Title: Bit of a predicament
Description: Should I email?
Marlene - April 30, 2008 06:12 PM (GMT)
Hi there.
I told you about 1 month ago that I had won , at least one book in a contest.
I received an email from the author on April 1 asking me for my address.
I immediately wrote back with my address but also told her I live in The Netherlands and if that would not be a problem.
(probably not cause later someone found out it did not say US only)
Anyways. I never heard anything. Should I email her back?
It has been 1 month tomorrow. Maybe she did not get my email or maybe I have to wait longer, see if I get something in the mail?
Thanks for any advice. :)
fantasy221 - April 30, 2008 06:19 PM (GMT)
how long does it usually take for something to get from the US to the Netherlands? I would email and tell her the book hasn't arrived yet, and you were concerned it got lost in the mail. That way if she emails you back she'll hopefully mention when it was mailed.

Exactly what I would do. I'd mention that it hadn't arrived yet and that she should be thinking about making enquiries with the post office she used.
Congratulations by the way!
Marlene - April 30, 2008 06:46 PM (GMT)
well mostly not longer than a week.
Or maybe she mailed it with a very slow boat?
I would feel so horrible
shall I ask if she ever received my email with my address?
Kaishowing - April 30, 2008 06:51 PM (GMT)
No reason to feel horrible. An innocent enquiry isn't an insult.
If I had posted something to someone I would want to know if it hadn't arrived so that I could ask at the post office to check things out. :)
You could ask if she got your email as she didn't respond following that.
Both are perfectly reasonable things to do. :)
Marlene - April 30, 2008 06:58 PM (GMT)
Okay I will do that then. Thanks a lot. I find it hard, like it seems I am not patient.

There is no boat option anymore (from USA) so airmail is "must" now.
I've emailed today one American I've mooched book from about the same issue. It says that the book hes been sent March 31st (it take maximum 10-14 days to arrive) but she didn't reply me.
It's strange because we had good mooch history and beside that we exchanged few emails; I even promised her that I'll ask her before add book from her wishlist to mu bookmooch inventory. Now I'm afraid that she sent book to my BM angel because she sent one few days before that one. I said the she could send to angel ONLY if she (angel) wants to read it. Otherwise she should send to me (She earned 3 points for international mooch for both books) because angel already has 5 books to send me. I'm so pissed!
So either author did not send book to you Marlene or the book is lost in mail; but most likely it's the first option.
Marlene - April 30, 2008 07:32 PM (GMT)
Yes i think so too.
Lately I have been receiving all books from the US fairly quickly. sometimes just a few days.
well I emailed her again. crossing fingers she will reply and hopefully pretty soon, cause I would love to know what I won.
If I remember correctly. I can't find the old contest cause she has a new one up. I would have won 2 of her books.
this contest was about secrets so she did not publish the names.
Hope your problem with the moocher will be solved.
eta: I just received an email from her. she apologises and tells me she mailed them!!! last Monday :bananadance:

First time I saw it I thought it's some photo montage. Then I googled to find out it's not joke and it's actually eatable
This must sound completely normal for you ... I'm not even try to describe how it sounds to my non-English ear :erm:
(definitively not :yum: )

no, better not.
I mean, what if I liked it and become an addict and stop paying attention is it spotted or striped or bare??? What then?!? :erm:
(I really should think twice before typing, right?)
Kaishowing - April 30, 2008 09:40 PM (GMT)
I know how it sounds.....it's something schoolkids snigger about on a regular basis - or did! I don't know if they serve it in schools still? But it is a lovely pudding, with hot custard...er.......this is starting to sound worse, isn't it!
Basically it's a steamed treacle pudding with currents in it.
It's terribly terribly bad for you - but like most things that are bad for you, it tastes sublime.

I thought it was photoshopped too. :giggle:
purple-pixie - May 1, 2008 08:13 AM (GMT)
There was a bit of a fuss about the pudding in question, one supermarket renamed it Spotted Richard for a while because they claimed that men were too embarassed by the name to buy it!
Kaishowing - I agree, absolutely sublime! It was a bit of a staple in our household when I was a child.

Oooer missus!

Mmm - Spotted Dick :yum: Best homemade with suet and steamed rather than microwaved from a tin!
Potok-fan - May 1, 2008 03:34 PM (GMT)
I knew there must be a thread somewhere about zzz's photo!
Marlene - May 1, 2008 04:16 PM (GMT)
 And of course it is in mine. (Not that I mind. I love it!!!!!) :bananadance:

I am personally not a fan of spotted dick or custard!! But whatever floats your boat :D
Marlene - May 7, 2008 12:09 PM (GMT)
well I am a bit disappointed today.
I just received one book which was signed and I am really happy with it, but in her first email , she wrote this................
Thank you for entering the Secrets contest and thank you for sharing.
Youšve won some books! Send me your snail mail address and I will send you
the books.
Xo
I just received one. I do not want to sound ungrateful, but because of her email I thought I had won both of them.
is this because I am in The Netherlands? Don't think so cause mailing this book cost nearly as much as mailing 2.
Hmm What would you do? I think I just leave it now, but i had to see your thoughts.
zzz - May 7, 2008 12:22 PM (GMT)
I would leave it (probably I'd be embarrassed to ask second one when the first was basically a gift)
I won books and some goodies on some contest organized by WoM and some others bloggers (it was "Hidden Treasure" contest) and indeed I received one book from the author (with whom I'm still in contact :)) and second prize, from different author never arrived. WoM asked me about it because author said her that the book has been shipped but I really doubt in that.
Marlene - May 7, 2008 12:41 PM (GMT)
A gift? well Not sure about that. I won it, is that the same as a gift?
When I got her email and checked the contest. It looked like I had won first price which meant at least both books and maybe a B and B coupon.
But because it said books I of course though I'd won both.
If it was a gift I would never even think of asking.
Oh well. I am off to get some groceries.

 Oh? OK it seems I misunderstood you.
OK maybe you might send an email to thank her and informing her about book's arrival and then you can ask if she sent more than one (like she said she will) book cause you received only one. Those postmen are such a book thieves :whip: :P
Of course you can mention it's fine receiving one book but just let her know that you're not dummy :)
Marlene - May 7, 2008 04:11 PM (GMT)
Yes I could do something like that. I had said i would let her know when the boosk arrived.
Any other opinions please?
Not sure, I feel so awful having to ask again but hey she stated twice that I had won books
Breeni - May 7, 2008 04:15 PM (GMT)
I would just let it go, Marlene. It's not worth the stress.
zzz, you may have won something in the WoM contest from a particular author, not naming any names here, but it seems she did not send out any of her books. Another winner (in the US) inquired about it, and I messaged her about it, but she did not respond to me. Seems there are deadbeat authors out there, too.

Yes precisely that (what did I say above?).
WoM emailed that author to ask about that book she supposed to send me and she said she did (but I don't think so, although I can't be 100% sure it's just that I don't have lost in mail history *knocking on the wood*))
Oh and indeed that not bothers me at all :)
fantasy221 - May 8, 2008 12:39 AM (GMT)
I would let it go as well Marlene. Maybe she mailed them separately or something but even though you won, I think you might sound ungrateful if you write back to say 'where's my other book lady???' :P

Yep, that's what you said.
I was just confirming that you might not be the only one who got stiffed, so it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't get mailed.

I have no idea where these books stay, do they sit there waiting for their flight?
Something sent from the NL ----> US on April 8th just arrived yesterday, one day shy of a month.
Previously I had been seeing only a week or so for delivery.
