Title: Exchange-a-holic Question
Description: When is the next one?

Amberkatze - May 2, 2008 08:47 PM (GMT)
We haven't even finished unwrapping our May Day exchange packages and we are already thinking about the next one.

I have been told there is usually an exchange in August? Happiness Day? 8th of August?

Who is organising it? Anyone? I would love to help or even organise it...I love doing it ;)

PepperVL - May 2, 2008 10:16 PM (GMT)
The next one is generally Happiness Day... and I had thought that zzz organized it in the past, though apparently AEZ did last year.

ramson - May 3, 2008 06:17 AM (GMT)
I think it was just last year we snuck in a Christmas in July swap which was small but very fun.

cheesygiraffe - May 3, 2008 01:46 PM (GMT)
I want Happiness Day again! I don't want to organize. I can't handle any extra stress right now but if someone wanted to I could help. :)

giz-angel - May 3, 2008 04:34 PM (GMT)
Happiness day is good and I guess it needs to be soon to get the shipping sorted out...

wss4 - May 3, 2008 06:55 PM (GMT)
I agree Happiness Day!!

So does ZZZ or someone else want to step forward and host? I am sure Amber will host if no one esle wants to; :giggle: but others should step up and say so if they want to do it as I am sure Amber won't take offense.

giz-angel - May 3, 2008 07:16 PM (GMT)
I am soooo not stepping up :erm: nuff stuff already!

Sunlightbub - May 3, 2008 07:26 PM (GMT)
Next one I'll take part in is Happiness Day ( if it happens). Not volunteering though!

PepperVL - May 3, 2008 10:46 PM (GMT)
I will organize Happiness Day, unless zzz wants to. And I'm happy to have Amber and/or Cheesy help. :D

Kyrissaean - May 3, 2008 11:12 PM (GMT)
I organized the very first Happiness Day exchange! :giggle: Don't care who organizes the next one though -- looks like we have several apt volunteers.

But yeah, we should definitely do the double happiness thing! Well, triple happiness this year, since it'll be 8-8-08!

It will be Triple Happiness! :o

And as Milan pointed out in another thread - it's the start of the Olympics!

So it's the Olympic Triple Happiness Exchange! :giggle:

I don't know why I thought zzz used to hose it; maybe just because he likes it so much. ;shrug:

But if no one minds, I'll go ahead and post sign ups after I get back from the going away lunch we're having for my brother tomorrow.

 um... why unless I want to organize? I didn't have intention to host exchange (really) especially not Happiness Day because I'll be in Finland/Russia July 22 - Aug 9.
I was just suggesting that we could called this Happiness Exchange "Olympic Exchange" because it's unique opportunity: it's the day that Olympics begins and that will never happened anymore. namely the rule was that the Games begins in Sept but since Beijing is host city in their tradition is Aug 8th Double Happiness day (this year triple) and because of that they decided to change that "rule".

I surely don't mind ... actually quite opposite. Thank you! :)

I am getting confused. these are the summer olympics right?

Did not rememebr that those also start late. I thought summer Olympics are held in Summer.

O lovely . 3 weeks of watching sports! I used to be a sports adddict. watched every biathlon comp, lots of ski jumping, alpine skking, tennis but this winter I did not watch one match. Missed the European and World Ice skating.

Hmm

Marlene, it's 29th Summer Olympic Games in Beijing!
Winter Games aren't in August  neither are the same year as Summer ones. Last Winter games were in 2006 in Turin, Italy (and next one 2010 in Vancouver, Canada and 2014 will be in Sochi, Russia)

(and yes usually Summer games start in Sept but because of triple Happiness Day this year it's earlier)

PepperVL - May 4, 2008 12:33 PM (GMT)
Okay, zzz, how do you get multiple posts quoted into one. I used to know how on the old forum, but I thought we lost that functionality?

boomda181 - May 4, 2008 12:55 PM (GMT)
I apologize. if this is not the proper place to ask, but how does an exchange work? Sounds like something I could easily become addicted to, hence my interest

Yeah! I'm totally impressed that zzz can do that, but when I posted about it in a previous thread, he just sort of unhelpfully  said, yeah you can do that. But I need more help than that!!

I'm sure others can answer better than me, but I'll start. It's a little like a Secret Santa, only at various times of the year. :santa:

You agree to give somebody "at least one book" from their wishlist. The organizer assigns you the person you will give to, and you get them at least one book from their wishlist. It might already be registered on bookcrossing; it might not. It might be a book you have already on your shelf, it might be one you buy new for the occasion (or buy second-hand for the occasion).

Most people, although this is NOT required, also include little extras in the package, either more than one book and/or candy or small gifts like pens, stickers, bath salts, who knows what.

Anyway, the book or books (plus maybe small gifts) are all sent to your partner and meanwhile somebody sends you one, and on the assigned day everyone opens their parcels and compares notes on what they got. Just read through any "opening thread" on this forum to see what it's like.

I think the only other thing to add is that you won't know until you get your package (or until you open it) who is giving gifts to you (it is not the same person you are giving TO). But I'm sure the others will think of added explanations to give you.

 Potok I told you that you shouldn't be impressed because I'm editing post and that's how I have multiple quotes. I didn't know you didn't understand that I'm doing manually.

Yeah, he said You shouldn't be impressed, because all I'm doing is editing. You should be embarrassed that you haven't figured out how to do it yourself yet, you clueless html-moron, you! :bash:

:j/k:

Potok-fan - May 5, 2008 06:27 AM (GMT)
So seriously, what do you copy and paste from where? Or do you just read and remember, Pepper, whose real name is PepperVL, said such and so at 14.53 and then type that in? With what other code? Presumably the time stamps get a little messed up, because 14.53 for me is 12.53 GMT and so forth...

Marlene - May 5, 2008 09:50 AM (GMT)
I guess he just hits quote, copies that post.
go's back. maybe hit another quote, copies that one. and so on.

if you go and do the quote thing, pretend you are posting and then quote it. then you will also get the name and the time of the poster

 I'm not Rain Man you know.
If you like to quote few thing from the same post type your comments and instead to add reply you should preview post and then you'll get all tags. After that you just need to edit that post (copy/paste quote tags and arrange them with your comments).

However if you'd like to quote comments from two or more different posts (like I'm doing now) first part is the same: type comment, click preview, arrange tags and when the comment is done you copy it in your clipboard.
Then open second post you wanna quote, paste your comment, click preview and then arrange it with quote from second post and second comment. When you're done (you can always check how it looks by clicking preview) just click add post.

Or you can regularly quote second post, click preview, copy and edit already published comment by pasting it (just click "Submit Modified Post").
Just pay attention about the order of quoted posts: if you're not re-arrange them it will appear in reverse order. That's why it's always safer to click preview and if necessary make changes before submitting.

I told you shouldn't be impressed, it's manually and might be complicate in the beginning but I do prefer this way rather than numerous posts one after another.
I hope I've managed to explain in understandable way :erm:
