Mornin'! Sorry I didn't get to send out my reveal yet... the dang net was down all night due to the storms. Well, I shouldn't say all night. Jordan and I were playing games on barbie.com when it went out, to never return.

I'm gonna send out my reveal and stuff today while I'm at work. I'll also be checking in a bunch too.

There has been lots of bad weather and lots of power outages in my area that have so far passed me by. If there are extremely long stretches that go past my 12 hours during this swap when I am not here, then that will probably mean I'm without power. Kinda same thing here... only I'm getting the storms.

I think (if I remember correctly) that we live not really too far apart... about say 2 and a half hours or so. Saturday and Sunday I'll be in Gainesville, which is a bit closer to you I think... at least its north vs north east.

For 23 years of my life, I thought my father had made it up. He'd wanted all his life to have a daughter to name Dorraine, and bought a boat which he gave the name, but I didn't come around 'til he was 50! It was at Christmastime that I finally found out the truth: he stole the name from Johnny Cash. There's a song on one of his really old albums (Ride This Train) called "Dorraine of Ponchartrain" -- which is apparently a place somewhere in ... Mississippi? I don't mind so much that he didn't make it up on his own, 'cause I figure that, if you're going to name your girl after a song, you could do a lot worse than something by Johnny Cash!

I'm packing up and heading to school. I'll check in again shortly after noon my time, I expect.

Yep.. it's Hawaiian.

I was born in New Zealand, and my parents wanted an "Island Name" Why I didn't get a "New Zealand" name I'll never know. They found Leilani in a name book, and picked that. My mom couldn't spell it, so in the hospital, my name tag said "Baby Johns" :giggle:

Leilani is actually a VERY popular name in Hawaii, and it means Heavenly Flower. Lei means flower (when you get in Hawaii, you get a necklace of flowers called a Lei)
Lani means heavenly

While working in Greenville, Texas I worked with a girl who was from Hawaii. Her middle name was Leolani - Heavenly Voice.

Mine is pronounced lay-lawn-E
her's Leolani is lay-o--lawn-E with almost a small pause between Leo and lani.

The Last of the High Kings by Kate Thompson (ARC)



The Last of the High Kings by Kate Thompson is a delightful Irish story that could be classified as a fairy tale. Perfect for teens of Jr. High School level to adults, all will find this can't put it down entertaining. I enjoyed this so much I finished it in less than 24 hours.

The story takes us on a journey with an Irish family living the country life and struggling to make ends meet. Between money being a problem and four difficult children, each with their own me, me, me attitude, the Liddy's are beside themselves as to what to do.

Jenny Liddy is our main character and oh so darling. She's cute, intelligent beyond her years, independent, strong willed and stubborn as a mule. She hates school, loves wandering aimlessly around the countryside and talks to a goat. Oh yeah and she befriends a ghost.

With a wonderful crew of characters in this story, you never know what to expect. You have fairies, Gods, ghosts and ploddies. A world once beautiful beyond belief until the ploddies (humans) multiplied so fast that they simply took everything for granted and used so many of the earths resources that it has caused a major upset amongst the other realms.

The author has given us such a wonderful Celtic story here that it could oh so easily be something that has been handed down from generation to generation. A fantastic story told by the fireplace before the children go to bed is what I envision through every household in Ireland.

If you believe in magic and fairy tales then this is the perfect book for you. A must read for anyone from the ages of 12 to 90.

I'm in mourning for my dead laptop. Attempting not to be frantic at this point because I've got my exams coming up next week and no class notes to study from 'cause the laptop won't power on! I've learned my lesson -- When I get my iMac, I am SOOOOO buying the backup drive! :lol: The real question now is: do I buy another laptop right now, or continue saving up? I could get something to stopgap the time from Dell, but I don't have classes again 'til September, anyway... Hmmm...

:giggle: glad you all liked my naming story. Of course, I bought Ride This Train on CD as a birthday gift for my dad that very year (because he hadn't listened to it since he was way young and had it on vinyl). I bought another copy of the CD just last year for myself.

It must be nice to have a name that means something pleasant, Leilani :grin: The closest I've come to coming up with a meaning for mine is Lorraine meaning "sorrow" in some French dialect or Doreen meaning "sullen" in some gaelic sense. :lol: I'll bet you have just as much trouble finding mugs with your name on 'em as I do, though! :rofl:

I believe my reveal is actually the second book in a series, but I haven't read the first.
