Title: book sale bag day

oi-reader - August 1, 2008 12:25 AM (GMT)
It's that time again, 2 count them...2 book sales are having bag day sales this Saturday here in town. :bananadance: :bananadance: All I can stuff in a bag for $5 :D Note, I use canvas bags and used to train grocery baggers...need I say more??

Is anyone looking for a specific book, perhaps an older one or one to complete a series? One sale is a Friend of the Library Sale and a lot of books there are former library books, the other is for Planned Pethood and I've never been to their sale before but heard it is good also. Both are very good causes IMHO. At the last FOL sale I went to I found a few brand new copies of best selling trade sized paperbacks as well as several cozies barely read. They have a large selection of non fiction as well. Last time I packed about 25 books in each bag.

If there is something you would like me to look for please let me know by Saturday morning. I'm not promising I'll find it but there is a good chance that between the two I just might. I'm open to trade for postage, wishlist books, bookmooch or frugal reader points....or perhaps just a rabck

You are so lucky!! Around here we have one Friends of the Library book sale a year, and that is it!!

I do have a couple of series of older books that I have not been able to find on the swap sites. If by chance you were to run across any of them and pick them up, I would gladly trade, pay postage, whatever for them.

One is an older Sci-fi series by Michael Elder. I have read the first in the series and have the second on my TBR shelf, but there are three more.

3. Down to Earth (1973)
4. The Seeds of Frenzy (1974)
5. The Island of the Dead (1975)

Another set is the earlier Borderland books. I am currently reading one of three that I have later in the set, but would love to read the earlier ones as well. They are anthologies edited by Terri Windling --

Borderland
Bordertown
Life on the Border
The Essential Bordertown: A Traveller's Guide to the Edge of Faerie

Thanks for the offer, even if you don't happen across any.

I've been looking for a copy of Oddkins by Dean Koontz forever. It's a larger sized book, but filled with illustrations.

Or, anything newer by Joyce Carol Oates--Missing Mom or My Sister, My Love or The Gravedigger's Daughter.

Or, any of those fairy tale series books edited by Terri Windling/Ellen Daitlow. They have names like Black Swan, White Raven or Ruby Slippers, Golden Tears. Any of these would be greatly appreciated.

If you would find these, I would probably try and do a backflip, or at least convince myself I could do one. Let me know if you find anything. I can pay for postage and even probably find something to trade with you.

Thanks for the offer.

I'm pretty sure this is a real long-shot, but I'm on the hunt for a copy of Small Houses (Great Houses) by the Fine Homebuilding Editors, which I believe is out of print (and it's sequel, More Small Houses (Great Houses)). In fact, I have a deep and abiding interest in any illustrated (preferably with floorplan/blueprints as well) books about building smaller, more energy efficient, more earth-friendly type houses (including Cob Houses and Rammed Earth, etc)... but specifically the above books. If either of those turn up in your hunting, I would be exceptionally thankful!

ok, I've got a small list :) Tote bags ready, trunk of car cleaned out, walking shoes on.... :giggle:

No promises, but who knows? Anyone who's been to their local FOL sales knows there's often treasues hidden amongst the stacks

Well, although I did manage to get 3 bags full I was not able to find what anyone was looking for :( There is a newer Joyce Carol Oates but til my SO leaves for work tonight and I can smuggle them all in the house I can't remember the title  I'll pm the title to you tomorrow Gotham. Neither had much in the way of fiction this time around :(

Don't give up hope just yet ladies...I'm pretty resourceful and a lot of local charity organizations have book sales this time of year through the end of October. I rarely miss one

As for now, I'm pooped! Hopefully better luck next time

I have to do that, too. If he spots me, The GateKeeper shakes his head and clucks his tongue, and I invariably get another lecture on how I need to buy more bookshelves or get rid of more books. I tell him I'm working on it!
Thanks for taking the time to look for all these books for us, Oi-Reader. I hope you find lots of wonderful books for yourself, regardless of whether you manage to find any of the books we're looking for.
