Article Announcing child #18

I ALWAYS try and keep an eye out on this family. They've just announced they're expecting number 18 around New Year's Day.

Wow! That's a lot of children...

We don't have cable, but I saw a few specials for their 13 or 14th, I think. That Mom must be 100% patient!

HoserLauren - May 9, 2008 07:03 PM (GMT)
At what point do you think she'll say "Honey, that's enough!!" ?

cheesygiraffe - May 9, 2008 07:27 PM (GMT)
I said Honey that's Enough after #2 and Honey got fixed. :giggle:
But hey they both love children and can provide for them. God bless them 'cause I'd be in a nut house myself.

IMHO, these people are crazy. There is no way that the parents can really get to know each child and spend quality time with each one. I find them utterly ridiculous.

nursiegirl42 - May 9, 2008 07:46 PM (GMT)
I have watched their shows.. each of the older children get a smaller child that they are responsible for.. the mom Michelle takes care of the "baby"!

I guess it works for them I would go NUTS! They have a web site with some of their fave recipes on it..

My niece was a school with one of the older boys from this family

I'm sorry but I feel there is no way one can parent all those children and it isn't an older child's responsiblity to parent a younger one.

They must be able to afford it with a 7000 sq ft house

I think everyone helped build the house. The parent's used to do real estate or something...they talked about a seminar.

I also don't think they have any debt.

I mean, I didn't mean for this to get political or anything, I just thought it was amazing.

I, personally, do not have/want children. So I'm just amazed that they seem to pull things off the way they do.

AND they're recipes look awesome, but I don't know enough people to come to my house in order for one of the recipes to be fully utilized. :giggle:

Well I sure as heck couldn't do it!!

When I was very little we lived in rural Virginia, and there was a Mennonite community nearby -- my parents actually bought the property from them. (Mennonites are a lot like the Amish.) They were really nice neighbors.

Anyway, the closest ones were a family with 24 children! Four sets of twins! And get this -- the mom of the 24 and one of her then grown older daughters showed up at our house one day and announced that my mom needed a break and they were going to regularly babysit me! And they did!

And may I say, poor Jinger..what sort of a name is that? ( there must be other names beginning with J - like Jaguar or JamTart which are less awful!) :P

I don't mean to offend anyone, but honestly, I think they're a bunch of religious nutters, especially after reading this... http://www.duggarfamily.com/aboutus.html

But hey, to each their own, right?

Agreed. The world isn't overpopulated enough yet?

:giggle: JamTart - I'd have used that if I'd had a girl..... ;) but would you nickname her Jammy or Tart? :giggle: Ah, Sunny, you crack me up!!

That woman has spent almost 14 years of her life pregnant........   Oh, I just read the 2 sets of twins part - so only 12+ years.... still, that's 11+ years too long for me! :peek:

cheesygiraffe - May 10, 2008 02:27 PM (GMT)
One thing I want to mention. It's great she can get pregnant and have healthy babies. But what about adoption? They could be helping out a lot of unwanted and unloved children. :(

:2cents:

Sounds more like a litter of cats or puppies than a family. I think those parents should be spayed or neutered! There is no way they can parent that many children! To me it's just wrong to have an older child be responsible for a younger sibling. after all, it wasn't the older child's decision to have a sibling, now, was it? If you are going to make a baby, then you should be the one to be 100% responsible for rearing that child, at least until the child turns 18!

:soapbox: Ok, I'll step down off my soapbox now!

:hmm: I wonder how long until poor little Jellyfish comes along.

Um... how are you pronouncing it? Because in my head, it's just a weird spelling of Ginger, and I've known a Ginger.

Well as I am sad, I looked it up the other day and it is a derivative of Ginger! Not sure how it is pronounced though

It is pronounced the same as Ginger. I went to school with a Jinger and have seen the Duggar's many episodes on TLC or Discovery Health. My best friend and I have a strange fascination with this family and often discuss them at length. Odd, since neither she nor I have any kids of our own.

I do agree with the other posters that it seems very unfair to make an older child care for so many other younger ones. Doesn't seem like much of a childhood. It always breaks my heart when they show the episode where their 11 year old daughter is standing in a room surrounded by the laundy for all these people that she is responsible for doing.

I watch all the large family shows like the Duggers and Kids By The Dozen and Jon and Kate Plus 8. There is another one of these large families - their name escapes me but they are the ones who put on the big baseball tournament and run a radio show out of their house if anyone knows who I am talking about. Their oldest son is like 25 with other sons in their early 20s and they still are sharing a room in their parents house which I just find incredibly odd. If I was raisied with that many kids I would have been out of there as soon as I could support myself.
