Title: Poll: I'd like to host a US CC VVB
Description: US Only - Cozy/Culinary Round 1: July

BunnyLady - June 13, 2008 10:55 AM (GMT)
US Only Cozy/Culinary VBB

To be held every other month (opposit of my 2003 or newer VBB) beginning in July (September, November, January, etc.) Standard VBB rules apply and will be posted at the time of start up if enough interested parties want to play.

all cozies and all culinary or only cozies that are culinary?

It seems a redundancy of yummy yummmy except that it is US only?

Is postage an issue?

I swing both ways. There are tons of great books from outside the US that I'd never see w/o intl groups, but postage can be steep.

what are your reasons for the box and explain the books in it for me please.

BunnyLady - June 13, 2008 01:54 PM (GMT)
All mystery's (both cullinary and regular cozy's)

To me shipping international is a problem for postage costs. With the price of fuel (I own a trucking company so a "fill up" for me is $1200.00-1500.00 depending on tank size) continually going up I have to cut costs as much as possible.

I don't want to have to give up swapping so I thought I'd see the interest in a US Only mystery type.

I have to agree with this. :erm:

That's pretty much the Mystery VBB then isn't it? Except that you'd like it to be US only... Are you in the Mystery VBB? Maybe you can join and just try to work something out if one of your books is selected by an international player.

I thought the same thing. I understand about being limited on shipping costs, but I don't really see any point in starting a whole new VBB that is essentially the same as one that already exists, just to limit shipping to the US.

Maybe an occasional US only Culinary Cozy swap would be an idea, if you can garner enough participants?

ramson - June 13, 2008 08:24 PM (GMT)
I'd be for it and don't see a redundancy. There are never enough cozies let alone culinary cozys in the mystery VBB and the yummy yummy is all genres of books not specifically cozies.

BL - If you can't get enough interest here maybe we can set up some personal swaps since these are the genres I read most heavily.

I'd be willing. It's getting to where I can' t afford to ship overseas and I enjoy playing. But I usually don't look at the swaps at all since very few are limited to the US. I am dropping out of almost all the VBBs I belong to as I just can't afford the postage anymore. :-(

HoserLauren - June 14, 2008 01:36 AM (GMT)
Given that I'm not in the USA, I wouldn't be able to participate so I said no.

terrafreaky - June 14, 2008 02:32 AM (GMT)
I do like the US only exchanges because I am lazy and don't like go to to the post office. (I'm in love with Paypal postage!!) but I'm not really a mystery person, sorry.

azuki - June 14, 2008 03:24 AM (GMT)
Rather than having a box that is covered by two other boxes (they mystery and the yummy) already it seems a bit redundant. I think swap would be a better idea?

On the other hand, not to hijack the topic but I'd love to see a non fic vbb!

You can buy international postage on PayPal... it even prints up a customs form for you.

Same place you go to buy the US postage, only in the box at the top where it says Ship to United States, you click the drop down and pick a different country.

You have to buy priority, but if you're sending more than one thing, flat rate envelopes are generally cheaper. (And the USPS will deliver flat rate envelopes to you for free if you go to USPS.com and order them through the store.)

Me too but I don't have enough or even close to stock an initial box

Megi53 - June 14, 2008 08:19 PM (GMT)
I'd love this type of vbb. I can't possibly manage overseas book postage for the next two or three years. (I've found a few people in Canada, Finland, and the UK to exchange cards with every couple of months, so I'm not totally provincial. There's a big difference between 72 cents and $11.95, though.)

I thought about joining the 2003+ US only vbb, but I've only seen one book in it that I'd be interested in reading (Terry Pratchett).

Hope this works out!
