Butter Company. :)

needmorezoloft - February 16, 2007 02:06 AM (GMT)
I just found out... that (at least around here) you can take them to ANY grociery store and exchange it (at least PP) for the cost off their shelf...

So, we're gonna take them back to Kroger (the most expensive store in town) to get more money... then buy more PP @ Wal-Mart (where we got it in the first place) :P

EllyMae58 - February 16, 2007 02:56 AM (GMT)
I use Jif. :P

cheesygiraffe - February 16, 2007 04:11 AM (GMT)
I don't eat much peanut butter but I've never liked Jif. I guess I'm not a choosy mom.

This idiot I work with... (who I hate btw) decided to go out and buy peterpan peanut butter.. he went to the store, saw the recalled jar on the shelf, bought it and ate some... IN HOPES HE GETS SICK SO HE CAN SUE

caseyw - February 16, 2007 05:28 PM (GMT)
I took our unopened jar of PP back to WalMart this morning and bought a jar of Jif. They had cleared out all the PP so only Jif, Skippy and Smuckers PB were left.

Cherie- I'm reading a book now called Can You Trust A Tomato In January? which talks about the history and what goes into making certain foods we eat. I'm not sure if I can ever eat Jell-O again.

A great reason to be a vegetarian!!! :D

Gelatin is also in gummy bears, Skittles, Mentos, most yogurts and lots of other unsuspecting foods (Green Giant glazed carrots and Smart One's Veggie Pizza for example).

That sounds like an interesting book. Though I might already know most of the info in it... though off the top of my head, I'm not aware of problems with tomatoes (beyond Kim Harrison's books ;) I have heard plenty about jello from some of my veggie friends. Funny but all of them are from CT. I find most people from my area in MA could care less!

I'm actually pretty well informed about ingredients, additives, and all that, and do my best to keep all those preservatives and artificial additives out of all the stuff that comes into this house. Of course, chocolate has some, and Milano cookies, but with a few exceptions, I try to eat only organic, all-natural foods.

I always read labels, which is why Mike doesn't let me do the weekly food shopping. Usually once every few months, we'll do an extended weekend food shopping where we both go and I get to scout out new brands, new types of foods to try, etc. But for the weekly restocking of things we know we use and like, he's in an out in 20 minutes, while I still take 2-3 hours! *sigh*

Another Peanut Butter Co. person! Have you tried their Dark Chocolate Dreams? I love that stuff! I also love the spicy one, and it makes a great funky sandwich/salad dressing mixed with tamari, lemon juice, and thinned with a little water! I love that we can buy it in the regular grocery store up here in the boondocks! :D

I prefer mix-it-yourself natural pb for plain and chunky though -- usually with a little extra salt. :P (Yes, I have like 4-5 different pb's going at all times. )

Oh gosh -- I'm the same way! I read everything and poke at each little piece of produce. It takes 2 hours at least -- and that's if I go when nobody else is at the store!

Yah....a local store carries this brand. :bananadance: I'm going to have to try some now.

Funny that the dark chocolate one has less fat than the smooth variety.

I've had to start reading labels because of Brian's health. I so need to get him off the sugar but he's just not cooperating. Big doofus. :bash:

Just a little hope for vegans (I was one for about 5 years) - Haribo bears (gummy bears from Germany) are totally vegan! Yummy!

No, we've never tried the Dark Chocolate dreams one, but I just mentioned it to Mike and we'll have to pick it up next time we're at Shaws or Whole Foods. So we'll have to try it next!! :D

Up where I live, we do our weekly shopping at Market Basket cuz it's cheaper than Shaws and Whole Foods, and though they carry some natural and organic stuff, and some stores are better than others, last time we needed peanut butter, they didn't have it yet. But the Tewksbury store has been adding all kinds of new things, like they have a sushi bar now with fresh sushi, so they might start carrying it the Peanut Butter Company peanut butter soon.

I didn't care for the spicy one as much. Like I couldn't get the two flavors to go together in my palette for some reason. Mike liked it though. I didn't think to try different things with it as you did though... For the everyday, we just go with their Smooth Operator. Boring, huh?

Heh, I'm glad I'm not alone anymore and found another label reading soul sista!

I've tried to explain to people why Mike does the weekly grocery shopping and they look at me like I'm strange--well, I am, but not with regards to this LOL--but for us, it's just more efficient this way. And I'm allowed to go shopping with him once every few months, and then we usually spend 2 or 3 times as much, but come home with all new kinds of foods, new ideas, new recipes, etc. So it works out good for us! :D I don't think our budget could afford me doing the grocery shopping every week!!

AceofHearts - February 17, 2007 04:41 PM (GMT)
Cheesy, I keep PB in the fridge also as it doesn't get used much around here

meshe - February 17, 2007 04:51 PM (GMT)
I'll have to go by the Kroger and check out the The PB Company offerings. It's the only store around here that carries it.

Danesnboxers - February 17, 2007 05:12 PM (GMT)
My sister's kids had been vomiting and diarrhea off and on really bad for a week. When this recall came out she checked their Peter Pan and guess what? yep, their's were 2 jars that were being recalled.

Breeni - February 18, 2007 12:20 AM (GMT)
We had three jars in the recall--one almost empty, one half empty, and one unopened one that I just bought a few days ago. No one's been sick, though, and my youngest practically lives on PB. Peter Pan is the brand of choice, of course.
