Title: I'm going to England!
Description: but just for a few days

krin511 - June 19, 2008 02:42 PM (GMT)
Hi! I'm on a panel at the "Television Without Borders" Conference at the University of Reading next week and will be talking about television archive research in the U.S., Saturday, June 28th. I'm leaving the US Wednesday evening, arriving at Heathrow Thursday morning. I then fly back to the US on Sunday. I wish I could stay longer, but the conference is only hosting me for a few days, and we're short-staffed here.

It would be great to see people if possible though.

:)

My panel is on Saturday from 1:30-2:30 pm. I'll probably attend a panel afterwards from 3-4:30, but then I'd be free.

Just checking - any plans made? I will have intermittent email access there - the coordinator said I could use her computer, but I don't know how often yet. I'm krin5292 on gmail.

I don't think we are going to be able to make it to you Krin  Sunny has to drive back home that evening :( the rest of the time you are here I have to work. Next time you come it would be cool - if I have notice I can take time off

krin511 - June 30, 2008 01:08 PM (GMT)
I'm home!

Here's a recap:

I left home (Olney) at 9:40 Wednesday morning. I took a flight from Baltimore to JFK and then a flight from JFK to Heathrow arriving 7:30 Thursday morning (London time) = 2:30 am my time. After going through Passport Control, I went down to get my bag - it wasn't there. I got a reference number to call later, and took a bus and taxi to the Bulmershe campus of the University of Reading. My bag arrived in the UK Thursday afternoon and got to me Friday afternoon.

So, you're probably wondering - how was the conference? It was very good. It was titled "Television Without Borders: Transfers, Translations and Transnational
Exchange" and there were papers about "Blood Ties," "Heroes," "Sesame Street," and the recent adaptation of "Gulliver's Travels". I talked about the wide variety of television archive resources in the US.

I didn't have time to go to London, or even Reading proper - maybe next time! :)

Sunlightbub - June 30, 2008 01:38 PM (GMT)
Glad you had a good time - and that your bag caught up with you!!

Marlene - June 30, 2008 03:57 PM (GMT)
