Title: Just how high IS your Mt TBR?

freelunch - January 31, 2007 02:21 AM (GMT)
I only have a small portion of my books registered at BookCrossing, but they're all listed at LibraryThing.

according to LT I have 1,911 books - this total includes comic book trade paperbacks and audio dramas on CD along with all my proper books.

as I entered everything into LT I tagged those I've read (including audios I've heard)... a shamefully meagre 437.

this means I have in excess of 1400 unread books :o

is anyone else in a similar situation, or am I some kind of freak?

Ri - January 31, 2007 02:29 AM (GMT)
*cough*Sand*cough*

Hmmm...I can;t think of anyone around here in your particular situation at all...

terrafreaky - January 31, 2007 02:37 AM (GMT)
My TBR pile is somewhere in the neighborhood of 700(+). I've been semi-trying to keep it within that range.

appaloosatb - January 31, 2007 02:39 AM (GMT)
I just moved, and I could only bring about 1/10th of Mount TBR with me. The rest is in storage. user posted image

CdnBlueRose - January 31, 2007 02:41 AM (GMT)
Mine is about twice yours, freelunch..... that doesn't mean you aren't a freak, just that you have company in your freakiness! ;)

Ri - January 31, 2007 02:44 AM (GMT)
As for me, I think I have a couple hundred. I pared down before our move...

Antheras - January 31, 2007 04:02 AM (GMT)
I think I have at least 3 times the number you do freelunch...

sarradee - January 31, 2007 04:28 AM (GMT)
I have 2126 according to my spread sheet, but I think I've got two or three boxes here in the office that I haven't entered yet, so you are not alone. (I count books I own that I want to re-read as well as ones I haven't read yet)

cheesygiraffe - January 31, 2007 01:51 PM (GMT)
Holy crap! I feel like small change compared to some of you. I probably have about 300 books TBR.

alsgal - January 31, 2007 01:52 PM (GMT)
And my husband thinks I have alot of books

I only have about 225 TBR

yourotherleft - January 31, 2007 02:37 PM (GMT)
I'm at around 700...hardly any, right?

Megi53 - January 31, 2007 03:21 PM (GMT)
Mine is exactly 410! (I must be a tad obsessive, because I keep my count front-and-center on my BC profile page and update it every time it changes.)

Having a TBR this high stresses me -- however, it makes me feel better to see people here with TBRs in the thousands. My ideal TBR would be around 75. Maybe in 4 or 5 years ...

Hmmm...maybe I need to actually see a specific number to motivate me not to buy, to read more and to further pare down the pile. That may be my new freetime project...

I'm around that too... I've been tagging them all on LibraryThing, but I'm still missing/miscategorized a few...

I keep telling my boyfriend that compared to some on here that's "hardly any" but he doesn't seem to be buying it...

karendawn - January 31, 2007 07:36 PM (GMT)
I've counted only the books that I plan to release after I finish reading them (I created a database in ReaderWare so I'd know how many there were) and I have 209. If I add in the ones that I plan to keep when I finish, I have 82 for a total of 291 - so that's not too horrible.

Of course, I have many many more nonfiction, scholarly books that I need to read. Eek!

Okay, so I probably win for having the highest Mt. TBR around here, but I have been doing a bit of weeding lately. Once I get a final count some day I'll let you all know.

I don't want any books. She's already sending me plenty which are mostly rabcks.

Oh poor Sand always getting heat for her addiction....

I have around 200 (total guess) and its waaaaay too many! I want to read them and move them out!

works for me as the ones I've been weeding out have already filled up a couple of rather large boxes.

geishabird - February 1, 2007 02:02 AM (GMT)
I'm too afraid to actually count them; I think the number would make me short of breath. But after squinting at my bookcases (3 good-sized ones, all overfilled and mostly with TBRs), I'd guess in the 400-500 range. It's so comforting to see I'm not alone...

lmn60 - February 1, 2007 04:22 AM (GMT)
Well, I'm clearly a rank amateur compared with you lot! Still... I was so stressed by the number of books I'd received from other bookcrossers - and were languishing on Mt TBR - that I joined Sally906's challenge to reduce Mt TBR. Details of the books and my commitment are on my bookshelf: http://www.bookcrossing.com/mybookshelf

Of course this doesn't include the four boxes of TBR that are sitting in my study - unregistered and unread! :(

I've only been doing the challenge a few days - and already am finding it a true challenge! It's like going on a diet and suddenly wanting to eat nothing but chocolate - when you've been able to contain the urge in the past!

Any of you bookaholics want to join me???

I do have floor to ceiling, wall to wall bookcases in the "study" that my husband built for me so I had to fill them with something...

fantasy221 - February 1, 2007 04:51 AM (GMT)
I have 317 registered TBRs but I also have easily 50-100 books that have labels on them but never actually got registered. Not as bad as some, but it's a ridiculous amount for me given that before 2-3 years ago I never had a tbr pile more than 8 books or so!

freelunch - February 1, 2007 05:10 AM (GMT)
thanks all for owning up - its nice to know I'm not alone and that my pile isn't the biggest... :)

...but 1400 books will take me almost twenty years to read so by rights I should be cutting down on my purchases and trades :(

but that's never going to happen, is it? :P

PepperVL - February 1, 2007 05:46 AM (GMT)
I have a relatively small Mount TBR compared to most of you, but I still hate its size.

There are 111 books on Mount TBR.

I will not purchase another book for me to read, join another swap, sign up for another exchange or bookbox, or agree to another trade until it is below 75.

I will only take wishlist books out of the one bookbox I'm in or purchase books for other people (BallySwappers) or books I've already read I want for my PC.

Of course, half of these are double promises, as I will not sign up for anything else that requires any mailing commitment on my part until I get at least half of the books I owe on their way to the people I owe them to. (Which means I can stay in BallySwappers & the SciFi & Fantasy Bookbox, but nothing new.)

I joined sally906's challenge, too!

It made me realize one of the reasons Mt. TBR never goes down is that I like to join BC reading challenges. I'm doing Hanrahan-Siudy's "50 States" challenge -- to read a book set in each U.S. state by the end of '07; I just love stuff like that. BUT, out of the six New England states, I only had a TBR book for New Hampshire in my own bookshelves and had to buy or check out library books for the five others.

A year or two ago, I joined BreakEveryRule's alphabet challenge (was that ever a toughie!) and had to buy or check out lots of books for that one too.

If I join a reading challenge in the future, it's going to be along the lines of "read-every-book-on-your-shelf-you've-owned-for-over-three-years"!

aussie-rose - February 7, 2007 11:17 PM (GMT)
How high it my TBR pile? TOO HIGH!!! LOL!! Hubby would be *SO* pleased if I went back to my stamp collecting instead of book buying, swapping, collecting etc! 100 stamps certainly takes up a LOT less room! And to think I joined BC to GET RID of books.

anyone want to join me in a little hysterical laughter?

I know exactly how you feel! I thought "Oh relays! How cool, I can get rid of some books!" All I did was get rid of books I'd read and replaced them with TBR's. And buy more because someone said how good it was, and then the exchanges....

Book crazed! I'm just book crazed!

I've been doing very well with releases so far, and plan to do another one here soon. TBR is actually shrinking, but like my waistline, I know it will eventually creep back.....

TITurtle1 - February 8, 2007 12:11 AM (GMT)
Ok, so I counted my TBR... and it came out to me about 143 books... (Well, give or take a bit I have a few double copies...)

caseyw - February 8, 2007 02:41 AM (GMT)
I started counting them once and when I hit 300 I quit so I really don't know how many I have. I'm not up to 1000 yet.

Martie-Kr - February 11, 2007 02:39 PM (GMT)
I'd say 400+ and constantly growing. I don't worry, however, cause it'll get done eventually. If not, I'm taking some of it with me when I go.

KarinAlyssa - February 12, 2007 01:37 PM (GMT)
I don't count my TBR books because I would probably despair, but I know I have more than a 100 which is not a lot compared to some of you, but considering I should study and read law books, I feel bad to have so many "fun" books !

Right now, I have 2 different bookshelves. One in my bedroom at my parents' house where I only put books received there recently, AVL as well as TBR books that I bought. Most of the books sent by other BCers are in my bedroom at my apartment and both are currently overflowing, so I need to read more or read faster :P

ctgmom - February 12, 2007 02:01 PM (GMT)
After yesterday's shopping trip with Sand, I now have over 200. Got to work on getting them registered now.

We had some great luck on the $1 clearance rack at Half Price Books in Lexington, KY. Okay so Sand had REALLY good luck with the clearance rack, but I'm not saying any more.

You people corrupted me. Before I found bookcrossing I had a meager TBR pile. It grew with bookcrossing but after finding bookrelay... it spawned! Seemed to grow and grow and grow and I've been unable to weed it out properly. But I still have a pretty puny TBR compared to some of you. About 300, give or take a fifty. :P

Same here -- until I found these guys, I used to (now everybody sit down 'cos what you're about to read may be shocking) run out of things to read. That problem has been well and truly remedied. :P :bananadance:

But um, my TBR is probably more like 400-500, if I count things I haven't registered yet.

Oh my gosh, thinking about it that way is scary!
