Marlene - April 12, 2008 06:36 PM (GMT)

The Jean Plaidy books, most were rabcks from years ago and people knew I wanted them for my pc so I don't worry too much about them, just a little ;)
The Stephen king books were books I have already read in Dutch, maybe I should just set those available.
Are there any books especially the ones from 2005,2006 you guys say, O that is such a good read. You must give that book a try?
Any help is appreciated. I am sure a lot of people will recognise books.
Xeyra - April 12, 2008 06:49 PM (GMT)
Oh Marlene, if I were to look back and do something similar I'd go into a panic too with the amount of books from other people I've had since 2005. Heck, the first book I ever got on a relay in the old relay site is STILL sitting in my shelves unread (that was in 2005). If some of these don't really interest you anymore, don't feel guilty about not reading them. I have lots of books I got on relays back when I was absolutely obsessed with them and I'm not nearly as interested in them now as I thought I was back then. So, if you don't plan on reading them, either put them AVL or, I don't know, list them on bookmooch or have a draw for specific books! :P
Lady and the Unicorn by Traci Chevalier June 30 2007 is probably the only one I've read from these but I'd recommend it.
By the way, Marlene, sweety pie, crazy dutch woman, can I beg you for The Dark Queen by Susan Carroll when you're done with it? Maybe once you read it (no hurries!) you could perhaps list it on Bookmooch and I'd mooch it from you? It's the only one I'm missing from the Cheney of Faire Isle series.
Marlene - April 12, 2008 07:00 PM (GMT)
Yes of course you can.
It is the only one I have of the series. I will try it and see if I like it.
(will make a note so I wont forget )
Thanks for your reply. Yes Those books of 2005 and 2006. a lot I am not interested in anymore. Lots from relays, rabcks, surprise added books.
Right now I am in a mood where I can read almost anything. Does someone recognise that? Being very familiar with the reading blank or how do you say it, this is the opposite. feeling you are interested in anything.
It is quite fun to make such a list though, easy if you have wings.
search for TBR in your possession and then chose Most recently journalled and go to the last page.
at least I do not have a book from 2004
Love to hear more comments or even see other people's lists.
nwpassage - April 12, 2008 09:02 PM (GMT)
The only 2 on your list that I've read are "Somebodies and Nobodies" and "Pen Pals" by Olivia Goldsmith. I enjoyed both, but if I recall the BC discussion of S&N, a lot of people found it kind of common sense and repetitive. At the time I read Pen Pals I was on a really big Olivia Goldsmith kick, and read all her stuff that was out at that time, but for me at least it wasn't one of her best books, pretty standard fare from her... it is worth a read if you're interested in what life is like in a modern woman's prison! :)
So while I enjoyed both, I'd say that if they don't really grab you, you can pass them on unread without feeling you really missed much.
Sunlightbub - April 12, 2008 09:07 PM (GMT)
I liked Boy meets girl :D
Breeze - April 12, 2008 11:35 PM (GMT)
I would be interested in these 2 historical fiction, and maybe others would take them out of the historical fiction VBB?
The Queen's secret By Jean Plaidy. Dec 03-2005
Anne Boleyn by Evelyn Anthony 11 july 2006
AND Dolores Claiborne by Stephen King is a MUST read if you haven't already read it in Dutch! Great book, unusual for him and I've read it many times!
bluecat07 - April 13, 2008 12:20 AM (GMT)
I have read some books by Anna Maxted and quite liked her. I don't know if Behaving like Adults was one of them but when you are in the mood for chicklit you could give it a try? And even use it for a swap...
Megi53 - April 13, 2008 01:41 AM (GMT)
Don't feel bad, Marlene. I have some from 2004! (Granted, my daughter and/or son read them, but they refuse to journal so the people who sent them to me probably think the books just sat on my shelf gathering dust.)
I think I sent you Somebodies and Nobodies. It's pretty dry and would be a good candidate to release without reading, I think.
Books on your list that I thought were good are:
Dolores Claiborne
Fried Green Tomatoes
Having Our Say
Cane River is one of my favorite books ever, as I mentioned in the Book Talk thread over at BC. If you can't get into it soon, then we have very different tastes and you should ignore my recommendations. :P
ETA: One of the teachers I work with was telling me last week how much she enjoyed Behind the Scenes at the Museum.
zzz - April 13, 2008 08:51 AM (GMT)
I have books from 2002! (actually one and is part of my PC. Now I think about it that was the book that brought me to old Relay forum - it was (can't remember the name) Welcome Wagon Relay for brand new members and it was from Zmrzlina. After that I came on forum pages and stayed  )
I recognized Monica (and literally died of laughing after reading your JE. How can you switch our Monica with the other one :whip:); didn't read it though.
Marlene - April 13, 2008 04:05 PM (GMT)
Just a quick reply. I have to read all your posts but Megi. Yes I am now very much enjoying Cane River.
Back to my book.

I totally agree with Am on this one. I'm betting you will really enjoy it, from what I know of your taste in books. :) |
Yes I thought so myself. I totally have no clue what this book is about but I like it that way. I am planning to read Sleppers once I have finished Cane River.
Also going to read my first book In a Father's rage pretty soon. ?
Plus The Meg Cabot book. Boy Meets Girl. I have 3 books of this series. Read the first one Guy Next Door and really enjoying it.
Now I know the same people of book 1 will be in book 2. I think I did read Boy meet Girl or at least quite a lot.
Really want to set the 2005 books available.
The problem is, most of those are Jean Plaidy books. Because I read too many of them 2 years ago I really don't feel like reading them just yet.
I am sure a day will come when I want to. but boy 3 years.
The books of 2007 and 2008 I don't worry about. Most of those I really want to read. :)
Megi!! So glad you added your list.
I did not count mine. I should do that too.
The Lovely Bones? I loved that book.
Same with pilot's Wife.
Stiff I decided to let go without reading. To scary for me.
Will check your list a bit more.
More Lists please :bananadance: :bananadance: :bananadance:
So much fun to see what you guys have catching dust on your shelves.

I keep all mine in an excel spreadsheet and have made a conscious effort over the last couple years to read books from BCers. Right now I'm down to 56 books and the oldest I have was received 12/3/06. I only have 6 left that I received in 2006 and the rest are from 2007 & 2008.

Thanks for the pointers Ann Marye .
My plan is to start Sleepers next.
I am also looking forward to read Belladonna. Not a book I think, darn will I want to read this?
All the Stephen King books I have read in Dutch and more than once. I think I have read all his work except for The Colorado kid.
The Valentine book is romance. I will give it a try cause there are some authors I am curious about. MaryJanice Davidson. I've heard you guys talk about her books a lot.

Hmm I start to think I did read Pen Pals then. It is about a woman who has to be in jail thanks to her boyfriend? Or I read the first 4 chapters. I think that was it and did not really got my mind to it.
There are more books I did read half of or a few chapters. The Journals of Eleanor Druse, Weaveworld read in Dutch. great book. Drum or Mandingo, is too hard for me to read because of the dialect. I did read a few chapters of The Story of Junk and Bare.
anyways nearly done with Cane River so i can remove one book. :bananadance:
Blue Thanks for the Anna Maxted tip. Yes I will give that a try soon. Don't have too many chick lit books at the moment .
Breeze: Yes that is a good idea. But I do want to read them first. :)
zzz 2002? does that mean you also have many TBR's registered by others of 2003?
Lauren: Thanks for the tip. Yes That is a book I am actually looking forward to
Fantasy: Must give this book a try soon. I am curious if I will like it or not. It is part of a series. trilogy so it would be handy to know so I can look for the other books. (I hope I don't like it)
I am sorry if I forget to reply to someone.

I'm making a conscious effort this year to only read books registered by other BookCrossers** - I want to get them down to under 50 by the end of the year!
I have read my oldest 2 this year and my oldest now is Fortune's Rocks by Anita Shreve which I received 19 October 2004!.
I have 112 on my list and an m-bag due to arrive shortly!
** The only exceptions to this are books for my reading group or series books where I have later books on my shelf and need to read earlier ones.

Enchantment by Orson Scott Card is a great book! I definately recommend it!
CdnBlueRose - April 15, 2008 01:36 AM (GMT)
Don't have time to make a list, but my oldest book received from someone else was received Dec 9, 2004, and it is Digital Fortress by Dan Brown..... guess I could start by locating and reading that one and move it along - then I could look at the next one..... ;)

My oldest is Fool Moon from BP! Registered August 2004 but I didn't get it until 2006. I still haven't read anything in this series :sigh:

I love these lists!!!!
Thank you Xeyra. You do have some great books still to read woman.
Can I recommend Rachel's Holiday BY Marian keyes. It is not the usual chick lit. Great read.
Love the Lovely Bones.
Nw you are so organised. You even have where you got them from and with the links!
good on you!
I just noticed I did pretty good in 2007. Maybe because I stopped doing the M-bags. In 2005 and 2006 I received several. (as you can see looking at the dates)
Right now I picked Clear Springs. Not really digging it to much. but I have read only 57. I give it a 100 pages.
I am also thinking of setting all the Jean Plaidy books on available, maybe releasing those. That would be a mayor help especially in 2005.
The thing is, I worry that I will regret it alter.

No I count only from the day I received the books. so that is not too bad then for you :) right? Or do you have more?
Marlene - April 15, 2008 03:53 PM (GMT)
Clear Springs was a disappointment but i can see why others would love it. if you grew up in The South at the same timezone, i think you would love it.
I think I am going to read my oldest book now. In a Father's rage. I give it a try, if I do not enjoy I am going to read a book I really want to read first.

  Xeyra. Aren't you grateful to me.
Come on Daelith it feels so good once you have done it. (ask Xeyra!  )
No seriously it does cause now I have some control and know which books I should pick up first.
Yes!! MsJoanna!!! :o hahahaha Sorry but I am peeing my pants again. This is all from 2007 and 2008!
ah I see some great books.
The Other Boleyn Girl Philippa Gregory - Jun 16, 2007
I see you also have the Jane Austen book club book. I am thinking of getting that one but the problem is, that would mean I have to get all Jane Austen's books. I did read a few but so long ago.
I did not like book 15
so much to see.
thanks!
Xeyra - April 16, 2008 07:39 PM (GMT)

True...but I've only had the first 12 on there for more than a year...everything else that I've gotten from another BCer has been passed on before the year was up.
Crap...does this make me a bad BCer? Maybe I should have stayed out of this thread...

NO! Of course not! If you're a bad BCer, then we ALL are! :whip: I was just kidding!
It's actually much better for you to only have books since 2007 than us having stuff from way back when that got forgotten in our shelves. I was just feeling slightly better that my TBR pile isn't as huge as I thought if you managed to accumulate in two years almost as much as I did in four.

I thought I was bad but I am doing pretty good actually.
Right now I am reading a book given by another BCer. only this time I received it maybe 2 weeks ago.
Oh well. I am trying.
It is fun when you can stripe one off.
not remove it completely but to use the [s] code. so you can see how good you are.
chambejd - April 16, 2008 08:20 PM (GMT)
I try to keep a scroll box for each year on my BC shelf which show the books that I've received from other BC'ers. They are way out of date though. My oldest books go back to 2004.
Just looking at my BC shelf now and sorting my TBR books in my possession by highest journaler count, I see that I have 174 books TBR from other BC'ers. That's not too bad, right!?

No not at all!!! :giggle:
That is a good idea. I also have the scroll boxes but I use them for the books I have read that year. Starting from 2006.
I do have a list on listofbest (a spin of from 43 things) where I add all the books I get from bookcrossers.
The negative thing, if I release them it does not show.
Books registered by Bookcrossers on my TBR Shelf
