I'm here -- don't have a book, so I can't send out a reveal until late tonight. (Hooray! a Barnes & Noble shopping trip.)

I just finished reading Twilight by Stephanie Meyer -- and discovered that it's being made into a movie to be released in December. I enjoyed the book and will be getting #2. I can't offer Twilight for swapping because it's on my Kindle.

It's because I was enjoying Twilight that I decided to play in the swap -- figuring I'd get a similar book at the end. (Plus I get to buy a book for swapping and read it too.)

There is alot of hype about the 'Twilight' movie and I hope it is worth the attention its getting!

I wish I could have a Kindle...or even have a look at one...I don't think they intend on having them here in Europe...maybe someone else knows if they even work here. Although the cost is a little much for me right now.

I hope you enjoy the swap and get something good! If you want any pointers when the reveals start coming along don't be afraid to ask!

The Kindle "works" just fine anywhere. One feature of the Kindle which only works within the USA is the WhisperNet communication from the Kindle to Amazon. This was implemented using EVDO cellular technology and a contract with Sprint. The WhisperNet connectivity is free to the Kindle user -- meaning that the price of the network access is built into the price of the device and the books you buy. In Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia, etc. the network doesn't exist to support the WhisperNet connectivity. In fact, there are no cellular carriers in Europe that support the EVDO protocol -- they all use GSM.

But you can connect the Kindle to any PC or Mac and just drag and drop books onto the device. If you get books from Amazon, you would download them through Amazon's Media Manager web page rather than getting them delivered directly to the Kindle through the WhisperNet connection. And, you can get books from places other than Amazon.

Problem for you in Europe is that since Amazon can't supply the WhisperNet they won't sell to anyone with a non-US credit card or mailing address. Some US folks who live outside the US have bought Kindles and then taken them abroad. There are rumors that Amazon.uk will be bringing out a Kindle edition in time for Christmas.

Taking the GateKeeper to work. Will send out my reveal when I return.

Where's Lemmy?!?!?! :whip:

GateGypsy - July 18, 2008 10:10 PM (GMT)
I've sent my reveal to Amber, Kathy, and Shaunie. I have Sejent's. I'm good to go! :pepper:

terra57 - July 18, 2008 10:40 PM (GMT)
Oh shit, I think tonight is Lemmy's night out at the movies with her brother. I know she works all day so you might not see her til late tonight. Bet she went to see Dark Knight. Hmm........punish Lemmy I say! :whip: :whip: :whip:

shaunesay - July 18, 2008 11:11 PM (GMT)
My reveal has been sent out as well, I am ready to rock and roll... uh... I mean... swap and bite!

GateGypsy - July 19, 2008 01:56 AM (GMT)
I'm going to go have a shower. Then I think maybe I'll read while I'm drying off. Be back later.

elsi - July 19, 2008 02:31 AM (GMT)
OK guys. I had a good time researching possible books by reading the wishlists of several folks in this swap. Then I went to Amazon and had a ball following the "also bought" links from the various books to others. Finally made a short list and left the hotel just as Numbers was coming on -- quick drive to Barnes & Noble and bingo! the book has been purchased. Not only that, but I've sent my reveal out to Amber, Sejent, GG, and Xeyra. I have not yet registered the book, since anyone looking at my bookshelf would know what book I'm offering by looking at the most recently registered book. I'll register after my book is revealed so that the journal link will be available to go into the database.

Looking forward to the swap.

I register a book with the name of the swap as the title, my name as the author and in the message I write that the book is for the person who steals it or holds it at the end. Then after I've been revealed I plunk in all the real information.

Noone can cheat, that way :giggle:

That's a pretty good idea! I wouldn't have thought of it.

K, I've gotta get dressed and get going. We're taking some friends out for a birthday dinner. Be back latah!

Because Your Vampire Said So (Broken Heart, Oklahoma #3)
- Michelle Bardsley (TBR)

When you're immortal, being a mom won't kill you - it will only make you stronger

Even though all the non-vamps in Broken Heart, Oklahoma, skipped town, Patsy Donahue has kept her hair salon up and running thanks to the werewolves prowling around. They know how important good grooming is, especially a certain rogue shapeshifter who's as sexy as he is deadly. Now, if only she could put a leash on her wild teenage son, who's up to his neck in danger. The stress would kill Patsy, if she wasn't already undead. But her maternal instinct is still alive and kicking. And no one had better mess with her own flesh and blood.

Lemonitsa - July 19, 2008 04:29 AM (GMT)

Now, I'm going to bed because we are getting up real early in the morning. I won't be back home 'til after 4pm, but I will call Terry from work sometime near 11am so she can "check me in" on her computer and see if I need to make a move.

cheers and 'night to you all.

Morning Gals!

I have a bit of a fuzzy head today...I think I may have drunk too much last night...

Anyway I see there is a wishlist already out there for me! You do all know the unwritten rule about not stealing from the Birthday Gal unless she gives the ok....don't you?

Just wrote this in the other thread but thought I'd repaste here. :)

Okay I'm going to be fairly busy all day tomorrow (Saturday, which is actually today after I take a short nap) but I'm sure I already had something picked out for this swap; just can't remember now what it is. Grrrr...

Since I'm not too close to the front it's good as tomorrow is gonna be a wicked busy day and I don't suspect I'll be able to check in and even get my reveal prepared until sometime tomorrow night. Hope that's okay! :)

If I can figure out/remember what my reveal was in the morning, I'll try to send it out to a few peeps then. Thanks!
