Title: St. Patty's Day Exchange?
wss4 - February 7, 2007 12:42 AM (GMT)
Not sure if anyone was planning to organize one this year or not, but since it is not long away thought that I would ask.
ramson - February 7, 2007 03:04 AM (GMT)
I was wondering the same thing myself earlier today. No mention of it has been made and its getting awfully close.
appaloosatb - February 7, 2007 03:11 AM (GMT)
I'd be interested...
camis - February 7, 2007 08:26 AM (GMT)
Depends if we are doing Easter/ Spring Fling? Personally I'd probably like a bit more of a gap before another exchange due to airmail costs!

Maybe that would be a better option.
nursiegirl42 - February 7, 2007 09:18 PM (GMT)
Easter is only 2 months and 1 day away.. I would opt for doing the Easter one!
wss4 - February 7, 2007 09:40 PM (GMT)
Yep I agree. If we are doing an Easter/Spring one a little break would be great-- although with it only being 2 months away Surface packages would have to be mailed soon anyways.

LOL I was afraid someone was going to suggest that.
I suppose I could attempt it. I have to work tomorrow but I will try to work something out by Monday if no one else wants to volunteer.

No - St Patricks Day is March 17th. Spring Fling is normally the first Monday in May. Easter is sometime in between

A spring one would be fun. I missed out on joining the Valentines *and* the birthday exchanges, and dammit, I wanna send stuff to someone!

I'll vote for Easter/Spring Fling! That will give more people some time to sign up and time to shop! That said, sign me up!
Thanks for volunteering wss4!

Yes the topic's title is St Patrick’s Day Exchange but wss4 agreed it would be too soon with Spring Fling and has 'offered' to organize Spring Exchange ... at least that is how I understood her reply
chronicbooker3 - February 8, 2007 08:53 PM (GMT)
Sign me up as well
CheriePie - February 8, 2007 09:36 PM (GMT)
Okay, if that's the case, sign me up for the Spring Fling! So if this is the signup thread for that, should we change the subject, or is there gonna be a different signup thread Wendy?

I will post a new thread, hopefully by Monday.
Nursie I will be more than happy to take you up on your offer to help.
ZZZ I think maybe that I was 'offered' up. ;) :P
I think that if we aim for a Spring Fling on May 1st that will give time for shopping and surface mail, so that sounds good to me. I will post a sign up thread by Monday.

I missed out, too! Since this is a spring exchange, what kinds of things do people usually send?
I'm still new to this, sorry for all the (possibly dumb) questions.

Technically in the Exchanges all that you are 'required' to send is one wish list book from your partners wish list. But we have some very generous members here who like to make the packages more interesting by adding extras. It can be theme related or something that your partner has listed on their Favorites post or whatever you choose to send. No one expects more than the one wish list book so any extras are always a nice surprise.
I like to pick up things like bookmarks, notepads, pens, etc when I find cute ones to add to exchange packages. I also like to send candies and such especially if my partner is overseas as they don't have access to the same stuff that we do here in the US. But really it is up to you. Anything you want to send is fine.

yeah, what wss4 said. And to add: I (almost) never send anything related with theme since we don’t celebrate some of those festivals such is Halloween or Valentines. I'm trying to send something from my corner of the world.
But indeed only rule is one wish list book.
Check opening thread for Valentines Exchange next week; it might give you some better picture/idea :)

We've had several people join since it started. At the end of January she took a bunch of new people... I was under the impression that she still would though it could take a bit to get partners assigned, depending on how many interested people she has, but I guess I could be wrong.
Everyone started out with two partners, and then as people joined they were assigned one (people volunteered to take an extra)... so everyone has between 1 and 3 and they get from however many they'll send out to.
You just send your partner(s) a present for their birthday... doesn't have to be a book, though it can be if you want. Just soemthing you think they'd like.
Kyrissaean - February 9, 2007 04:07 AM (GMT)
If we're doing the early May Spring Fling one again, I want to sign up! :D
I'm feeling too disorganized to do anything sooner though. :P
CheriePie - February 9, 2007 04:30 AM (GMT)
I particularly like the May 1st idea because we're always celebrating Christian holidays, so it'll be good for us Pagans and heathens :P to celebrate a Pagan holiday instead. Whether we call it Beltane, May Day, or whatnot... me likee!! :bounce:

It's also perfectly spaced exactly 6 months from Halloween (well, 1 day off  ), which as far as exchanges go keeps things spaced very nicely!
And then if you consider that Valentine's Day and Happiness Day are also almost exactly 6 months apart (6 days off in that case), and set almost exactly 3 months off kilter from the other two....
We've managed to set up 4 exchanges that happen to be spaced almost perfectly every 1/4 of the year! :D No wonder those are the ones that tend to "feel" like they land at a good time for another exchange!
2 / 14 (Valentine's)
5 / 1 (Spring Fling)
8 / 8 (Happiness Day)
10/31 (Halloween)

actually I had to close sign ups around the end of January. I found that as new people wanted to sign up, I'd put a call out for new members/volunteers for extras, and wait a week, and assign all the partners, and then the next day someone else would want to sign up, and I'd have to start again. plus the later it gets, the more likely it is that either the new sign-up or the current member volunteering to have an extra partner would have already had their birthday, which added pressure to senders. so the birthday exchange is closed for this year I'm afraid ;)
