Title: Horror Book Box - would anyone like to run it?

lizziwhizz - May 7, 2008 10:14 AM (GMT)
Hi to Horror Book Box participants and others who peeked in!

Two months ago you may have noticed that I took over the Horror Book Box mid-run. This was because AlterEgoZoe decided to end her membership with BookObsessed. Everyone did a great job for the round and I appreciated your help.

It's almost time for the next round to start. I am wondering whether anyone would be interested in running this box. I feel that I can't commit 100% to maintaining it. I recently found out that my teaching contract will not be renewed due to budget cuts, and I need to devote myself to finding a new job!  :pirate: If I find one, this means I start all over in the fall as "the new guy" which is kind of stressful. I don't want to ditch anyone in this box!

The box only occurs every two months and has very few members, so it is a short run. I can still manage the Books Out of Play Thread.

If anyone is interested please post here or PM me. Thanks!

I would love to assist, especially if means keeping the VBB up and running. But my online time is so inconsistent. I either work 8 hours a day or 15, depending on deadlines, so I'm not always around to be online (and there is no way for me to check in on the boards at work).

If it's just a matter of getting the box started on time and checking the posts to make sure everything is accurate and running ok, I could probably commit to that. If it means following up with people to make sure books get to where they are supposed to go (I'm still not sure if there is a "wizard behind the curtain" so to speak), then I probably wouldn't be very dependable for that.

Could this post possibly be more rambling????

I guess what I'm saying is that if no one else can take over, I can help at least for the next box (possibly more, depending on work, life, etc.). Is that an answer???

Mellion if you want to take it over, I will be glad to help you out. I don't want to commit full time, but school will be out soon and I will have some spare time for the next few months, so I can back you up. :D

Would the two of you like to share it? It does involve maintaining updates, etc, starting the new rounds, and determining whether or not people can play. At this point we don't have anyone in the box who owes books from very far back. It would be reflected in the Out of Play thread, which I don't mind continuing to manage.

Whaddya say?

I'd be game to give it a whirl for a while, especially if Wendy wants to assist (at least for a while). We never seem to have a ton of people on this VBB, so at least in the beginning it might not be so difficult.

You realize, of course, that I pretty much have no clue about what I'm doing. I assume there is a cobwebby tome that can be pulled from the sacred locked vault somewhere, dusted off and handed down to the newest crypt keepers. I promise not to spill Coke on it while I'm at the computer.

What do you think, Wendy?

I know we usually start the box on the 13th of every other month. I wouldn't be able to get it going the morning of the 13th this month (I have NO time before heading to work) but could start it in the evening or the evening before. Is that a big deal?

Sounds wonderful to me. I have run a couple VBBS for a while when the hostesses were unable so I have some experience. Summer vacation starts in 14 more school days so I will be around more then.

So go for it and I will be happy to help out whenever you need it.

Thanks so much mellion and wss! I'll continue to run the Out of Play thread. I really appreciate it ladies :) :) :flower:

Awesome!

I'm already running late for work this morning, :whip: so once I'm home tonight, I'll start the May 13th VBB. It will probably be around 10 (EST), so hopefully anyone out there looking for the box will find this thread.

Thanks!

Ok, I posted the 5/13 Horror VBB. Lizzie and Wendy, I went ahead and marked both of you as "confirmed," but let me know if that's not right.

I'm not sure about how to mark people's names with an @ if they owe books. I haven't had time to go through the owed book thread and compare. It looks like everyone is ok.

Hopefully people will play this month!

I put a headline above the spot. Everyone is good this round!

Thanks again!
