I was checking out the forum on Charlaine Harris' website and found a section for the new series. It appears to be coming out (on HBO) late Fall of 07. They are casting for it now and will begin filming this summer. It will be called True Blood.
Here is the link for those that are interested.

Uh Oh! i'm going to have to put one of the books I have by her to the top. I'll need to read that before I go watching the show. Since I have HBO and I don't dare miss any eposide ;)

Her books and MJD Undead books were how Sand got me hooked on reading after years of not really wanting to touch a book (bad third grade teacher=forced us to read books, but only biographies!)
I love Charlaine's Dead books. I am going to start reading the Grave books soon.
Now to find a way to get my hubby to get HBO and a DVR.

Some casting news:
Sci Fi WireOscar winner
Anna Paquin is making her first foray into series television as the lead in the vampire drama pilot True Blood, from Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball for HBO, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Ryan Kwanten and
Sam Trammell have also been cast in the project, which Ball wrote and is set to direct and executive-produce.
Based on the Southern Vampire book series by Charlaine Harris, True Blood takes place in a world in which vampires can buy Japanese-made synthetic blood. Their integration into a small Louisiana town causes quite a stir, and a love story ensues between a vampire and Sookie Stackhouse (Paquin), an innocent waitress who can read people's minds.
Kwanten will play the waitress' brother. Trammell will play the owner of the restaurant where she works.
Paquin (the X-Men movies) won an Oscar in 1994 for her role in The Piano.

I like Anna Panquin. Better than the other choices they had picked.

I can't wait for this series to start. I've never read the books but heard about them Ever since they took Forever Knight off the air, I've been waiting for another vamp series. :bananadance:

We just got a larger tv (hd, too)! Eric in high def! ho boy! Still got to talk Hubby into getting HBO, but that shouldn't be a problem.
Now if they just pick Jason Lewis to be Eric!!!!!! My little world would be perfect!
Doreen, you really got to read the books! They are the ones that Sand recommended to me when I started up with reading again! I think I read 4 of them in one week! They are very good!

This was posted on Charlaine Harris' website:
The latest on True Blood
(HBO series based on the Sookie series):
Anna Paquin has signed to play Sookie, which is absolutely wonderful. She is a great actress, and willing to go blond for the part. Sam Trammell will play Sam. As you've already discovered, Ryan Kwanten will be Jason.
I'm very pleased.

I don't really like the casting so far. Of course I will watch it because I love the books but I don't see Anna Paquin fitting the role. I think the actor cast as Sam looks to young, and the actor cast as Jason looks too much like a pretty boy.
I am dying to see who they cast as Eric-cause he really is yummy!! Although I wouldn't kick Alcide out of bed either.

I don't have HBO either Cheesy! I'll have wait and rent them from Blockbuster or Hollywood.
Never heard of any of the actors mentioned.

You've never heard of Anna Paquin? She played Rogue in the X-Men movies.

She's been acting since she was small. I think she was nominated for the Piano or something like that when she was only 10. I'm just too lazy to check.

I love the Sookie Stackhouse series and even though I'm excited about the TV series, I'm skeptical that it will live up to the books. But, I guess that's the problem with any book made into a TV series or movie.

I have a feeling it will be very Charmish, as far as special effects.

She won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for The Piano (a really good movie) when she was 11, making her the second youngest (behind Tatum O'Neil).

Yeah he was some kinda adventurer ;) wasn't he ?
I just started reading Dead after Dark. And I like it. Of course the printing is small so it takes me some time to get through a chapter. I like Sookie and her grandma :D
Oh geez I just looked at what I just wrote the other night. What a typo. I meant to type Dead Until Dark Wow that's an oopsy

Ah! Now I know who she is. I don't bother with learning actors' names all that much unless they make a huge impression on me.

I just saw on imdb that they have cast the rolls of Bill and Tara Thorton.
Bill is going to be played by Stephen Moyer and Brook Kerr will play Tara.
Now if they would just make me happy and announce/cast who will play Eric (fingers crossed for Jason Lewis   ).

Ok apparently these characters are moved on into the other books. Since I'm still reading the 1st book and don't recognize them :(

Bill is definitely in the first book. I thought Tara was too, but I'm not positive on that... she's only a minor character anyway, one of Sookie's friend, but not one that works at Sam's.

FYI, I read at IMDb that only 3 episodes of this were filmed before the writer's strike. Since HBO didn't want to air it until a full season was filmed, the date that it's going to air was still up in the air last I read.
If anyone has any additional info, please let us know here. Thanks! :)

I guessed the writers strike would put this one on the back burner for a while. I just hope the wait is worth it!!!
