Title: The Bookrelay Virtual Book Club
Description: Guidelines and Information

MissyZ - January 7, 2006 11:51 PM (GMT)
:bananadance: The list of nominees is assembled and I'll be posting it up in a sec for everyone to have a look at before I unlock it for voting tomorrow...

Before we start, I just wanted to make a few things clear:

1) This is not a 'closed door' book group. ie. The group is not set a set number of people - you can join or leave as you wish.

2) You can choose whether or not to read the set book for the month and join in the discussion. Obviously it makes it more interesting the more people who read and discuss it though...

3) The book will be nominated by Relayers and voted in by Relayers every other month, with *hopefully* enough time for everyone to obtain and read a copy before the discussion thread is started.

4) Books that are not successful in getting chosen may be re-nominated for future Book Club choices

5) This is supposed to be fun and I'd prefer to run it more as a discussion about the book than as a series of questions, although I may throw in a few questions to get people thinking. The discussion thread will be posted at the start of each month's read.

6) HAVE FUN READING! You may find yourself enjoying books that you would never have thought to read by yourself!

The nominated books for February can be found HERE

I'll unlock the thread for voting tomorrow!

zzz - January 8, 2006 12:37 AM (GMT)
Should we reveal our votes or should we shut our mouths and wait to see the winner?

ZmrzlinaToo - January 8, 2006 12:48 AM (GMT)
Zoe! You are such a tease! Post the poll tonight and not open the thread until tomorrow! Oh my goodness. MissyZ should be MistressZ!

Ixion - January 8, 2006 12:51 AM (GMT)
I can't vote?! WHY are you doing this to me?!?! Why tease me so!!

Bad Girl!! :whip:

 - I got that title during the erotica swap! :D

And yes, total tease - thought I'd give you all some time to think over the books offered and about who nominated what. :D

Ya love me really!

Might open it in a bit if you ask me Veeeery nicely...

Xeyra - January 8, 2006 01:23 AM (GMT)
Of the nominated books I have read one and have none other than that one, which isn't with me anymore! :o Oh dear.

Ixion - January 8, 2006 01:27 AM (GMT)
I know which one I'm going to vote for already. And it won't be my own. I have 1 of those on Mt TBR and I've been dying to get to it... this would be a great way to encourage that...

zzz - January 8, 2006 01:33 AM (GMT)
Ok I only have my nominees and +1 which I'm finishing (it's fabulous) so it will be easy to decide which one I'm going to vote
However if some third book wins I'm in deep trouble <_<

There should be enough time to hopefully get hold of a copy...

depending on the book, I might consider buying one...

ZmrzlinaToo - January 8, 2006 01:47 AM (GMT)
Again....no worrying about not being able to get a book! I have it under control :)

MissyZ - January 8, 2006 02:07 AM (GMT)
Okay, Missy mucked up...

We'll have to do this poll the old fashioned way because the forums only let me have 15 lines and we've got 17...

I'll post the synopses up again and if everyone could list their top two books I'd appreciate it...

Okay, Missy mucked up...

No. Mucked up is too harsh. I think the poll software on Relay allows for more choices, probably because CR has the paid version of the software.

Are you always up this late, MissyZ? It is the wee hours over there in UK.

MissyZ - January 8, 2006 02:15 AM (GMT)
books are now HERE

it's about 2.15 am - about usual for me although I've not been getting to sleep until around 4am recently - I blame the books!

I'll be headed for bed shortly.

cheesygiraffe - January 8, 2006 02:26 AM (GMT)
Thank you Zoe. :) I was beginning to think you didn't get my PM with my nominations. And like Zmr said you didn't muck it up the forum did. ;)

MissyZ - January 8, 2006 02:30 AM (GMT)
Now you all gotta go vote!

and I gotta go bed! :D

I expect to see some votes there when I wake up (remember, I want your top 2 - that should give some better results), plus some guesses as to who nominated what!

SandDanz - January 8, 2006 03:21 AM (GMT)
Am I too late to join in on this? I'd like to give it a try... of course, if it gets too out of hand along with all my other reading, I might have to drop out. I'll go vote on my 2 choices either way now.

giz-angel - January 8, 2006 09:36 AM (GMT)
I wanna join! Me please me please!

MissyZ - January 8, 2006 11:24 AM (GMT)
Yip yip!
The more the merrier!

Go get voting on a book if you've not already! :D

MissyZ - January 8, 2006 12:02 PM (GMT)
Hmm...

Would it complicate things too much if we had the choice of reading 2 books?

Basically, the top two voted books are the choices and then people can read either one or both of them in the 2 months between book polls, and I'll set up a discussion thread for each book.

Might make it easier for those who don't have easy access to one of the books?

Great idea! I agree.

BTW when you'll close the pool? I mean we'll have three weeks to (find and) read February book.

MissyZ - January 8, 2006 12:58 PM (GMT)
I'll give it to the end of today - that should be enough time for people to vote. :)

I like that idea! :) I'm sure that if there is just one choice there will be times where some of us have already read the books as well.

ETA: BTW, since I can't get to the original thread for this... how long do we have to read the book and is it every month or every other?

MissyZ - January 8, 2006 03:42 PM (GMT)
every other month, so we'll have 2 books to read on a bimonthly basis. And I'll point out again, that there is no obligation to read both or either of them (although the more people that do will mean it will be a better discussion).

It's getting quite evident which two will be going forward this time. I've read one of them though, so will probably just focus on the other one this time.

Antheras - January 8, 2006 06:06 PM (GMT)
Count me in!

Of the choices, I've read one and have one in Mt. TBR.
