Title: I have a problem and I need some advice
lauraloo29 - January 24, 2007 09:33 PM (GMT)
I belong to my local Freecycle group. I've recently resubscribed. I had left last fall. Was a little frustrated with people, etc.
When I came back I discovered the Owner had banned my email address. I've emailed the moderator group many times and I can only get a response from a very patient woman who can't give me the answer as to why it was banned. The answer is with the Owner and only he can tell me.
I don't want to send another email (I'm worried it will look obsessive). But now I'm getting a bit irritated.
I am using a secondary, yet slightly inconvenient email. I really want to use my main one (or at least no what it is I did to get banned).
Any suggestions? I would move past it if it weren't so inconvenient.

I would probably send a second email asking about it. Who cares if you are a pain...what are they going to do ban you again?? :P
Can you set up your secondary email account to automatically forward any email with freecycle in the text to your primary account?
I have unsubscribed from my local freecycle, too. I just found it to be a pain that you can't post your phone number or address. Why should the moderator play god and decide what is safe for me?? I don't have time to sit around and answer emails all day...read the forums all day...now that is a different story!

I unsubscribed to my local freecycle also. I'd look into what chambe suggested if I were you.

I did too - to much agro and anytime I saw anything it'd already gone, and people rarely showed up - plus my freecycle inbox was constantly full with utter rubbish and squabbles!

Hmmmmm it is a frustrating experience. I'm just too irritated at being banned I guess.
Thank you for your advice!

I'm still signed up with my freecycle but I dont get any of the emails or digests. I get enough email as it is. I figure if I remember to check the actual yahoo page and see something that's still available then it was meant to be, if not, then not.

But, yeah, for you, I'd email the guy again. Maybe he's away or it went to his spam folder. Or maybe he's MIA. either way it can't hurt anything to email again. All you can do is annoy him and since youre already banned he can't do anything anyway ;)

That sucks Laura! Although.. I have to admit when I read that you were banned.. it gave me a chuckle! Just because you are SO sweet I can't imagine someone would have a good reason for banning you anywhere! This Owner must be a complete knucklehead!
Hope everything works out :)

I would email again too. "It's the squeaky wheel that gets oiled" (a phrase my friend uses alll the time and it's true).

Thank you all. :) I've decided to leave and not email the group again. I will email the Freecycle organization. I think one of the problems is that my group is one of the largest and the moderators/owners just don't/can't care about everyone. (There are over 9000 members.)

that happenend to me once, too. I offered something that this freecycle didn't allow and others did. So I apologized and resubscribed. But in your case, you don't know what you did. If you really want to go back, and they ignore you, I would probably subscribe under a different name, like your maiden name. Don't know if that would work.
I only use freecycle when I have something to offer. Like you said, by the time you see an offer you'd like to accept, it's already gone, or the pickup is in the hinterlands somewhere hours from your home.

It actually doesn't matter what name I subscribe under, it is the actual email address is blocked. Grumble grumble. :bash:
