I was curious if anyone else saw this thread?

I did.
I was wondering how come there is no news or update about the uncon in California, as that was where it is supposed to be taking place. then all of a sudden Charleston announced that it is hosting it.
I am kind of disappointed. As it was not that long ago we visited Charleston for the con, and while it is a beautiful city, it just kind of hard to persuade my hubby (and myself) to spend all the money to go there again so soon. I mean, it's nice to meet all the BC folks and live swap and all, but if we could add some sight seeing and other things to do, it makes the trip more justifiable. And for us Charleston is not exactly a cheap city to visit (no direct flight, expensive hotel, etc).
Maybe Boston and Washington should host an uncon as a warm up to the real thing? (or make it a rule in the future that the cities have to host an uncon before being considered for the big con?)

From Bookcrossing Forums:
No San Francisco Convention This Year
With great regret, I must advise that we are not going to be able to hold a convention in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2008. The bottom line is that we just weren't able to get it together to handle all of the complex logistics, especially as all of us who were interested in hosting the convention, have a lot of other obligations and demands on our time. It's too bad, as there were some great ideas and it looked like we were going to be able to bring together an all-star cast of authors and some really fun events. Perhaps we'll manage to make it happen in the future... so watch the forum for announcements.
Thanks to all those who expressed interest, and sorry if this has caused inconvenience to any of you.

Personally, I just want to meet with you guys, I don't care where, but we can never seem to coordinate a meetup. I was bummed this year because I was pretty sure I was going to London, and that fell through, and now it looks like I probably won't get to go to the Cincy author/reader meetup either. New Zeland will be a tough one too, so I'd like to see something for us thats feasible. I agree Azuki, I'd like to see a new city too. Although I've been to Vegas many times, but I still think that would be an ideal place for a meetup.
THe Charlston Uncon was mentioned at the weekend
