Title: Upgrading Forum...

SandDanz - January 25, 2007 04:26 PM (GMT)
I was just looking at pricing for transferring over the forum to an upgraded one and here's where I'm looking at:

Updated Board: http://community.ipslink.com/board/
Updated Board pricing: http://community.ipslink.com/board/purchase.html ($149.99 standard license, $25 after 6 months for access to updates (I assume this is EVERY 6 months?!?!?), and $60 to convert this board over)

For adding on blogs:

Blog Info: http://community.ipslink.com/blog/
Blog Pricing: http://community.ipslink.com/blog/purchase.html ($50 and $20 annual renewal)

I don't think we need the Photo Gallery add-on that is available, but there is a package deal to get the board, the blogs, and the gallery on that board pricing page.

Of course, in addition to these upgrades (if we choose them), we also need to get the domain purchased (which shouldn't be too costly from what people are telling me) and also we need to see about finding a host that allows more space as we only get a total of 16MB of disk usage on this free board. So far we're only using 911.73 kb of that which is 5.56%. I'm not sure how fast that'll get used up though.

At any rate, just wanted to throw out some of the options that are out there. I'm not sure what we all want to do or if there are some better ways to do them. I've just started looking around. Those that know more about this, feel free to offer other suggestions. And I'd like to hear some opinions on what everyone thinks they might want to do. I'm not going to make the decision alone because it's a group thing. I know that I can't afford to pull all that out of my wallet, that's for sure, but I don't want anyone to feel obligated to pay out any money either. Of course, with as many of us as there are, if we all chip in a dollar here or there, we could probably do the upgrade. *shrugs*

Anyway, just some things to ponder over. The Doman Name is first on the agenda and I hope to start putting up polls this weekend to get started on voting for a new name. :D

Do we need to upgrade the board?
I really don't want blogs here. You can get blogs free anywhere and we can put links into our sigs if we want others to see them.

They also have hosting packages.

I know someone who might be able to help out with finding free mods too. Just let me know what we need.

Also you may think about limiting the cut-off period for topics rather than having them to stay forever. That way the available space is constantly renewing.
Also if you need any extra hosting space, you can use HERE which is quite good. If you ever wanted to get the relay side of things going again, that would be a good place to host the code.
That should at least help to slow down the need for a forum upgrade...Eiher way, I'd give it a month or two of normal use so you can guage the requirements for the site. I'm sure the members here will be forgiving during this teething period. :D

Also there are many many sites online with InvisionFree mods and skins...I use them myself.

not necessarily, but I know I've seen lots of comments about missing various features. I'm just tossing out what I'm finding to see what everyone wants to do if anything.

I know this is a sensitive subject and I do not quite understand all these things but doesn't book relay already have a license for the improved board and if we were paying for it, has someone asked CR if he is willing to transfer and can he transfer the license to us?

CheriePie - January 26, 2007 07:15 AM (GMT)
Sand, why pay for hosting or server space when I own my own dedicated co-located server? Silly :whip:

ETA - Though if those prices include the upgraded forum software too, which I really don't think we need at this point, then that's a different story...
