It's that time of year again! That's right, the local library is having their book sale and after the sale is finished, books which aren't taken by charities are thrown. :cry:

This year I managed to rent a self-storage unit and will be taking as many boxes of books as I can fit in my car. I'm hoping to only rent the storage unit for one month, since funds are tight.

If you are willing to pay postage for a box (or several boxes) of books, please email me (my screen-name at yahoo.com) with your address and the number of boxes you would like. Cost for a box of books is $15. Boxes are usually between 15-30 pounds. If you can arrange to pick up the box(es) of books yourself from Byron MN, they're free for the taking. I'm really sorry, but I don't have PayPal at this time. You can send a check or money order, or concealed cash. My address is PO Box 537, Byron MN 55920. If you'd like to send extra to help cover other costs (renting the storage unit, tape, gas, etc) I'd be thankful for the help, but I know that funds are tight for a lot of people right now, and I'd rather you take a box/boxes of books than not. I like to send pre-numbered labels with some of the books too, as I'm able, because I'm nosy and like to see where the rescued books end up. :P :rofl: :whistle: If it's okay for me to include a sheet or two of sticky labels for you to use, please let me know!

If we've traded before or you have a really stellar history (been a BC'er for a long time and successfully participated in multiple rings/rays/boxes, for instance), I'll take your request for a box on faith and mail the box out before I recieve your money. :wink: Otherwise I will wait for the payment to arrive (by July 14th at the latest) before sending your box - no hard feelings, :hug: I just can't afford to lose too much more money doing this (I expect to be out about $125 all-told).

The books left over after this sale are always a pretty 'mixed bag.' Typically we get a lot of paperback fiction (mostly romances, mysteries, and thrillers) with some nonfiction as well (all sorts of topics). I try to give everyone a good mix. When we did this in 2006, people using PaperBackSwap and BookMooch reported that they usually had a few books from the box get requested after listing them. Usually about 75% of the books are in obvious used/been read condition, with the rest like-new. I won't send any books that are falling apart, mildewed, badly water-damaged, etc - only books that I would be comfortable reading and releasing myself. :)

If you'd like to send postage for a box of books and request that the books be mailed somewhere other than to you (such as to a prison, woman's shelter, organization sending supplies to Iraq with a US address), that's fine too! Just let me know where to send them and what the organization is, and I will try to pick appropriate books.

PMs don't always go through, so please email me (appaloosatb at yahoo.com) and post here instead. I'm really sorry to my international friends, but I can only send to US addresses :unsure: (although if you have an m-bag and want to work something out with your m-bag host, or work something out with another BC friend who will act as your 'way-station' to provide you with a US address, that's absolutely fine).

Two hours later, we ended up rescuing 100 boxes of books... :blink: :o

...which should translate into about 45-60 boxes of books for BookCrossers. WOW! I think this is the largest amount of books we have ever picked up. It took three cars (trunks, back seats, and one front seat in each car) to hold them all. They are now safe and sound in the storage shed, and I will start packing up boxes as soon as tomorrow. I'm going through emails tonight and will update later with a list of people requesting the boxes, which I will keep updated as I get boxes packed and shipped, and as I receive money.

We got primarily paperback fiction, mostly mysteries/thrillers, literature/fiction, and romances. There are also about 10 boxes of paperback nonfiction with all sorts of topics. We should be able to put together good mixed boxes for everyone. :)

So don't be shy about requesting box(es)! *G* :rofl: :wink:

Put me down for 4 boxes (will be spreading the books out around the Navy base here in Bahrain). I can send a little extra to help with everything else and the prenumbered labels and all are fine. I'll email when I get off work. Only thing I ask is there anyway that you can stagger the shipping of the boxs to me? I will have to carry all these books home and out here I don't have a car. My plan will be to get them home, get their labels in them, then each time I come to the base I will leave a few a round.

my 2 boxes got here and I am so stoked! There were a handful from my wish list as well as tons that I've never seen before. I'm starting the labels with ones that are duplicates for me or ones that I'll pass on right away.

It is going to take me days to get them all labeled and journaled. Please be patient Appa.
