Title: Have ya'll seen this?
Description: BC taking over the wish lists.

EllyMae58 - April 22, 2008 02:58 PM (GMT)
I guess Cliff may be taking his site down. The lists there have already been imported into BC.

http://www.bookcrossing.com/newscontent/524

You won't be able to see if you don't have "wings", it's only part of the beta site right now.

http://beta.bookcrossing.com/wishlist/EllyMae58 (Pictures definitely need some work!)

There is also some new release feature too, but I haven't checked it out yet.

Tribefan - April 22, 2008 03:10 PM (GMT)
Can you not sort it by author and such? I know it's a work in progress but according to the list I have 39 pages of wishes! :o

msjoanna - April 22, 2008 03:17 PM (GMT)
Gah...I hope the transition doesn't take too long and they get the sorts working and such soon. How am I going to pick out exchange books otherwise?

Daelith - April 22, 2008 03:20 PM (GMT)
Well crap!! I hate loosing Cliff's wish list and I don't always have wings.
Guess I'm going to have to do a wish list on Amazon or something now.

chambejd - April 22, 2008 03:27 PM (GMT)
The article says that it is "only beta for now" so it will probably be a feature for everyone eventually.

Daelith - April 22, 2008 03:38 PM (GMT)
I hope anyone looking at this doesn't go strictly by the covers cause they've got a lot of wrong covers with books I have listed. :o

For Second Chances by Elise Lufkin they have this http://beta.bookcrossing.com/isbn/0451198212
:o

Marlene - April 22, 2008 03:40 PM (GMT)
But how can you get it when you have wings? I am on my profile

O wait maybe I should read the news.
I liked cliff's site.
Not sure if I am that happy about it.
And what about granted wishes? sometimes I buy books myself or delete hem?

Okay I found the menu but it says I do not have any wishes? :whip:

I typed zzz and there are many wishes. where are mine?
I posted in the thread on BC.

Yes but it says there are no wishes?
thanks though :)

wss4 - April 22, 2008 03:48 PM (GMT)
The release thing is good because it really incorporates Controlled Releasing, which has always been a pet peeve of mine, since it 99% of my releases, but it is also annoying because it has taken away the ability to use your saved info for releases. Hopefully it is still a work in progress as well.

Have not checked out the wishlist bit yet. Heading there now.

chambejd - April 22, 2008 03:51 PM (GMT)
Marlene, maybe your lack of wishes could be due to you changing your screen name recently?

paganfrog - April 22, 2008 04:01 PM (GMT)
pft ill have to find somewhere else to note down my wish list books cos i dont have wings.

anyone know of other wishlists apart from amazon.

Yes I was thinking that too but cliff changed it. if you go to my wish list under my new name you will see it
see my sig.

I noticed the pictures were wrong too, I think it's probably because they are pulling the pictures from that crap site (BetterWorld, I think?) first rather than Amazon. That is what I was told once when I reported a wrong picture on a book I registered.

redhot-brat - April 22, 2008 04:38 PM (GMT)
I'd definitely say it needs some work. It'll be interesting to see if they manage to incorporate all the features Cliff had too. Things like search wishes, search by author or title, etc etc

I am curious though ... is there a tab or link to get to the lists. I couldn't find it anywhere. I found my list by manually typing in the location (used Ellie's but switched it to my ID). I do have wings, so should be able to see everything. Am I missing something somewhere?

GateGypsy - April 22, 2008 04:50 PM (GMT)
Well, beta now and wings or no, wrong-images or whatever, I'm really really really glad that, if Cliff has decided it's time to let go of his wishlist, I'm glad that Bookcrossing has taken up the torch!! My only concern would be whether out-of-print or hard to find books can get listed, y'know? With Cliff's you're just entering a title and an author (or sometimes not! "any book by Will Ferguson" or whomever was often something one saw on a wishlist) so it doesn't matter if there's a pic to associate with the book or if anyone's trying to sell it on Amazon or whatever. I have several books on my Cliff's wishlist that I could not put on my Chapters or Amazon wishlists because they simply aren't carried by sellers through either store. I guess, in the end, I could always wish those "exception" books on my personal intro on the bookshelf, eh?

All that really matters, though, is that Bookcrossing has a plan to fill in the blank when Cliff takes his site down. I'm glad. It's good that the BC team recognised the value and user demand for the service!

I dont have wings either. There's a site wishlist.com where you can make your own wishlist and set it to public. It's pretty easy to use - I'll probably be moving my Cliff's list to there.

So will you need wings to both maintain your own wishlist and to see other people's?

chambejd - April 22, 2008 05:00 PM (GMT)
Brat, if you are on the beta site (beta.bookcrossing.com) in the top right hand corner is a quick link dropdown menu next to the word home. At the bottom of that menu is a link to your wishlist.

I clicked on "granted" for some of my wishes that I had already gotten but when I filtered by granted wishes nothing comes up. It needs more work but once it gets most of the bugs out I'm sure I will like it (though I will miss the quickness and ease of cliff's site)

Well I can tell you the first book I looked for on wishlist.com they could not find. :pirate:
darn I just want to keep cliff's :erm:

Again, the article says that it is "only beta for now" so it will probably be a feature for everyone eventually. I'm guessing it is just in beta until all the bugs get fixed and it is working nicely. I don't think there is a need to move wishlists to other sites.

shaunesay - April 22, 2008 05:25 PM (GMT)
Nice to have it incorporated I guess, but not very functional for the stuff we're using them for, you know? Hopefully they're still working on it. :)

The link is from the "home" key in the upper right hand corner of the BC page, by your screen name. It's a drop down menu. I had to log out, and then log back in at the beta site in order to see it.

Kyrissaean - April 22, 2008 05:59 PM (GMT)
First, I have to thank my secret winger again, or I'd never be able to see any of this! It was nice of BC and Cliff to collaborate so everything didn't just disappear on us. I really hope this becomes a regular feature for everyone though, not just the winged members.

Yeah, they really need to hammer out bugs with the title pic's.

Kyrissaean - April 22, 2008 06:09 PM (GMT)
Um.... So I'm going through my (really big  ) wishlist, and finding lots of duplicates that weren't there on Cliff's...

But here's my dumb question: Can we add things to our lists?

nwpassage - April 22, 2008 06:14 PM (GMT)
Will we be able to delete things? If I change my mind, or buy the book myself, I don't really want those cluttering up "wishes granted"...

You can click either "remove" or "wish granted." :)

Haven't looked at it yet, but they did say at the convention that this would be hapening and was in complete cooperation with Cliff. It is still in the testing stages and there was all sorts of techno babble  but as far as I unertand you won't need wings to view it.

if you use their bookmark feature, you can add wishes from anywhere on the internet, not just through their interface.

Me too. I love cliff's site. And don't have wings all the time.
I have Shelfari. So I can use that. But need something else that I could put in my profile where cliff used to be.

They said that last year too in South Carolina. But it was just a matter of time before I knew they were going to get around to it.

Personally, I'm pissed. I'd MUCH rather someone else take over the site than it go to BC. BC is difficult to use, goes down a lot, and from what you guys are saying, the wishlists are losing a LOT of features.

Bah humbug. :P

Xeyra - April 22, 2008 10:05 PM (GMT)
I know this is still on the beta testing stage but so far I only see a Delete or Granted option... how about an edit or add? Is it on their to-be-done list? It would be nice to be able to actually edit the titles or books in the wishlist to get their covers correctly (since the new BC wishlist doesn't quite recognize books with different titles than the ones that are directly attached to a ISBN, I guess).

ETA: And maybe a notes section where things like 'pending from X' could be added, since such additions disrupted the BC search for the book (and thus no cover).

cheesygiraffe - April 22, 2008 10:30 PM (GMT)
Cliff's is still up right now? When will it go down?

alsgal - April 22, 2008 11:34 PM (GMT)
It also looks like they imprted the list from Cliff's at some point and it hasn't been updated. I know I have some books that I removed from Cliff's athat are showing on the wishlist. So keep that in mind.

I would imagine that when they move to the regular site, they will reload from Cliffs site.

Ok - I DO have wings, I did log out, I did log back in, I did make sure it was to the beta site.... but I didn't get that quick link button. ????? It says BETA SITE right at the top of the page so I know I'm in the right spot. Any ideas what/if I'm doing wrong here?

Nevermind I hit refresh and now it's there. :giggle:

I am not understanding the new release thing. I tried it out and it released a book to no location. Whoops.
