Title: LOST
Description: discussion
lizziwhizz - February 8, 2007 11:56 AM (GMT)
All right, so we only waited like six years on hiatus there! While I enjoyed the episode, I didn't feel like it packed the punch of previous episodes.
I'm also very peeved about the 10pm time slot. :whip: One of my unofficial New Year's resolutions has been to sleep better, and I've been going to bed at ten pretty much every night this year (except weekends of course!), and given up any television shows that come on later than that. Well, LOST, you may lose me!
I'm going to watch next week and if I'm not thrilled, I may say goodbye to my previously favorite show on television.
I did like the interesting foil of Juliet's character; how she was so meek before, and has become one mean mother of a leader/decision maker. and when her ex-husband got hit by the bus!? I should have been so flabbergasted, but I saw it coming a mile away. It was an interesting plot twist, but points off for being obvious.
So Alex is Ben's daughter? Danielle (crazy french lady) told us Alex was her kid, I thought, and Danielle like crash landed on the island...eight years ago? more? can't remember. oh...was it 16 years ago? maybe that's how old Alex is, so Danielle was impregnated after she got to the island. I feel like storylines are being dropped, but I suppose they'll come full circle eventually.

whoops i thought i was in chitchat, that's where i should have posted this...
karendawn - February 8, 2007 12:17 PM (GMT)
I'm a bit peeved about the time as well. Since Thursday is one of my long days, I get started quite early (waking up at 5am), so staying up until 11 pm to watch a TV show is a bit much. I feel so tired this morning!
I liked seeing a bit more about Juliet because she's really the only one of the Others that intrigues me. I'm starting to see connections between her research and why the Others would have been so interested in Claire and her baby - I just don't know why exactly that would be quite yet.
I'm wondering if Alex has been told that Ben is her father but he's really not - that the baby was taken from Danielle and raised as Ben's own. If I remember right, I think Danielle was pregnant before the island, but I can't remember for sure.
I like Kate and Jack and Sawyer, but I miss the other people, especially Charlie. It looks like we'll get to see them again the next episode, but I feel that it's become the Kate/Jack/Sawyer show instead of the ensemble show that it was during the first season, which I enjoyed so much more.
EllyMae58 - February 8, 2007 01:57 PM (GMT)
I thought that was a boring episode. *yawn* Hopefully, it's going to pick up.
I hate the new time slot, too. I get up at 4:30 every day, so I'm usually in bed between 9 and 10, sometimes earlier. The only reason I was able to stay up last night is 'cause I went home early yesterday with a migraine and slept all afternoon.
I think Lost will lose a lot of viewers, and/or lose viewers that will watch it when the episode airs. I have DVR, so more often than not I won't see the episode until Thursday after work. There are so many people here at work that watch the show, we started a weekly "meeting" to get together and discuss it. However, we're thinking of moving it to Fridays instead, so those that aren't able to stay up and watch it in it's new 10 p.m. time slot have a chance to watch it on Thursday before we talk all about it! :P
caseyw - February 8, 2007 02:39 PM (GMT)
They had already started to lose my interest before they went on the extended hiatus. I tried to watch the catch up show at 8, but that couldn't even hold my attention so I went to bed and read my book instead.
I didn't realize they were moving the show to a later time slot permanently. I thought it was just because they were doing their usual review episode before hand. I too like to be in bed between 9 & 10. Oh well, I watch too much tv anyway so it won't kill me to drop a show.
HoserLauren - February 8, 2007 03:42 PM (GMT)
I have class Wednesday nights so I missed it
Lizabeth86 - February 8, 2007 04:06 PM (GMT)
I didn't read too much here since I taped it last night and haven't watched it yet but here are some of my limited thoughts at the moment.
I wasn't happy with the few eposides they did this past fall and was already thinking I may have to drop LOST from the shows I currently watch. Than finding out that they changed the time slot makes that decision even more possible. I will have to see how the next few eposides pan out and decide if its worth investing any more time into it. Unfortuately there is a good chance they will lose me as a viewer.

Some of the things I discussed with my co-workers this morning.
FYI: Mittelos is an anagram for LOST TIME. Whether that is the anagram they meant, I guess we'll find out in time.
Interesting that Karl was in room number 23. Also, Hanso and the DeGroots were shown in the images he was watching.
Mittelos already has a website up...Juliet and Ethan are listed as executives.
Mittelos is very similar to Mittelwerk, dontcha think?
I found it interesting that Juliet saw Ethan in the hallway of the condo? apartment? wherever it was that her sister was at in the beginning of the episode (although it looked like a completely different place later on) and later her sister was all gung ho about Juliet taking the job with the company that Ethan worked for.
Personally, I think this whole twist on Juliet's research and the thing with the Others stealing the babies and kids makes Sun's pregnancy mighty suspicious...

Two questions on your comments.
Are we supposed to know more about Karl? I know that Sawyer knew his name, but I can't remember why. Perhaps I should go back and read through old episode summaries.
And speaking of forgetting - until you mentioned it, Sun's pregnancy has slipped my mind. Gee, that's what happens when they don't show other characters for long periods of time.
Or maybe that just means that my memory is getting really bad.
And I'm still feeling tired today. I'm thinking that I'm not going to be able to stay up to watch it again. I guess I'll try to download it and watch it on my computer.

Wow...I'm constantly in awe of people who can keep track of the numbers/hints or whatever they throw into each eposide. I can never bother to remember. I watch it more for the drama/relationships. I am a Jate fan...I think that Matthew Fox is totally hot...and even though they tried to make Juliet more human by showing her back story, I still cannot like her. I hope the writers don't go over board with the Jack/Juliet relationship...
And an interesting point a person on another forum brought up. Can they technically still be considered lost? We know that there's this group they call "the others" living not too far from where the plane crashed. We know that these others knows exactly where they are and have contact with the outside world. So why don't our survivors find some way to take control of the situation, storm the other's villages or something and force them to take them back to civilization? From the way the story has developed, if that point is not address then the whole show's just kind of pointless...

I think Karl was in the cage across from Sawyer at first. Remember Kate didn't get brought there until a while after (the whole putting on a dress, what did they make you do, etc, thing), and Karl talk to Sawyer and tell him not to push the button or something? And then they came and dragged him out of the cage and hauled him off, and brought Kate in.
I think.
lizziwhizz - February 8, 2007 09:57 PM (GMT)
Also, maybe I'll just start downloading the episode the next day from abc for free. If enough of us do that, it should clue them in that we're not watching it at 10 pm!

Karl used to be in a cage like Sawyer..they tried to escape together, but got caught. Then they put Sawyer back in the cage and took Karl away.
lizziwhizz - February 8, 2007 10:27 PM (GMT)
ok also. ;) we didn't see them this episode but back with the main bunch, all of a sudden two new characters showed up hanging out with sayid and I think they were going to be involved in heading out for rescue or whatever it all was. anyway, the two characters look just like kate and sawyer. so i have been waiting to see in what obvious way those two were going to be involved in helping kate and sawyer escape by taking their place or something. and now i'm wondering if they were just a red herring.
HoserLauren - February 9, 2007 11:05 PM (GMT)
Just downloaded and watched.
Any ideas on who the woman with the 70 year old looking uterous is (and was really 27)? Surely they wouldn't stick that fact in there if it didn't have something to do with one of the characters.

If you don't do the Lost Experience (the online "game) you won't know.
Mittelwerk is a guy that works (worked) for the Hanso Corporation.
If you don't know Hanso, I won't explain, 'cause it will just lead to more stuff. Use
Lostpedia for information.
Oh, and if anyone accesses the Mittelos website, and wants the login info, let me know.
HoserLauren - February 10, 2007 04:15 AM (GMT)
No, I know what Hanso is.
Thanks for the link.
Or maybe I should be :whip: ing you because I'll probably be on this site looking at things for a long time

Us lucky Canadians get Lost at 8, and today was a snow day so I could actually stay at home and watch! :bananadance:
But the episode made me sad.
They better not be doing what they basically implied was going to happen.
I love Charlie!!
lizziwhizz - February 15, 2007 11:30 AM (GMT)
I liked the episode, except that because the characters/storylines are so much more spread out now, I feel like it's almost a whole different show when one week we're with Jack & co doing surgery and such, and the next week it's back to life on the beach, exploring the weirder results of the island. It can be frustrating because I feel like I lose track of what's going on, and the title of the show refers to me!
That said, I did like the episode. I needed a break from the high stress, high drama of Kate/Sawyer/Jack. Liked the little twisty at the ending where we find out Desmond has been saving Charlie all this time.
When he was "back" after the hatch blew up, and he was convincing his physicist friend that he had traveled in time, he "remembered" the soccer game, etc. Then it didn't come true. Then the lady told him he couldn't change anything, because it would just happen differently. Then he went back to the pub and saw the soccer game, and realized he was remembering the wrong night. At this point, he says that he can change it--why did seeing the soccer game as he remembered it make him believe he could change things? Of course he did--he told the bartender to duck and then got hit himself hit and ended up back at the island where he left off. SO...does this imply that when he tries to change things he gets "punished"?
karendawn - February 15, 2007 12:49 PM (GMT)
I didn't stay up to watch it (after being so tired last Thursday after staying up), so I'm going to download it and watch later. So I have to make sure to stay out of this thread until then!!
EllyMae58 - February 15, 2007 02:24 PM (GMT)
I also thought the Charlie twist was surprising. I love him too, and I hope it doesn't happen. :(
And in the previews for next week's episode, they showed that blonde actress that was in Mommie Dearest. She creeps me out.
kislany - February 16, 2007 07:47 PM (GMT)
I loved this last episode, and the twist on Charlie made my hair stand up on my arms... :o
lizziwhizz - February 22, 2007 02:44 PM (GMT)
i'm getting so sick of the Others and their little society. last week's episode was more true to the original theme, and now we're right back to stupid jack. this is the last time i stay up to watch; from now on i'm downloading it the next day (or just watching it the next week at nine, since so far they seem to be airing the previous week's episode.)
also didn't the ads say something about our biggest questions being answered? were there any answers in this episode? the closest I can determine is that Kate asked whats-his-name why they take the children, etc, and he says to give them a better life. that's no answer!!!! :whip:

I swear, everytime it says we're supposed to get answers, we get more questions.
What were all those people outside Jack's cage there to watch?????? :bash:
I think I will stop staying up to watch it too. I DVR it anyway, so I may just start watching it the next day. My co-workers that I discuss the show with haven't even been staying up!
HoserLauren - February 22, 2007 03:33 PM (GMT)
I said the same thing when I was watching with my boyfriend. This episode was supposed to answer three questions. It answered NOTHING!!!!!
I heard that last week's episode had the lowest number of viewers from any Lost show. I wouldn't be surprised if it went down again.
I suppose a question "answered" is what happened to some of the people from the plane that were taken by the others. The 2 kids and the flight attendant were there, and surprisingly enough not in captivity.
And it was no answer that the others live on the main island. Remember when the plane went down (during Juliette's book club) and Ben told one of the guys to go to the site of the plane crash right away? They must have been on the island then.
AceofHearts - February 22, 2007 10:23 PM (GMT)
I'm sorry I just didn't get any of it last night. We keep on getting more and more characters and this on an island with a plane crash :o . What was with Jack and what was all the marking about?
lizziwhizz - March 2, 2007 12:45 AM (GMT)
just got finished watching last night's episode (downloaded it from abc.com) and once again, I have to say how much better I like it when we're back to the old school themes! Hurley and his curse, etc--and I love how at any given time on this island, you can run for five minutes into the jungle and find something that you have totally never noticed before--like a car!
needmorezoloft - March 2, 2007 09:22 PM (GMT)
*keeps eyes shut tight, trying not to read any possible spoilers*
I've been dying to get into this thread... I am a Lost junkie... however because of the timeslot, I don't get to watch it when it comes on... I watch Medium with my mom. So, I tape all the shows... only that means I'm behind. Right now I've only missed this weeks. So hopefully I can watch it this weekend and start chattin' with y'all..
lizziwhizz - March 9, 2007 12:16 AM (GMT)
so I just downloaded last night's episode. I actually feel like this did not make any sense. at all. I didn't see how the flashbacks related to the present situation. I think I might actually have been bored, and that disappoints me. I'm gonna download this week's episode of Heroes that I missed and be much happier, I think.
AceofHearts - March 9, 2007 02:11 AM (GMT)
LOST is losing me. Yet another new chracter introduced. I swear that island has a lot of people

That's the way I felt too. My co-workers kept saying it was such a good episode, and I was like huh??? Did I see the same episode they did? Another character (which that island SO does not need), and we didn't even get to see Hurley kick Sawyer's butt at ping-pong. No fair!
Heroes is WAY better.
kislany - March 11, 2007 08:27 AM (GMT)
I think it was a good tie-in episode, might have answered a few questions - and we found another hatch (was wondering where the last hatch was!). But it was pretty predictable, I knew what would happen (in the end, but don't want to give spoilers away) quite a long time before it actually happened, so was no surprise there.
Pity that they didn't show the ping-pong game between Hurley and Sawyer.
HoserLauren - March 11, 2007 10:21 PM (GMT)
I just got caught up and I thought it was a good episode too!
Although I had completely forgotten about the man that had appeared in the camera until they showed it on the "previously on Lost" part. I do wish they would wrap some stuff up before going on with new stuff. There's a point where my brain is over-saturated!!
But all in all a good episode! Too bad we don't get to learn about Ms. Klugh. She was the one that was taking care of Walt, wasn't she?
That story line was completely dropped when those 2 left.
What was Walt's special power?
Ugh. As much as I love Lost there's just too much unanswered right now.

I ended up missing the first half this past week cause I lost track of time and was talking to someone on the computer. :bash:
