Title: REMINDER: 6-MONTH RULE NOW IN EFFECT

CdnBlueRose - June 25, 2008 11:18 AM (GMT)
Now that most VBB's have been integrated into the Owed Book Database, it is very clear that there are a number of members who are still actively participating this month when they have outstanding obligations well past the 6-month timeframe. PLEASE check the database if you don't know where you stand on this and contact one of the moderators if you need help with the database and/or sorting things out. We have started to contact people who are behind and it has quickly become clear that this reminder is needed. We truly appreciate your attention to this! PM with any questions! If you are behind more than 6 months in mailing your owed books, you must cease participating in swaps, relays, and VBB's, until such time as you are caught up to within the 6 month timeframe.

I've copy/pasted this from our rules which are posted in the Site News and Announcements forum:

5. Effective June 1, 2008, there will be a "6-month mailing rule" applied on the BookObsessed site. The majority vote of our poll clearly indicated that our members would prefer to have something like this in place:

http://bookobsessed.com/index.php?showtopic=4119&st=0

All books should be mailed within 6 months of the swap or relay date. When alternate arrangements have been made (such as books being held to be delivered at a personal meetup or something similar), an explanation must be written in the Note field on the database and a moderator can put the book into "On Hold" status if required. Books being mailed to an mbag recipient must be mailed to the mbag organizer within 6 months and a comment must be put in the Note field stating the book has been mailed to the mbag organizer. This moves the book off the Owed list. These books will not be marked Received until the mbag recipient actually receives the mbag.

The easiest way to keep track and to check on length of time books have been owed is to use our Owed Books Database:

http://creator.zoho.com/cheriepie/bookobsessed-owed-books

Here is a link to the thread explaining and discussing the database:

http://bookobsessed.com/index.php?showtopic=3954&st=0

The dropdown menu on the database includes an option for "6 months" which will display everyone's books that are owed past the 6 month timeframe. Swap hosts should check this list prior to starting their swap OR contact one of the moderators to have the info checked prior to the start of the swap.

It is expected that the majority of members will self-monitor, meaning you will keep track of your own books owed and will stop participating in further play if you fall behind the 6 months. For those who choose not to self-monitor, the moderators will be checking the list and contacting members as necessary.

Everyone who has been reading the swap forum, and particularly those who participated in the poll, has been aware for some time now that this was coming, but we are still waiting until June 1 to "officially" put it in motion. If you haven't already sorted out your mailing obligations, please take a look at the database and get things up to date by June 1. All moderators are happy to assist you should you require help with the database - just PM one of us.

Effective June 1, 2008, anyone behind more than 6 months with their mailing obligations should cease participation in swaps, relays and VBB's until they catch up to an acceptable time period.

I am glad you posted this Rosie.

One thing I want to add. If people have realised they have gotten themselves in trouble, owing loads of books, please remember we are all quite helpful here. :)

There is just one big VBB I still have to add but once done most if not all the owed or mailed books of the swaps, relays and VBB's will be in the database so you can easily see what you owe and what you should receive.

Books that people of the black list owed are now on hold, so they are still there but wont clutter the database so when you check the 9 or 6 months filter you can see if you owe any boosk paste that date.

If you have any questions, like, this book should be in there or this book shouldn't, you can pm Rosie or me or any of the mods. For relay books you'd better pm Chambejd. She is in control of the relay books.

Im sorry that I haven't been keeping up to date on this issue, I think it's a great idea and definately needed to be done. I can't even begin to imagine the behind the scene work that was involved!! Kudos to all of you who put this together! :)

Who do we contact if we have a conflict with the list?

momx3lovesbooks - June 26, 2008 03:14 AM (GMT)
I answerd my own question by just reading the VERY well written FAQ! Awesome job everyone involved!! So I'll be pming you Rosie! :)

edited to add: I pm'd you Rosie, but then I created my own Zoho account (momx3lovesbooks) and edited the transaction which moved it to the "received books" I think I did it right..

YAY! Yes, momx3lovesbooks, it all looks correct to me - thanks for taking care of that, it is much appreciated! :)

Hmm I took a look at the over 6 months and 9 months filter. now that all the old owed books from the people that are on the list of MIA, are on hold, I am startled to see still so many people owe books from a long time ago. People that are still playing a lot.

I think it would be a good idea that if the players do not have the willpower to stop , the hostesses, swaps and VBB's check and if they see someone very behind, they either can pm them or ask a mod to.

Maybe you think I am mean, it is just about books, but I do not want another MIA person, just because of those books.

Books are addictive. :)

That's already been discussed Marleney, and is part of the benefit of having all the info in the database, now we as swap/box mods can see all the activity at once, rather than having to check multiple places which many of us were not willing to do. This should make things a lot easier. Thank you for all of your hard work!

Yep! and we are! We haven't contacted everyone yet - it IS time consuming at this point while we have quite a few, so we're doing what we can and we WILL get to everyone. Hopefully more people will check the database and self-moderate!!
And hopefully, once we've had all the info in the database for awhile and the rule has been in effect for awhile, there will be less and less on those overdue lists! ;)

The VBB's had a rather large impact - I don't think people realized so many books were behind in the VBB's - it's good to have the info all in one place! :)

Do I send my info to be updated in the database to someone? Or do I have to get a login account (how?)?

you can do either one. :) Somewhere around here there are some instructions. And you can always PM a mod to point you in the right direction!

I'm still supposed to do this myself for VBBs/swaps that I host, right?

I sent a "form letter" PM to the folks this effects in the Everybook VBB reminding them that they can only replace books until they've caught up with their past-six-months-due books.
