Title: 2010 Convention? Vote for The Netherlands!!!
Description: (please)

Marlene - April 16, 2008 01:32 PM (GMT)
Hi Guys. Just heard the news. The Dutch bookcrossers have been busy.
We want to host the 2010 Bookcrossing Convention.

Our competitors are Boston and Washington DC.

This weekend every bookcrosser will be able to vote.

Where Will We Be in 2010?
April 12, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No, we're not getting all philosophical on you. This is a real question focused on where the BookCrossing Anniversary convention will be in 2010. In just a week, BookCrossers from all over the world will be gathering in London for the 7th Anniversary Convention. In April 2009, the Anniversary Convention will be in New Zealand. But where will it be next? Past locations have been chosen by vote of previous convention attendees. This year, we want to try something different — opening up the voting to all BookCrossers. Convention folks will still vote on Sunday, but for the first time, we'll also have online voting. You'll be able to cast your ballot for one of the three cities who are hoping to host the 2010 Anniversary Convention: Amsterdam, Boston, and Washington, DC. Full instructions will appear in the Announcements Forum by the time the Convention starts on April 18 in London. In order to vote, you must be a BookCrossing member. Good luck to all the volunteer cities. No matter which is chosen, BookCrossing wins, because each would be a fabulous place to meet and sing "Happy Birthday" to Ballycumber!

Please vote for Amsterdam.
It would be great to meet you here plus for such a small country I am proud we are always in the Top 10 of bookcrossing countries.
Amsterdam isd a great city and it would give you a good excuse to meet me.
I live by car 20 minutes from Amsterdam. By trian 25.

zzz - April 16, 2008 01:39 PM (GMT)
I'll MOST DEFINITIVELY vote for Amsterdam!
And then I'll probably come at last! But weekend? That is Friday as well, right? because I'm leaving town in internet-less dimension on Sunday.
And is it necessary to have wings to vote? I don't have those (but 4U I'll buy something from their shop or whatever)
Go Amsterdam! Go!

Marlene - April 16, 2008 01:42 PM (GMT)
Yeah!!! Ask all your friends to vote also please. :bananadance: :bananadance:

I will even try to clean up my house a little  :pirate: :giggle: so people can stay at my place.

It would not cost so much for them to come. Only the journey and food.

Please vote. If you don't plan to come still vote hahahahaha
2 years to save money!!!
we could have a big meet up at my place.

zzz - April 16, 2008 01:48 PM (GMT)
So campaign begins...
be sure all my friends will vote for Holland, but it'll be tight fight especially because it's 10th BC B-Day. But then there is a chance if Europeans vote in large number. It's cheaper to visit The Netherlands than USA and in the same time tickets USA -> Europe are much cheaper than in opposite direction.

Marlene - April 16, 2008 01:57 PM (GMT)
I think it will be very hard for Amsterdam to win, but I hope so.
It would be great. Next year it is in New Zealand. so it would be nice if 2010 would be in Europe and 2011 back in North America?

2006 was in US? I have no idea actually.

zzz - April 16, 2008 02:13 PM (GMT)
Yep 2007 was in SC (Charleston?)
2006 in Canada (I think)
and all previous years in USA

Marlene - April 16, 2008 02:36 PM (GMT)
well Then it is not so bad to have it in Europe in 2010 right?

HoserLauren - April 16, 2008 02:38 PM (GMT)
Sorry Marlene, given the chance I would vote for DC. My boyfriend is in the area so it would very cheap for me to attend that convention. Plus with this year and next year being so far away, it would be nice if I could attend 2010!

azuki - April 16, 2008 02:53 PM (GMT)
So if it's 2007 - US, 2008 Europe, 2009 New Zealand, then it looks like 2010 in North America will be a popular choice. Personally I'd love to see it in US so I can attend, although i may still vote for you guys.

Would you mind waiting a year??‚h will vote for you in 2011 when it's Europe's turn again!?

Apolonia - April 16, 2008 02:55 PM (GMT)
Sorry Marlene but I want everyone to come see me in Boston.

Vote for Boston!!

That's logical indeed but also it was 2000-2007 North America (and only 2005 not in USA) :)

But of course you'll vote for the place you can visit. And Amsterdam is breathtaking, one of the place you must see

azuki - April 16, 2008 03:04 PM (GMT)
Come to think of it, if they have only the BC convention attendants vote, Amsterdam has a very good chance. Assuming that people will vote for locations they are more likely to attend, I'll presume it's less costly for them to go to Amsterdam than taking a trans Atlantic flight.

But once it open the vote to all registered BC users, then North America is most likely to win just because of the number of members. So if they are going to open the vote to everybody, it makes sense that they limit the geographical location first, for example. 201X will be in Europe, and have people vote among the European countries, and 201Y in NA, and competition will be among the NA cities. That should make it a lot fairer.

guess we used up our quota for the next decade?

I agree Amsterdam is a nice place to visit! I totally enjoyed my time there (as a backpack student traveler who was kindly "adopted" by a Chinese family along the road for some long-missed dim sum... )

*sigh* If only the convention were in May. :(

Since finals are usually around the time of the convention, anything international (with the exception of Canada) would make it impossible for me to go... Not even thinking about how much...

Xeyra - April 16, 2008 07:51 PM (GMT)
I'll vote for Amsterdam too! Maybe I may even afford to go there. :P

I believe the first BC convention was in 2004, the year I joined. Correct me if I'm wrong.

zzz - April 16, 2008 08:25 PM (GMT)
Oh Megi I can't correct you cause I don't know but I do believe you. And if you're right the result is:
USA 3
CAN 1
GBR 1
NZL 1

So I'd say NED 1

Wow when I read this news I was so thrilled.
Just thinking of opportunity to see some of you and to show you around. that would be so awesome.
I have read the trains will be free. If that is the case that is great. You can travel in max 3 hours through all of The Netherlands and see lots of stuff.

AceofHearts - April 16, 2008 09:16 PM (GMT)

2004 - St Louis, MI
2005 - Fort Worth, TX
2006 - Toronto
2007- Charleston, NC
2008 - London
2009 - New Zealand

I will be voting for Washington so that I can attend. Otherwise it will be 3 years until I can attend the next one

noumena12 - April 16, 2008 09:38 PM (GMT)
I voted for DC because it is a direct flight (10 hour drive) from Dayton!!! And it is all about me! :)

I'll offer my house to anyone who wants to visit Boston! I am about an hour outside of Boston so you would want to rent a car but the lodging is free. :)

You must not be bothered by pets though!

Vet? Hardly!

(Now is getting interesting )

Kyrissaean - April 16, 2008 10:19 PM (GMT)
The campaign begins! I've been getting emails from local BCers (well, local-ish -- I don't have any active BCers in my neighborhood) about voting.

If it's in Boston, I could drive there! :bananadance:

Is someone trying to mooch a free consultation for her pets? Maybe we should all take our pets along to the convention?

Well, my cat does have gingivitis that I can't get rid of! Hopefully by 2010 she'll be ok though! :)

CheriePie - April 17, 2008 02:20 AM (GMT)
Though I'm in the Boston area now, I'm obviously not going to be still living here come 2010. I'll still have plenty of friends and relatives in the area having grown up here... but I regret that I wouldn't be able to offer up my own space here to supplement Joy's (or space at my Dad's) if Boston does indeed come through.

You can be sure that if there's ever talk of something in the San Francisco/San Jose area again though (since the 2008 Unconvention in SFO is no longer happening), I will gladly open my doors to y'all. :hugz:

SciFisstrs - April 17, 2008 04:35 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure. I like both DC and Boston. Even though I was in Boston with hubby I'd like to do something with the girls :D Of course Matt too :giggle: According to Matt we are about the same distance from both.

Who knows Matt maybe driving than and naturally Meg would want to come. Than the 2 of them can share the driving

The Dutch Presentation is up.

Amsterdam's presentation is FANTASTIC!

(the one for Boston is not available yet but for DC is horrible, I would do better!)

I saw all three presentations this morning - and I had not made up my mind but now I have for sure because the Amsterdam presentation was EXCELLENT! Really, we were all excited at the prospect. And if (as in other years) the decision was based on the vote at the convention, then Amsterdam had an overwhelming majority.

Marlene - April 20, 2008 03:45 PM (GMT)
Yes? I wish we could see those presentations too.

That is good news. :bananadance: But there is still a week of voting to be head.

I'm gonna have to vote for DC. I live in Maryland and it's a 45 minute drive. :D
