Title: browser and codes

zzz - April 4, 2008 07:06 PM (GMT)
I've noticed that my signature looks different in IE (I'm using firefox). Also I was composing reveal post and again in IE looks all upside down while in firefox is so neat.
Is there different type of coding depending on which browser I'm using?

yup, without getting too technical and looking at your specific case, there are a number of HTML tags that IE and Firefox interpret differently. Firefox is the correct way, they follow they W3C published standards, but Microsoft (IE) likes to think that they've got a monopoly on the way they do things and that their way should become standard, and though they've mostly gone standards-compliant, they still have a few things they like to do their way.

If you want to stay compatible with the rest of the world, including everyone on Mac and UNIX (Linux) browsers, then stay with what you see in FF, it's a more accurate representation of how things are supposed to look.

I put this page in IE to see what the difference that I see. Your avatar turns slower and your bats are smaller and to the left.
With firefox avatar is swinging faster and your bats are bigger and to the right :)

I didn't notice the speed but yes position of the birds is different. But the post with the revealed book in Raiding Swap is ugly in IE with the change in position of the image.

They have installed firefox on my pc. Can you try this and it will not screw up my IE settings?

zzz - April 29, 2008 10:57 PM (GMT)
I think your IE settings are safe whatever you're doing. It's almost indestructible and you can use your firefox without any fear.

Yes, like zzz said. We use Firefox except for one site (for booking domestic air flights) which doesn't work with it, so we have to use IE just for that one site.
It's interesting hearing the differences!

They both look the same to me. (Firefox 2.0.0.14 and Internet Explorer 7.0)

However, I know that Microsoft is only just recently beginning to follow the standards with regards to CSS, which is what you're using here (styles, etc.). So perhaps it looks very different in IE 6?

Also, in the first example, you're putting the float on the image, while in the second, you're putting the float on the text.
