Title: Shelfari - heard of it? used it?
Ri - February 14, 2007 12:15 AM (GMT)
http://www.shelfari.com/My MIL was asking me about this website. I'd never heard of it, but said that I would ask my bookie friends about it. Anyone ever used it?

Sounds interesting. Never heard of it though. I like the name. ;)

nope, never heard of it. Does look interesting though.

This looks like a great site.. thanks for sharing!
fantasy221 - February 14, 2007 03:38 AM (GMT)
neat idea. If I had time to keep track of another thing I'd consider signing up for it.
CheriePie - February 14, 2007 04:03 AM (GMT)
It does look neat! Like fantasy said though, I'm sure I couldn't keep up with another site. As it is now, when I finish a book, I track it and put my review in my local Book Collector software, on the BookCrossing journal page, in my blog, at 43things and AllConsuming (though those are linked which makes it easier), and at LibraryThing.
I almost thought of dropping the updates to LibraryThing, but since more and more sites seem to be getting integrated with that, and because I haven't been able to get AllConsuming's RSS code to appear right on my blog page (the currently reading sidebar), I figured I'd stay with that for now too...
Anyhoo, if anyone signs up, I'll be curious to look at their shelf so post here and let us know... :D
Thanks for bringing it to our attention Momma  Ri!!

I haven't signed up for it either. It seemed to overlap somewhat what I already do on here and BC, and I really don't need to add on another internet page to update! I would also be very curious to see an Obsessor (or whatever we are called now) page!

I have an account there but haven't added a lot of books to it. Same user name as here. I already had all my PC on LibraryThing when I heard about Shelfari so didn't really need another - but of course I had to try it out!

Well, I ended up signing up for a shelf. My username is purplepeace since you have to have at least 3 letters in your name and I use that name at several other sites.

I had heard of it before (somewhere) but don't know anyone using it (other than you, Ri - or LOL, should we call you purplepeace now?!)

Seriously, I am so addicted to creating my shelf over at shelfari! I've been adding BC books that I've read in the past couple years. It is becoming an obsession!
cowgirl-up - June 7, 2007 01:48 PM (GMT)
I posted a new topic, but Cherie pointed me to this one. I just joined Shelfari and I'm addicted, too! My name over there is the same as here. I'm not going to catalog all the books I have on my BC shelf, but I'm going to do books I've read and maybe my PC. I don't really need another thing to keep track of, but it looks like fun!

Oh why did I click the link....
msjoanna - June 7, 2007 05:34 PM (GMT)
The concept seems pretty much the same as LibraryThing, no?
Since I've already loaded all my stuff into LibraryThing, I'll probably stick with that...
camis - June 8, 2007 12:57 PM (GMT)
I'm trying to build my shelf, but I'm not finding the search facility very good so it is taking a long while!
Ri - June 8, 2007 01:24 PM (GMT)
I had big plans for my shelf to only reflect the things I had read and reviewed, but then I got behind...
irenic - June 10, 2007 11:28 PM (GMT)
Im on there too, under irenic
I love it because unlike LibraryThing there is no book limit.
(Doesn't like the Week 15 saying)

Breeni invited me to join awhile ago but I've never gotten around to it, maybe it's time to investigate.

Damn all you enablers! :whip:
This thread keeps popping up... and up... and up! So I finally had to go sign up for an account (I'm CheriePie over there too). Now to see what all the fuss is about! :P

Has anyone figured out how you import your LibraryThing shelf? It says that you can on the Add Books page, but then only gives examples of importing from a text file, which makes me think maybe I need to export my LT shelf to a text file first and then import it?
Anyway, I sent a message to them asking how to do it (once LT is back up of course), but I was curious if anyone here had managed to do it themselves already. Maybe it's as simple as putting the URL to my LT library page in that text box (instead of a text file) and then clicking Import. Of course, I haven't been able to test this theory until LT is back up...
CheriePie - June 14, 2007 05:06 AM (GMT)
Okay, I managed to import my LibraryThing library into Shelfari. Though oddly it only imported 847 of my 929 books. I didn't take the time to go through and figure out which ones it missed. There could've been a few dupes in there on purpose, but I doubt it was more than 20 or 30 if that...
I'm not too concerned though... if it's something I need later down the road, I'll find out then.
So by now, I think I found and added most of y'all as friends. And I tried to look at how a few of you were treating your "Reading List". I was trying to decide whether to keep it only for the books I'm currently reading, which normally isn't more than 3 at a time. One regular novel, an anthology which I'll read from in between the full length ones, and a non-fiction Pagan or Witchy book.
If I treat the "Reading List" that way, then what of all the books that I've already read? I have a lot of these pulled in from LT that I have marked with an "@released" tag. So I'm trying to decide whether to just leave them as is on my shelf, or move them to my Reading List.
