Title: Would anyone be interested in..
Description: Horror VBB?
AlterEgoZoe - January 29, 2007 12:37 AM (GMT)
A Horror VBB? I haven't see one as of yet and I was wondering if anyone would be interested. I would include the Sick Horrors as well if anyone is interetested in those, too.
(If someone has an established one, please let me know!!)
Thanks..
shaunesay - January 29, 2007 12:40 AM (GMT)
nope, we don't have one of those yet :)
AlterEgoZoe - January 29, 2007 12:47 AM (GMT)
(I knew I wasn't crazy when I didn't see one..thanks Shaunie)

I don't read enough horror to participate in a VBB..... sorry....
CheriePie - January 29, 2007 03:31 AM (GMT)
Actually I can't say that I read enough to particpate every month either, so I'd not have a ton to contribute. But I do have a fair deal of stuff that's either considered horror, or thriller. But a lot of it is Koontz too which might not be wanted.
So yeah I'd still be interested, but as with my other VBB participation, I would be kind of a "light" user. :)
CdnBlueRose - January 29, 2007 03:37 AM (GMT)
Oh... yeah, I have a lot of Koontz and King - but so does everyone else! :)
wss4 - January 29, 2007 04:04 AM (GMT)
I love horror! Might be interested in a VBB every couple of months or so.
CheriePie - January 29, 2007 04:05 AM (GMT)
Well, I do have stuff outside of Koontz and King (I actually don't have any King believe it or not), but not as much as other stuff so some months I don't read any horror at all.
So yeah, I'd be interested in a horror box but I'm sure I'd have to skip some months for not having anything to put in. So don't count on me as being a big contributer, but if you can drum up enough interest... I'm thinking maybe danes and marlene and some of the other SSS gals might be interested...
CdnBlueRose - January 29, 2007 03:16 PM (GMT)
Hmm..... SS?? Is that what you mean by "sick horror"? Psychological thriller types?

Yup...Anything that would be consider horror (even the gross psycho ones and such) would be fair game. I have tons of horror (including the 2 or 3 King or Koontz) in my possesion.
I have so far that are interested:
Cheriepie
Wss4
We could do every other month or so, if it's needed. Are there any SSS people interested?

I've never known psychological thrillers to be called horror.... but that's just me.... I do my trading of those in the mystery VBB...... but if this was going to be more of an SS bookbox, then I might be interested. When I think horror, I think Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Bentley Little, John Farris - that kinda thing.....
AlterEgoZoe - January 29, 2007 05:58 PM (GMT)
:bash: I suppose you're right. I think I have Hitchcock and Invasion of the body snatchers on my mind. (Sometimes I think some horror have some elements of mystery or suspense like Phantom by Koontz, if you catch my drift)
CheriePie - January 29, 2007 07:42 PM (GMT)
Me too. I have a lot of paranormal type horror of ghosts and haunted houses and the like as well.
wss4 - January 29, 2007 09:42 PM (GMT)
Maybe to entice more folks into joining we can make it a very loosely defined horror box. Meaning that anything that folks want to add that seems remotely to fall under a 'horror' catagory would be okay. I like all types mentioned about. The real Horror, Paranormal thrillers, and sick shit mysteries so I would be game for all of these being in the box.

ditto, wss4!
(ok, I'm off to register some books lol)
CheriePie - January 30, 2007 06:33 AM (GMT)
So as I'm registering some of the books I got from BookCloseouts the other day, a lot of them are of the horror genre so I figured I'd give a good example of the kind of stuff I've been taking in lately that I'd consider horror.
- Cirque Du Freak #9: Killers of the Dawn by Darren Shan (YA series)
- Cirque Du Freak #12: Sons of Destiny by Darren Shan (YA series)
- Vampire Kisses by Ellen Schreiber (YA series)
All of the above are considered horror per Amazon, basically because they have vampires, some violence, and little to no romance. In addition to those, I've got some Barbara Michaels, Tamara Thorne, both horror.
That's just off the top of my head... there's more, but I just wanted to give some examples because I don't have a lot of King or Clive what's-his-name... cuz I think he does a lot of gore too which I don't really care for.
meshe - January 30, 2007 10:54 AM (GMT)
What about Richard Laymon? Isn't he horror?
AlterEgoZoe - January 30, 2007 04:19 PM (GMT)
I think so. Should I go ahead with a new thread? (can I also assume we would be doing something like every other month?)

Oh yeah. I have quite a few of his on my TBR shelf.
I would say see who you can get to sign up Zoe. We would need to see what we could come with to contribute to start the box and rather it looks like we have enough books & participants.
AlterEgoZoe - January 30, 2007 05:14 PM (GMT)
Ok--I try to let you guys have a few weeks to gather books and maybe a few more participants. :D
Tribefan - February 1, 2007 10:55 PM (GMT)
I'll join! What's another bookbox!!
Do you want me to PM with some books to start out the box?? :pirate:
AlterEgoZoe - February 2, 2007 12:02 AM (GMT)
Tribefan-I've PM'd you.
Guys-I'm going to let everyone find their horrors by the end of February. In otherwords, ready to start around the first week of March. If it's getting to the beginning of March and you don't feel you're ready to start, please PM me--and if a number of us aren't ready, I'll push back a few weeks.
Fair?

Oooohhhh Horror ... This sounds like a really good VBB to get in on. Please add me to the list. I got quite a few of these and not all King/Koontz.
Let me know when it's ready to start/or my turn.
Thanks ~ DEbra

Per that list, I've actually got a lot more horror than what I'd really consider horror. Like Kelley Armstrong's books, I tend to group those as paranormal fantasy. And Keri Arthur, paranormal again, though I didn't consider them horror. *shrug*
I guess they're loosely defining anything with vampires that doesn't have a strong romance to it (which I don't particularly care for personally anyway) as horror. So if that's the case, and we're going to loosely define horror to include vampire books with scary parts and little to no romance, then I'll have a lot more to play with than I initially thought. :)
AlterEgoZoe - February 11, 2007 06:53 PM (GMT)
I can still add more people to this VBB. Also how is everyone on their horror finds?
redhot-brat - February 11, 2007 08:02 PM (GMT)
I'm ready ..... Horror/Mystery/Thriller is my preference in books, so I got plenty to choose from. I think I'll pretty much just see what's being offered and adjust my choices accrdingly , as all mine are registered and tagged already.
See ya early March ...... Looking Fwd to it.
AM10000 - February 11, 2007 09:09 PM (GMT)
I'd like to be added in on this box please. :)
CheriePie - February 11, 2007 09:37 PM (GMT)
Okay, I've got enough to play with, but none of them are available yet. They're all still TBR.
I've never actually started a box though, but I assume we need some stuff to throw in from the start, right? Are we requiring each participant to throw in a particular number to get us started or what?
I can probably commit to getting at least one of these read and reserved to start off the box by the end of the month. Or possibly two if you don't mind a TBR... I know it's okay to throw TBRs into the box later on during play, but I'm not sure if it's good to throw them in as starter books...
AlterEgoZoe - February 12, 2007 04:12 PM (GMT)
Sure! 1-2 books would be fine from each person.. TBR's are also ok. :)
SandDanz - February 12, 2007 04:31 PM (GMT)
add me please... I may skip sometimes, but I'm definitely game.
wss4 - February 12, 2007 05:13 PM (GMT)
I can help out with starter books too but I am going to have to get to reading. lol
AlterEgoZoe - February 12, 2007 05:35 PM (GMT)
lizziwhizz - February 13, 2007 12:27 AM (GMT)
I think I'll join this one, I've got one or maybe two AVLs that I can put into the starting pot. I've been in a horror mood lately, it seems, so it might not hurt to participate in this one! I can help start/host if Zoe wants, I've co-hosted the audiobookbox a couple times. Has a start date been selected?
AlterEgoZoe - February 13, 2007 02:03 AM (GMT)
I don't have a start date ATM, but I was thinking sometime the 1st week of March or so...
(I'll PM you lizzi about co-hosting, etc)
redhot-brat - February 13, 2007 02:18 AM (GMT)
Let me know if you need a few more to get the box started .... I got some I can kick in too.
SandDanz - February 13, 2007 04:18 AM (GMT)
I'll check Half-Price Books when I go Wednesday to see if I see any worthwhile horror on the clearance racks. :)
