Title: So how much snow did you get?
Description: for you North Easterners

lizziwhizz - February 15, 2007 11:49 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't be surprised if we got well over a foot of snow. Shoveled once yesterday afternoon (school was cancelled) and then hubby and I went out again last night at about eight thirty to shovel again, and both times it was quite a chore! We have gale warnings this morning and the snow has drifted quite high in some places, which makes it hard to tell how much actually fell. We have a two-hour delay for school.

What did everyone else get?

SNOW???? SNOW????? It hasn't dropped below 30 degrees (celsius - mid 80s for you fahrenheit users) all week!!!

Couldn't resist sharing that particular piece of information with you, lizziwhizz! ;)

I'm in NE Pennsylvania and we got about a foot. My dad and I shoveled it off the driveway and the cars in two rounds last night, when it had finally about stopped. There was snow and sleet for probably 30 hours straight and we got more snow than we've gotten at one time since the "Blizzard of '96"...can't imagine how much it would have been if it hadn't changed over to sleet for most of Tuesday night! Apparently the roads are still a mess, so I'm going to stay in and enjoy (another) snow day. Some of the major interstate highways in the area were stopped and backed up since noon yesterday...and if those roads are still a mess, then I probably won't even make it out of my driveway...or even try to make it out, for that matter.

We didn't get too much...maybe three inches. Nevertheless, my boyfriend and I took yesterday off of work and didn't leave the house. We lost power this morning for a couple of hours but supposedly it is back on now.

needmorezoloft - February 15, 2007 02:53 PM (GMT)
We got next to nothing.. I saw a few flakes on the ground in spots on a few patches on roof tops, and my dad's car had a bit on it... but next to nothing really, I would have to scrape off his whole car to get about 2 good snowballs.

apolonia - February 15, 2007 03:02 PM (GMT)
We got about 5 inches, then it turned to rain, so it was all slushy and then it froze.

HoserLauren - February 15, 2007 03:46 PM (GMT)
We got about a foot as well.

Thankfully it was just snow - no rain or freezing rain.

Memphis is not the Northeast, but it's snowing here now and starting to stick since it's only 25 degrees F (I don't think there is anyway to do that little degrees sign from this keyboard!)

Don't see a snowy smilie or I would add one! user posted image

lots and I am happy ! It was a very romantic Valentine's Day with all the snow!

Kyrissaean - February 15, 2007 05:37 PM (GMT)
A lot! Close to 3 feet, but luckily it was the silty kind as opposed to the sticky kind (it was kinda cold out for the sticky kind), so it didn't take down any power lines or anything even with all the wind.

We've had the strangest weather. It wasn't snowy at all for Christmas, but of course most people still have their outside Christmas lights still up and frozen in place. So last night for our very snowy Valentine's Day, most of the houses on our little street turned their Christmas lights back on! It was very cute!

About 14-17 inches for us (northwest-ish Indiana). The university shut down for a day and a half because the road crews couldn't keep up with cleaning the roads and it was dangerous to travel. We're open today and the roads are mostly clear, but the snow plows just pushed the snow to the sides, so there are huge snow banks all along the roads. Parking on the streets, especially downtown, is impossible right now. (I had to cancel an organization meeting tonight because we were meeting at a restaurant downtown but now we'd have no place for everyone to park!)

About 6 inches here, maybe as high as 8 in some places where it drifted.

I was surprised to see that Joy had even less than us out in Worcester (which is kinda central to western MA). Usually western MA gets hit a lot harder than those of us closer to Boston and the coast. But as expected, Ap's in Salem and it was close to what it was here in Wilmington.

In the city proper, it switched over to rain even earlier so probably like Worcester, Boston might've been closer to 3 or 4 inches when all was said and done.

That doesn't stop it from still being freakin' cold here though!! user posted image

We got over a foot here (Eastern NY right on the border to CT). The farm crew had to go around with tractors and dig us all out. My gate is frozen shut, so I've been climbing over the fence instead and lifting my foster puppy over (luckily he's only 30 pounds or so).

so my plow guy didn't come this morning before I had to leave for work a little before nine  so I had to muscle and blast my new car through the snow and out the end of the driveway :angry2:
Then when he did come, for some reason he didn't plow all the way up to the garage doors like he usually does, so I had to go shovel out my husband's garage door so he'll be able to get into it tonight!
AND I went down to try to shovel out the mailbox (didn't get any mail today because the snow is piled too far into the road) and couldn't figure out why my mailbox looked wrong...well, I guess the road crew plow must have banged into it; the mailbox came loose from the support under it and slid back ten inches and canted to the left. I put it back in it's place but it was screwed on and the screws need to be reattached. So I figured, why shovel? If my mailbox isn't even attached to it's stand. Don't even know what I'm gonna do about that one.

It couldn't have been any more than a few inches here... but as always, turns into a thick sheet of ice everywhere. :yuck: LOL fell today on the ice... never fun, but I've fell too many times in public to care anymore.

Enough snow that my DH is finally considering a snow blower :bananadance:

I've already discussed my disappearing mailbox in the SS swap. :P I did 3 photos at various parts of the day, took another photo today and it is officially under the snow with only the 4x4 post showing.

Seems everyone is just digging into the bank and leaving a little cubby the mail man can reach into to open the door.

I could be wrong about how much we got...I'm horrible at estimating time, distance, size, etc! The snow only came up to the bottom of my hubcaps...however much that is!

I was surprised that we didn't get much either. I said that if it was going to snow, it had better be a lot...enough to shut down the office at least. It was a disappointing amount, but I ended up taking the day off anyway. There was no way that I was driving in to Boston in that!

Tribefan - February 17, 2007 01:03 PM (GMT)
15 inches here!

karendawn - February 17, 2007 02:00 PM (GMT)
Argh. It's snowing again. I wonder how much this will add. Gosh, I'm not going to be able to drive my car for quite a while. :(

Ours stopped for now, :D it has been several hours of work daily this past week to stay ahead. There was no waiting for it to let up to clear it away this past week it seemed to be just continuous.

Forcast for today says

Wind, blowing and drifting snow, along with lake effect and low wind chill temperatures will be with us today in Central New York. In fact, snow will fall heavy at times through midday. Expect another 4-9" of snow.

Well that's it... the post that marks where the mailbox is --will be a goner LOL!!!

Oh Lizz here they put up the markers for the plows to follow so they don't clip our mailboxes, but if it is the same there as here, they were long buried under the banks.

Don't mess with the incoming mail...you wouldn't like it when a reader gets angry
