Title: General Complaint

Not quite sure where to list this, but it is an annoying habit that we have all gotten into. We do lists for swaps and VBB's and do not list the person's full ID, thereby making it difficult to PM to tell them it is their turn or that you need their address to send them a book. It is especially hard when people have a number after their name. I can often remember the nickname, but not the number.

Please everyone - put the full ID on things!!

From the otherside....the nicknames save the swap hosts some typing and the nicknames are fun!

If you're stuck you can click "members" and then search by "name begins with". Just a suggestion!

FWIW, the database uses full names, not nicknames so whoever does the final swap data needs to fill in the full names anyway.

It's easy to forget that new members may not know the veterans from before.

I totally agree with you, Kathy! The nicknames might be fun for some, but they cause extra work for others and that's not right. The nicknames can certainly be used elsewhere in conversation and such, but shouldn't be used in swap/VBB lists and such.

I agree Kathy! I posted about this once before. Not all of us know each other well. It's hard to "guess" what someone's real name is. I think it's okay to use nicknames when posting moves but the participant list should contain real user names.

Agreed, it gets confusing for me when people just say terra. It could either be me or terra57. :) (Oh, please let that be the right number. My apologies if it isn't.)

shaunesay - May 6, 2008 03:31 AM (GMT)
At least so far there isn't another Shaunie ;) That's probably a good thing for ya'll... one of me, either full name or nickname is quite enough!

I think you are right.

It would be great if the swap hostesses when they make the first update post, use the real BC names. Most do that anyways.
so only the particpants posts, that would be a great help.
But this would mean you had to use my BC name which is CrazyDutchwoman but on zoho I am just Marlene.
guess just stick to Marlene.

It makes it easier for me to add the data unto the database.
I do think I can use the nicks in my sig.

Yep that is me and sometimes I really had to search but mostly I do know who is who. :)

... since the swap host () is doing precisely that!

Agree with you KathyB :)

sorry zzz I thought hostesses was plural but I guess i was wrong. it is plural for females?

Yes Lauren.  , just kidding. Ace, I do but never in the database right? I always make sure to double check everything I add.

PepperVL - May 7, 2008 10:13 AM (GMT)
Marlene, hostess is female (plural hostesses) and host is male (plural hosts). If you're referring to a group of mixed gender, you'd generally use hosts.
