Marlene - May 31, 2008 05:26 PM (GMT)
That's weird, I also thought I had already signed up. Only thing is I am not sure if I have a book but I will try and see if I can find something.

 I can't find a good book for this. Sorry!

AceofHearts - June 4, 2008 09:25 PM (GMT)
This swap is cancelled due to lack of interest

VeganMedusa - June 4, 2008 09:43 PM (GMT)
Can't we just postpone it and try again in a month or two?

bluecat07 - June 4, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
Oh no, too bad! Seems like a lot of swaps have problems with getting enough participants lately. Although we did have some players last time! I hope it will be better in September!

msjoanna - June 4, 2008 10:35 PM (GMT)
I'm really interested in this swap, but I didn't sign up because I've been feeling like I must be crap at picking popular historical fiction.

So far, I've offered 7-8 books in the Historical Fiction VBB and none of them have been picked. They just sit in the box for three rounds, then I replace them...

Can anyone suggest books in this genre that might be popular?

your books are not bad. If you noticed for the last 5 rounds I have had to pass. I can not keep more than 2 books in there at once and unless someone takes one out I can not pick a new one. I have had to see a lot of wishlist book go by the wayside as I just don't have the number of books needed and no one wants my books either. I think we are all in the same sinking boat

There's nothing wrong with the books you're offering. That box has just been sluggish for a couple of rounds. Remember the discussion last month -- Morsecode even said, "I just worry that if people aren't taking books out because they only have enough to replace the books that are in the box then we end up with a self-perpetuating problem." You add that to the fact that some folks are having to scramble to finish owed TBRs, postage rates keep going up, etc. Most of the swaps have been smaller and more people are passing or only replacing in VBB rounds. Eventually, it will sort itself out.

I did offer period mystery or two in the HF box and it seemed a reasonable way to come up with a book that fit the genre -- and which I happened to have on hand so that I didn't need to go shopping at the 1/2 price book store.

I have a couple of problems myself... first, my job is ending in September, so I know I'll be having to find another one, hopefully that will be fast, but if it isn't, obviously some things are going to have to go on hold, fun stuff like this being one of them. Second, knowing this is going to happen, I've backed off on a lot of activity and am just sticking to my first choice favorite genre's, which are Fantasy/Sci-Fi and Paranormal stuff, Historical is still a favorite, but I just can't read it that fast, and I'm trying to work down the owed books I already have, in preparation for what's to come. Third for me, is that my historical fiction tastes are pretty specific, and I don't know that I share them with a lot of people, I really like ancient historical, but it doesn't seem like to many other people do, because it's not ever really put into the box, and when I've used it, it's not often taken out.

But all that's just me and my issues (do I need therapy? :giggle: )

Hang in there guys, I think we're going through another growing pains period, after instituting all of our new rules, which are needed to help us keep ourselves in check, I think a lot more people are finding themselves needing to work off books that we initially thought there would be perhaps.

Marlene - June 5, 2008 10:31 AM (GMT)
O no. This swap is cancelled? :erm:
Ah I should have knows then I had offered my book in the HF box.

I think what you all are saying is correct.

My favorite are the swaps and I decided to play in the HF VBB but then I discovered yesterday that I should not really play in those.
It is just not fair towards other players because I can only give books that don't weight more than 250 grams. (including envelope) which means I can't give my good books cause yes I do have some great books for this genre.

Of course I have to pay 15 dollars if I offer one of those books in the swaps but at least you have more fun out of it, if you understand what I mean.

You get the chatting , the excitement of stealing.

I think elsi is right. I am sure people are trying to catch up with the new database and new 6 months rules and there are people like me , who just can't afford to play in as many swaps as they used to because of the high rates of shipping nowadays.

Me thinks I would rather stop with the HF VBB so that we can still have a HF swap.
But that is my 2 cents. I do think that we would get more people participating and the VBB is not going very well lately.

I am sad that it is cancelled cause it has been ages since I played in a HF swap.
Maybe we can try for next month?

it depends why people are not playing.
Too many other swaps this month or too expensive?
Oh well.
I had planned to play in 2 swaps. this one and the one I am playing in now TBR swap.

I know it is not your fault ace. Don't get me wrong.

morsecode - June 5, 2008 01:57 PM (GMT)
I had wanted to participate in the swap and I know that I posted it in the voting thread. I'm sorry to hear that it has been canceled. I feel badly that I didn't post in this thread sooner, but it looks like it wouldn't have made much difference.

Sorry if I sounded curt Marlene, I am a little frustrated with swaps VBBs and life in general :bash:

GateGypsy - June 5, 2008 11:14 PM (GMT)
I'll keep an eye out, then! Whenever you figure we ought to try again, Ace, I'm in.

azuki - June 6, 2008 12:51 AM (GMT)
Just want to say I'm sorry the swap is cancelled too. I was kind of on the fence. I had fun the few times I joined the swap, but as I have signed up for the Mt TBR I didn't sign up for this one. Just me, trying to limit the swaps I participate in because I simply couldn't peel myself off the computer when I'm in one. So when the African swap, TBR swap and the HF swap are all held around the same time, I just have to make some tough decision.

Not to mention that on the record I do have outstanding books for over 6 months. i had read it but then my husband wanted to read it too so it's with him now and he's a slow reader.

I remember one time it was like this too, it was cancelled, I promised to join in the next one, and for that round there was a lot of participation.

geishabird - June 9, 2008 02:28 PM (GMT)
With me, it's simply that my sister is getting married in a couple of weeks and I simply can't play in ANY swaps right now. Otherwise I probably would have signed up for this one.

Wait, did I miss something? When you say cancelled, does that mean that we won't be having any more of these? Or does it mean that we try again another time?
