Description: how do I claim/buy a name

I know some of you know about this stuff (Cherie for one  )
I want to start a small website for family stuff. How do I register a name or where is a good place to find/buy it from?

From a tech standpoint, there are tons of places, but one of the most comprehensive places to start from, that could handle your hosting needs as well as name registration, is a place like GoDaddy.

ETA - GoDaddy is probably one of the more comprehensive ones, but just for getting a domain name, some other good places are NameCheap.com and MyDomain.com off the top of my head.

You can get your hosting and your domain name taken care of by pair networks. I've been with them since 1997 and have had excellent service.

I'm with Dreamhost but don't know if I would recommend them because they go down about once every 6 months.
