giz-angel - April 21, 2008 04:41 PM (GMT)

BooksnBeer - April 21, 2008 06:01 PM (GMT)
OK - I'd like to try. Please, please - what are the book requirements for this swap? Also, please put me low on the list - I won't have a computer for most of the day on the 28th.
Sunlightbub - April 21, 2008 07:56 PM (GMT)
Go on then - Need to cheer myself up now no convention to look forward to!!

This is an anything goes international swap!
It is recommended that you offer an interesting book and be prepared to ship internationally.
You must check-in to the game every 12 hours or risk missing your turn!
That's about it....and have fun!
Breeze - April 22, 2008 10:02 PM (GMT)
Wow is this international swap feeling the pain of all the US-only action around here? Or are people just swapped out?
msjoanna - April 23, 2008 01:07 PM (GMT)
I need to be a maybe. I'm going out of town May 3-7, so if it looks like a swap big enough that it'll last past May 3, I can't play.

nursiegirl42 - April 23, 2008 07:00 PM (GMT)
I think its cuz the weather is getting nicer and no one is sitting on their puters much lately.

Nah -- swapping in general has been off. Fewer books are being taken from the VBBs; lots of skips & replacement only moves. Genre swaps have been smaller.
Oh - by the way ... I'm playing this month in the YBS. I'm not playing in the Chick Lit swap because I've had to buy books to offer the past few times since this is a genre I don't usually read. But, I've gotten some good books in return, so once I read them, I'll have something to offer up!

For me, at least, I've been slowing up a bit to get caught up with my owed TBRs and I've joined a couple of the monthly exchange groups and am trying to pass along books that way. As you can see from my list of books received from other BCers, I've got an awful lot of books in my house that haven't been read yet.
But this time, I have an available book that I'd like to use...I just don't know if the swap will end soon enough before I leave town.
GateGypsy - April 23, 2008 10:54 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I'd attribute the slowness of signups to people just catching up on old owed books. I've got a rather impressive little stack of owed TBRs and another impressive little stack of ready-to-gos if you count in all my relay books, too. They are slowly but surely seeping out of my house and into the postal system
I don't think I can play in this swap this time around. I have a book I can use, but it's TBR and I don't want to add another to the stack... still, if you find your ranks are still pretty slim come the time to swap, and one more would round it out nicely, PM me to twist my rubber arm, eh?
teachie - April 24, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
Can I be added to this swap please. Just had 2 weeks away so catching up on all the swaps/bookboxes/exchanges.
giz-angel - April 25, 2008 08:08 AM (GMT)
ummmm if there aren't more people playing I think I will drop out for this month. A couple of people playing have already got the book I planned on revealing and it's just not as much fun :( I will see if other people sign up this weekend.
BooksnBeer - April 25, 2008 02:18 PM (GMT)
:bananadance: I am looking forward to this swap. Any guidance on a swap killer - anybody want to give some hints??
twiggywig - April 25, 2008 06:01 PM (GMT)
May I play? :bananadance:
I have an eye Dr. appt. in the AM, so would need to be a bit further down on the list.
Don't want to sound too ignorant, but what type of books are going to be listed? just general fiction, or.....?

Nice thing about the YBS is that it's an "anything goes" kind of swap. Not restricted as the genre ones are. I think you need to consider that you're swapping with avid readers. It is highly likely that everyone has read (or has chosen not to read) The Da Vinci Code, so that would be a bad choice.
Pick a book in your possession that you would recommend to your friends. Sometimes, I choose a book that I'm planning to read -- making every effort to complete the book before the swap ends since I hate to have an owed TBR in my possession. (I have hundreds of TBRs, but I don't like to owe one to anyone from a swap.) If you've discovered a little-known title or author that you've particularly enjoyed, then consider introducing it to the group by offering a book in a swap.

Also I am in two monthly exchange groups and have to move these books first. But as soon as I have a good AVL, I'll be around. I'm trying not to play with TBRs anymore, unless the swap is really tempting. :giggle:

If we don't get at least 10 confirmed players I'll put this off until next month.
The lack of participation is an indication of what people want....

Yes, sadly I think you are right Breezy.
redhot-brat - April 25, 2008 09:55 PM (GMT)
I think the slow down on swaps & vbbs is a combination of weather getting better so less people are online, people are realizing how many back-owed books they have/had due to the database and are trying to get caught up, and with gas, postage, and everything else going up people are cutting back on the unneccessary things.
That said ... please sign me up. :giggle:

New releases by popular authors are often a good choice, but I mean NEW! Also, consider Bookcrossing's Top 100 Books...those are books that are widely available in the BC community so chances are most swapers will already have a copy, so not a good choice for a swap.
Last, look at the VBB (on this forum) for books that get taken out of the box quickly. That indictates interest. If a book has sat in a VBB for 2 or 3 rounds chances are it won't be as popular.
In the end, ALL books are welcome, I meant for this to just be a guideline! Welcome to the obsession!

Is this swap taking place?
Breeze - April 27, 2008 06:46 PM (GMT)
Probably not...I've asked Giz & msjoanna to confirm if they are participating but haven't heard anything.....
I think we'll just have to wait to play next month!
Sorry people!

Well, the Fort Holder's Swap may have kept people busy -- it was a large & long one, just ending today. And, the US-only swap had only 8 people in it. I'd hate to see this one cancelled.

giz-angel - April 28, 2008 01:08 PM (GMT)
Oh well we can get twice as many people for next months YBS! Gives me more time to get cracking on mt TBR again.
msjoanna - April 28, 2008 01:23 PM (GMT)
Shoot...I'm hardly ever online on the weekends unless I need to check in for a swap, so I just got the message.
Guess I'll play next month if it's a date I can make...
