Title: May Southern Cross
Description: -------------------------------->
freelunch - May 1, 2008 01:32 PM (GMT)
my first book arrived a few weeks ago, courtesy of
VeganMedusa, and I managed to resist opening it until today...

A brand-new copy (and from my wishlist), thanks
very much! :D
I've read Alexander McCall Smith but nothing from this series yet, so it'll be a while before I get to this one.
catsalive - May 2, 2008 01:13 AM (GMT)
OK. It's by Alexander McCall Smith but as I can't see the pic I have no idea what series you're talking about :P
freelunch - May 2, 2008 01:36 AM (GMT)
well that was a pretty poor effort on my part
the image should be visible now.

I was on a bookring (still a couple of readers away) for this one, and I'm sure it was on my wishlist before that.
I loved the first Dexter book (and the TV series based on it) - really looking forward to reading this instalment. thanks very much! :D

I watched the first episode of Dexter (missed the second one last night). It looks interesting. I'm glad to hear that it's based on a book though - if I don't like the series I'll try the books (let's face it, they're probably better. :D )
freelunch - May 6, 2008 05:55 AM (GMT)
Series One is based on Book One (with some additions to make it last 12 episodes) but I understand Season Two is very different to Book Two. I'm not sure how much input Jeff Lindsay had into the TV series.

It was indeed on your wishlist before that - and you can imagine my horror when I found it gone from it when I rechecked before sending it on to you!!!
I couldn't find it on your shelf, though, so figured I'd take a risk.... glad it paid off!

Hello Freelunch,
I'm madly reading your May Southern Cross Book right now, and will send it to you along with 'Three men in a boat' - which I owe to you form the Oz VBB.
Sorry for taking so long.
freelunch - May 11, 2008 10:12 AM (GMT)
Hi Jubby
no problem - there's still plenty of May left :)
dolphin-au - May 13, 2008 01:35 AM (GMT)
Hi freelunch,
I haven't been able to find any of the books on your wishlist , so I'll have to send something else. Shouldn't be too long anymore!
freelunch - May 13, 2008 12:55 PM (GMT)
no problem, dolphin-au
I definitely have enough to keep me reading through the end of May, and there are bound to be any number of future favourite books out there which aren't on my wishlist :D

received today from
livrecache:

a nice hardcover collection of quotes and extracts about books and reading. not something I'll read cover-to-cover, but one for my
PC, to be opened at random and enjoyed when the mood takes me.
thanks very much :D

Ah, like Jubby, I'm madly reading your book that I will be sending you. (Unlike Jubby, I only just realised it was May... Oh well. Seems I can only ever be prompt every second month!)
And I'm up next month!!! Jaysus, I'm so disorganised, I didn't realise it was almost my turn already! I'd better get that wishlist looking a bit less scruffy (although I don't expect things off my wishlist, but it's a nice guideline).
Hmm, at least I don't have to worry about being prompt next month. ;)
btw, Freelunch, Mr Bear just saw your icon and said "I KNOW HIM!!!". We had to have an obligatory chorus of "Ultralord is not afraid of chicken".
freelunch - May 17, 2008 07:28 AM (GMT)
UltraLord Rules!!
and as I said to Jubby, there's no rush :)

 Backing slowly away from the Ultralord cult. :runaway:

a wishlist book!
I read and enjoyed this on a bookring a couple of months ago, but after watching the clueless film adaptation with my wife I needed a copy for her to read.
thanks very much :D

No worries, I hope she enjoys the book! I thought it was rather fascinating.
Sorry to hear the movie was a stinker, I've only heard good things about it. And am still interested in watching it (if I ever get a solid two hours to spare!).
freelunch - May 27, 2008 03:20 AM (GMT)
also received today, from
crimson-tide:

The Virgin Suicides is on my wishlist, and
Hover Car Racer was until I picked it up a couple of months ago - but two copies means two to release when I read it
(or possibly one to keep for my kids to read), so its all good :D
thanks very much!

it is probably an OK movie, but it didn't tell the story I read in the book - the script seemed to miss the point entirely.
not that I could do any better of course, but lately I've been disappointed by a number of book-to-film adaptations. I hate to think what they're going to do to Drop City and The Time Traveler's Wife...

How funny, you get your May southern crossing book from me the same day I get the June southern crossing book from you.
Unless you've sent me another book for some random reason? :)
I shan't open the package until the 1st. (No! Wanna open it now!)
Thanks heaps, off to start up a thread for June...
freelunch - May 27, 2008 04:04 AM (GMT)
no time to read random books to send out lately, so it must be your SC book for next month :)
(the contents are safely sealed, so you can get rid of the Aust Post satchel if you like)

No, because then I'll spend far too much time trying to work out what the book(s) are! Much safer to leave another layer between them and me so I can't open myself up to temptation.
Dagnabbit, I was going to add some more stuff to my wishlist too before June (not that I expect things from the wishlist, it's just a guideline!).

I'd never heard of Cormac McCarthy before the recent movie adaptation of this book. I loved the film (what's not to love about a Coen brothers film?) then read mucho praise of the book and its author. looking forward to reading it for myself.
thanks very much :D
