Title: Registering 13 digit isbns on BC
fantasy221 - February 4, 2007 07:51 PM (GMT)
I just received my first book that only has a 13 digit isbn instead of having both the 13- and 10-digit version. But when I go to register it on BC, the book isn't recognized. Does anyone know what to do about this? Or should I just put this book off to the side until we get word that BC can handle the new isbns?

That just happened to me. I looked it up on amazon, which listed the 10-digit ISBN and then used that to register the book.

There's also a number of converters available on the web for converting the 13-digit ISBN to a 10-digit. I just googled "convert 13 digit ISBN" and found a bunch. But I like Karen's idea of just getting it from Amazon too. :D

Yeah I knew there were converters out there, that just seems like more work than I feel like doing. I do like Karen's idea :)

I've been noticing more and more books like this... I've been doing it Karen's way and going to Amazon though. It's getting REALLY annoying though. <_<

I emailed BookCrossing in December to ask what their plans were for handling the conversion and I got an email back that said as soon as Amazon.com can handle 13-digit ISBNs, BookCrossing would automatically be able to handle them.
The wierd thing is that you can type the 13-digit ISBNs into Amazon and it handles them fine but BookCrossing doens't. :(

Actually Sand (and anyone else who uses Book Collector software), whenever I get new books, the first thing I do is use my CueCat to scan them into Book Collecter, and that also automatically converts everything to the 10-digit ISBN. :D
