I am soooo annoyed right now. I just got to work to check in on the raid swap and my emails and find one from the blogger team.


Some nice person reported my blog as spam and it is now locked!!!

Apparently someone will be reviewing it and deciding if I can keep it!!! I can't even log in and save the html incase!

I can still look at it too....I can't log in though until they ok it. I have to wait up to 4 days for them to review the site and if I haven't heard anything then it will be gone :rant:

Amber, if you can see it, then you can hit view source in your menu bar to get to the html, so you could at least salvage that much, just in case?

This happened to a friend a few months ago, as well. It sucks, but after the four days, you should be able to get back in just fine.

I know it sucks, but I had several spam blogs stealing my content last month, and it sucked that they were able to do that, but it was only through reporting it that they were taken down. It's a necessary precaution to protect us all. Once they see you're cool, you'll be back in business.

And I'll be stopping by to check out those autographed books. :whistle: :lol:

what were they stealing and why? I guess I always think of spam being people sending e-mails out, or posting on forums, not taking info and reposting it?

Just general content from my blog: snippets of reviews and posts, my email address (which was the part that really pissed me off. my address being associated with these jerks). They were just compiling a bunch of unrelated text from places across the Web, hoping to attract hits off it for their spam links.

I hope that is the case. It really shocked me this morning to find the email because I know I haven't done anything wrong!

Especially since things have really started to take off on the blog! I am really enjoying doing the contests and so many authors are contacting me about books and interviews!

I just checked and I can now log in but I am not allowed to post anything on the blog...I can access the html though so I will be copy and pasting that later and saving it. It is actually something I have thought about doing a few times and never did! So I am kind of glad for the push to do it!

i don't understand why they would even consider if it since if they look at your blog it is clearly NOT spam at all. it seems a little extremist to me...

I have made a copy of the code now so at least if anything goes wrong I can start again....I should copy all of the posts too but I haven't got the energy right now...

I know, but depending on how many they have to review, it's better to lock first and stop a potentially dangerous one I guess, than let it keep going. It a lot easier for them to lock and then say sorry I suppose...

Did you get the email I sent you with the code for the search box that you asked me about? I know you wouldn't be able to implement it just yet, but I thought I'd ask while I was thinking of it cuz I'm pretty sure I did send it on its way before I went to bed last night. But I want to be sure you got it. :lol:

Note too that I think it's way too easy for someone to accidentally click that "Flag Blog" link at the top of the page, on the Blogger nav bar. I bet that happens way too often. And when it does, I wonder if your blog immediately gets logged until it's investigated.

I really think they should take that Flag Blog link out of there. It's because of the ease with which that can be clicked on that I implemented the auto-hiding Nav Bar on my own blog (and it's hidden completely on IE). Because with that button being right next to the Search button... well, I'm just kind of uncomfortable about that. (Though I've never actually clicked on it myself to see if it comes up with some kind of Are you sure? confirmation or what...) :shrug:

That happened to me as well while I was on blogger. But the reason was that my blog was reported as "Potentially Offensive". I guess that's because I wrote about the "Iraq in Fragments" (film) or "Vagina's Monologues" :shrug:
Soon after that I was able to post again but then something has happened (without warning) and I couldn't login. That was the last drop and I moved entire blog on WordPress (where I still posting and where I'm satisfied) :)

Amber, I was able to actually find the web page I pulled the "Peek-a-Book" navbar code from, so I figured I'd post it here in case anyone else was interested in it as well. I remember having a hard time trying to find it initially myself because I was searching for auto-hide, but instead they call this silly thing "peek-a-boo". :yuck:

Notes: See the notes at the bottom that it does a complete hide of the Navbar in IE7, but if you use any other browser that supports opacity, you get the auto-hide effect.


ETA - Of course, to make searching your blog easier, you'll probably only want to put this once you've put the Search Box widget in place. Because though I find the Blogger Navbar a pain in the ass, the search part of it is actually quite useful.
