Title: An idea
Description: what does everyone think?

wss4 - January 24, 2007 09:50 PM (GMT)
Everyone has been working so hard to get the VBBs back up and running.

I know that everyone has been trying to find, post and check the status of past rounds and I was thinking that it might be easier for everyone and make it easier for us with future rounds, if we had a Out of Play thread for each VBB stuck to the top of the forum. That would make it easier for us to find and maybe make it easier for folks to post in to keep the status of books current.

Thoughts?

I think that sounds like a great idea!

cheesygiraffe - January 24, 2007 09:57 PM (GMT)
That would be a lot of pinned topics. I know in other forums when you get too many topics pinned people start complaining. Maybe if made 1 thread and pinned it? It would be all out of play vbbs but that might be too confusing. I don't know.... user posted image

I say there's no harm in trying! If they're all pinned and it is too much and people complain we can change it right? Nothing has to be permanent...

noumena12 - January 24, 2007 10:24 PM (GMT)
I like the idea!!!

giz-angel - January 24, 2007 10:32 PM (GMT)
cool with me

ctgmom - January 24, 2007 10:33 PM (GMT)
It would be nice if the out of play books are in one place. Could we do a separate forum under VBB/NVBB for out of play books? I hopes that makes sense.

I know what you mean cheesy. At the freebie forum I moderate I am constantly going through the pinned topics to see if I can move some because I don't like the clutter of too many pinned to the top. But in this circumstance if we only had one pinned thread per VBB and nothing else pinned it may not be too much.

I know that for me personally I would be more apt to check and keep current the status of my books if the thread was right there and I did not have to hunt it down.

Great idea!!!

I think this is a great idea. I have to say, I always depended on the Swap site. I believe shaunie always linked to the out of play threads, didn't she?

shaunesay - January 24, 2007 11:43 PM (GMT)
Shaunie was thinking about that today and is planning on making a separate box page, hopefully soon, with links tot he out of play threads :)

CheriePie - January 24, 2007 11:54 PM (GMT)
I think it'd be a good idea to pin them but definitely keep them in this forum (there's already too many subforums as it is). So long as there's only one pinned topic for each box, I don't see it being too long of a pinned list. How many boxes are there anyway... without my having to go back and count? About 8 would you say??

I agree....enough subcategories as it is....

Lets see....everything, historical, romance, audio...mystery, teen, fantasy, paranormal....

Looks like 8 was a great guess!

I like the idea too cause they wouldn't get lost and you wouldn't have to hunt for them.

Good idea. That's what I was just going to suggest. :D

The books out of play thread is more like a "I got my book from so-and-so" or "I mailed such and such a book out today." I still have to hunt through the thread to see if my book has been taken. I'd like to see the Books-Out-Of-Play thread just have those books listed and who they're going to, and nothing else.

ctgmom - January 25, 2007 02:59 PM (GMT)
This might be too much extra work, not sure, but could we pm the host/hostess of the VBB when a book is sent/received and then have that person mark the book in the pinned forum. Maybe use differant colors to post sent and received.

Just a thought. I don't want to make it more work for the host/hostess.

I believe that in theory, the last (or next to last) post in the actual vbb thread should contain a list of the books that have been taken out of the box during that round, so there shouldn't be too much seaching through every post. However, the books out of play thread's first post could be continuosly updated by adding the books that have been taken out of the box duing the current round, while still deleting the books that have been received.

It also makes sense to just pm the person whose has the book we are taking.

I don't even think that a PM would be necessary since they should see the books taken after the requester posts in the thread.

It was my understanding that the first post of the out of play thread lists all the books that have been selected...at least that's how I run the romance OOP thread and that's how I've seen others run.... So why would you need to search through the thread to see if your book has been taken? If I wasnt the person who had to update the romance oop thread I wouldnt ever bother reading past the first post!

wss4 - January 25, 2007 05:29 PM (GMT)
Yes typically the first post is edited on a continuous basis by the VBB hostess when someone posts that a book has been sent, recieved, or whatever. So in theory you should not have to look past the first post in the thread even though others will be posting.

Antheras - January 25, 2007 08:25 PM (GMT)
What about one pinned topic that has links to the "out of play" thread for each VBB. That way the links are all in one place but there is only one pinned topic?

Well Shaunie's got a link to all the out of play threads on her swap site, which is why for now, that is what is pinned at the top of this forum. :D

this is what I was doing on the boxes I was hosting as well, so the first post is the most up to date list, then before each round I would go through, click on all the links, see which ones had been received to take them off, and then also go through what people had posted just in case something else was said that needed to be considered. That was until the demise of the forum hosed all our links *sigh* Now updating is going to be a bit more difficult.

I made that box index for ya'll last night, it's a all the boxes that I knew of, with links to the current or last round (not on a couple of them yet, but will be) and also to the out of play thread. I thought that's what was being asked for? have a look and see. :)

I think Lizzi was updating the audio box by posting updated out of play lists, the rest of them were everything in the first post being updated. :)

Shaunie, as usual making life easier for all of us. Three cheers for Shaunie -- love ya, woman!

I honestly don't know how you keep on top of everything, but I'm sure glad you do! :D

I'm pretty sure I'm actually somewhere to the side and treading water for dear life, rather than on top, but thanks! ;)
