Title: I'm ba-ack!

MissTree - July 5, 2008 10:19 PM (GMT)
I think that some of you knw a bit of what I've been going through. I was very, very sick for several weeks to the point I was too weak to walk any further than the rooms of our small apartment and needed a wheelchair to get to doctors and hospitals. I even lost 2 lb's in 2 days! No appetite, nausea, some vomiting and lower belly pain.

I ended up at the ER on the 12th of June. I was so sick they took me ahead of everyone else. After lots of testing, including a CT scan they found a largemass in my pelvis that theyn felt was cancer.

After a bit of shuffling around, I went into surgery on the 23rd...had a total abdominal hysterectomy and appendectomy. (They took the appendix for staging.) Surgery went very well, was over more quickly than they expected. The doctor feels really good about it. They got 98% of the tumor, which turned out to be ovarian cancer.

I have been dealing with one problem from the surgery. I had already been dealing with a back fracture, which had caused leg pain, numbness, tingling, and even caused my left leg to collapse at one point. It's eak and atrophied. Well, during surgery something happened to the other leg, and it is now my weakest leg. It is getting stronger, though, and I'm getting better every day. My appetite is back - with a vengeance! I couldn't stop eating yesterday! (I'm eating all healthy stuff, though.) Anyway, I was in the hospital for 6 days. I've been home almost a week. I came home with a walker. I have lots of physical therapy and cancer treatment ahead, but I'm getting so much better!!

Oh...I dont mean to offend anyone, but I'm calling the cancer cells Arch Conservative. Bleeding Heart Liberal will be victorious!!!!

xoxox,

p.s. Are you feeling well enough to read?!

Actually, the cancer hasn't scared me yet. (At least not much.) I've jsut been concentrating on taking one day at a time. I see the doctor on the 22nd and I'm sure we'll discuss treatment then. First I need to build back up before I can start any treatment.

They took my appendix to see if the cancer has spread to anywhere else in my body. I have heard rumors that my cancer is stage 3, but am not sure.

No more worries about me eating! I ate like a pig all day yesterday. I think I was hungry every hour on the hour, and the appetite, while more controlled today is still good.

Glad you liked The Final Confession of Mabel Stark. It was such an unusual, interesting book! Hope you like Uncle Silas, too!

I am reading again...one indication that I'm getting better! Right now I'm taking my time with Jane Eyre, a favorite comfort read.

Thanks for the prayers and good wishes!

Hang tough Miss-Tree! Just remember all these good vibes and prayers supporting you!

I have a good friend who was diagnosed last year with ovarian cancer (stage 3C) and she's had the same op as you & now gone through almost a year of chemo and has been declared cancer free! She is back to her old self although she still has monthly "maintenance" chemo.

Keep up the PT! We are so glad you are heading towards health again.

caligula03 - July 8, 2008 07:04 PM (GMT)

I hope MissTree doesn't mind, but since it's not a locked LJ entry, and I don't know when she'll make it here...
