Title: Treasure Hunt Relay
Description: Can you find the book?

Smilin-Heart - April 4, 2008 04:44 AM (GMT)
Here's a relay with a twist. Instead of someone listing the book they are offering, they will list clues about the book. This could be anything about it, character names, author, title, settings, etc. The object is to figure out which books is being offered. If you are the first person to guess the book correctly, you receive the book. Then it's your turn to offer a book by giving clues about it.

Here are some other rules:

You can give up to 2 questions at a time and should post your questions no more than two days apart.

You can use books that you have or have not registered yet.

You can NOT look at the bookshelf of the person offering the book. That would make it too easy.

For example, if I wanted to offer, let's say, The Da Vinci Code some clues I may give would be (the italic part is the question I would use):

Have you wished for it? This refers to it being on the top 100 books wished for on Cliff's wish list.

What can brown do for you? This is a play of the UPS commercial and the author's last name being Brown.

Can you break it? For the main character breaking the Code that was left for him.

A renaissance man For the "Da Vinci" part of the title.

etc.

These rules may be modified based off the input of the players. If enough people feel that something should be changed or rules added then we will. I will just edit this post so that all the rules are listed first.

Are you ready to play?

Smilin-Heart - April 4, 2008 04:48 AM (GMT)
Ok here's the first one.

I'm offering this book because Reality Bites

Perdue - April 4, 2008 09:22 AM (GMT)
Could it be Generation X?

(Was it okay for me to look the movie title up in Wikipedia, since I didn't remember exactly what it was about? Is that considered cheating?)

Smilin-Heart - April 4, 2008 11:39 AM (GMT)
No it's not Generation X

No it's not cheating to use other websites. The only limitation is you can not look at the bookshelf of the person offering the book. But any other website is fine.

Marlene - April 4, 2008 01:44 PM (GMT)
Damn I want to play but I don't want the book.
No relays for me. I need to send books out first.

cheesygiraffe - April 4, 2008 02:24 PM (GMT)
I still haven't figured it out. More clues please. :D

camis - April 4, 2008 02:37 PM (GMT)
I would guess it is a book by Ethan Hawke (he was in the film) - I have one by him so don't want to say the title as I don't need another copy

Lol I was thinking about Wynona and a certain book reminds me of her.

aargh I'd better not go in this threrad.
Otherwise I win the book and if I am right I already have it.

Smilin-Heart - April 4, 2008 03:40 PM (GMT)
You can still win the book and I can send it to someone else if you want me to. I'm going to give it a few more hours before I post another clue.

lottiotta - April 4, 2008 03:57 PM (GMT)

My first after Bookcrossing itself. If it wasn't for BC we wouldn't have this site either. I do like the set up of these forums a little better than BC's though

Well, I'll bite and take a stab -- going with the Ethan Hawke themed clue -- is the book you're offering Hottest State or Ash Wednesday? (Or, do I need to wait for more clues so I can pick one guess instead of the two?)

Smilin-Heart - April 4, 2008 11:34 PM (GMT)
Gate... you guess two books. And I'm going to tell you that one of them is right. But not which one it is. HE HE HE

PS i LOOOOVEEEEEEE your avatar. It is SOOOO Cute. Everytime I see it I giggle a little inside.

Smilin-Heart - April 4, 2008 11:34 PM (GMT)
Clue number 2:

You are probably going to want to wash your face.

AM10000 - April 4, 2008 11:49 PM (GMT)
Can I guess?? I'm thinking Ash Wednesday..

GateGypsy - April 5, 2008 12:11 AM (GMT)
AAAAAARG! I leave to pick the kids up from school and I miss my cue! Well done, AM! Guess it's your turn to have us guessing, eh?

Smilin-Heart - April 5, 2008 12:25 AM (GMT)
Congrats AM. It is indeed Ash Wednesday. PM me your address and I will get it out in the mail to you.

Now it's your turn. *settles in with her thinking cap on*

Just a reminder to everyone NO looking at the bookshelf of the person offering the book. I think I will make a point of occasionally reminding people of that. Just in case. Can't have anyone cheating now can we?!?! LOL!

CheriePie - April 5, 2008 12:34 AM (GMT)
Just found this thread and now I'm waiting anxiously on AM's clues. :bananahop:

AM10000 - April 5, 2008 12:52 AM (GMT)
Awsome! Thanks Smilin!! :D

Hmm.... So, I haven't read this book yet, but I can give some good clues about it!

Clue #1: Who knows about the town of Hameln?

CdnBlueRose - April 5, 2008 01:09 AM (GMT)
Cool idea Smilin-Heart! :)

I think I know AM's as I read a book not long ago that fits.... I know I passed it along and now I'm wondering if it was AM who ended up with it, I can't remember.....

Thanks. Actually Lottiotta kinda gave me the idea with a post she had on the Wish List forum on BC. I just added the turning into a Relay. I thought this would be fun.

AM10000 - April 5, 2008 07:50 PM (GMT)
I don't know if there isn't any interest in the book I'm offering, or if people want more clues..

Lizabeth86 - April 6, 2008 01:50 AM (GMT)
I want to take a guess at this but I am actually afraid of being right. I don't know if I'll be able to come up with clue questions. :giggle:

I guess I'll take a stab at it.

Is it ....The True Story of Hansel and Gretel?

CheriePie - April 6, 2008 05:13 AM (GMT)
Is The Pied Piper of Hamelin considered the same as Cheesy's answer? Or were you looking for exact?

It isn't either of those titles! :D

eta: But, like I said, you two are on the right track....

GateGypsy - April 6, 2008 07:42 AM (GMT)
Is it Pay The Piper -- the rock-and-roll fairy tale?

jennymidget - April 6, 2008 11:20 AM (GMT)
Is it Bryce Courtenay's "Sylvia"? I remember that had a Pied Piper character in it...
