Title: Target?
Description: Trying to decide...
PepperVL - March 24, 2008 09:16 PM (GMT)
So, Target is interfering with my ability to get up and be a functional human being at my main job. So I must quit. Or go down to just Saturdays. One of the two.
Only, being a Libra, I can't decide.
The original plan was to work at Target through May to save money and then quit. I make enough at Western & Southern to just quit Target now, though... but I wouldn't have any saved.
Poll might be closed by 6:05 PM Eastern... depends if the HR Manager is in tonight or not.

Money isn't everything. Your happiness and your sanity is more important. So I say quit completely.
teachie - March 24, 2008 09:36 PM (GMT)
Well being a Libra as well, my advice is to compromise. Try doing just a Saturday and see if that works out, if you are still too tired, quit completely.
CheriePie - March 24, 2008 09:38 PM (GMT)
I'll make a slight addendum. If not having a savings account chock full of money will really stress you out, just as much as working 2 jobs do, then simply take an extra $5 out of your paycheck each week and throw it into an account you can't touch, or put it into a 401(k) or other investment fund. So that way you're satisfying that savings urge as well. (Something I totally don't have, says the gal who lives hand to mouth pretty much.) :P

Well if you make enough without Target I would say quit. Your health and well being are more important.

I'm not a Libra but I'm also indecisive but I agree I'd try working just Saturdays right now then quit if it's too much for you. Money isn't everything but it's nice to have some save in case something comes up where you would need it.

Which is why I'm feeling like I shouldn't quit.
Argh!!!!!!

I'm with Teachie and Cheesy here. I think you should try dropping down to just Saturday's at Target first and see how it goes. Then if it's still just too much, quit completley. That way atleast you can appease your "guilt" by knowing you tried to make it work, but simply had to put your health and sanity first. :)
Good Luck whichever you decide though. :pat:

Well, I'm quitting completely by the end of May regardless, so I guess I can probably handle Saturdays that long... now off to see if the HR manager is in!

Well, the HR manager wasn't in tonight, so I have to wait to see what I can do...
fantasy221 - March 25, 2008 03:32 AM (GMT)
can you save based on just your day job? If not, I say do Target for just Saturdays.

I can, and have direct deposit set up to save a small amount, but I'd like to get a couple hundred stashed away from Target too... as the money from my main job will build slowly at first until I get a few more bills paid off. The end is in sight for that too - 15 months and I'll have dropped both of the big ones that total $600 a month - but it will be slow savings for the next year or so and so I'd like to get a little stashed away just in case, you know?
I'm going to try to do Saturdays for now - if Target will let me. I don't know if they'll approve availability that low, and if they don't, I have to quit, as I can't work week nights anymore.

I'm a scorpio, so I guess, I'd just quit and take on a wealthy secret lover
PepperVL - March 25, 2008 11:26 AM (GMT)
I like the way you guys think better... the poll here is a 2/3 split. On LJ it's 9-1 in favor of Saturdays. :giggle:

I was going to stay stick saturdays until I saw this post.
If you really want to then quit, and like Cherie says put $5/10 in a savings account each week.
I put a bit by each month and it does really mount up and you don't miss it once you start
Gothamgal - March 25, 2008 01:47 PM (GMT)
I'm a Libra, but I would say to try Saturdays... Only because it's like a safety net. If it really isn't working for you, then I would say drop it altogether.
It looks like you'd have less than 10 days of work if you went to Saturdays, so maybe the money is worth it?
:erm:
meshe - March 25, 2008 08:18 PM (GMT)
i said quit completely. maybe there's someone just waiting to be hired who really needs the hours or someone who already works there that could use more hours and if you really don't need them, why stick around for 1 day a week?
ladyjanet - March 25, 2008 09:59 PM (GMT)
I'd do Saturdays, but if Target won't let you, quit, find a fun job that won't stress you out and lets you work one day a week. I live in a college town and most jobs are part time and change every semester. I'll hire you to wash glassware in my lab....

I'm a Libra, too.
But I voted Quit.
1) There are not that many Saturdays till the end of May.
2) You are saving $ in your account from your day job.
3) The fact that you're even asking. If you needed the extra from the Saturdays, there'd be no question.
just my 2 cents.
shaunesay - March 26, 2008 06:36 PM (GMT)
I said quit completely, but that may just be my frame of mind from my own situation! ;) You need some time off!
azuki - March 26, 2008 08:31 PM (GMT)
So how did it turn out?
If you can handle working on Sat in addition to your main job, I'll say work for a few more weeks. Knowing that you will be quitting in May anyway should help you make it bearable. It's like 6 more Saturdays or so?? Being able to see the end of the tunnel helps a lot. And sounds like you could use that little extra money.
But it really depends on how demanding and energy draining your main job and other parts of your life is. And only you know it best. Best of luck either way.
PepperVL - March 26, 2008 09:18 PM (GMT)
After next week, I'm just working Saturdays (I told them I'd work what I was currently scheduled.)
We'll see how that goes.

Well, tonight was my last weeknight!
I'll be able to play around online... and READ more again!
And if I stay on Saturdays until the end of May, I'll be able to set some money aside to save up too. :D
