Title: Ebooks?
Description: The Who, What, Where and How?

Is anyone reading ebooks? I just downloaded a free ereader from www.palm.com last week. I'm trying to find out if I like it. I downloaded Emma by Jane Austen to read when waiting places, but I'm finding it difficult to follow. I can't tell if it's the book or reading it on my little Palm screen (I have a Treo650) that's making it difficult.
Is anyone using software to read ebooks? What software are you using? Where are you reading? What are you reading? I'm still trying to figure this out and I'd love some input.

I found a free e-book on Michelle Rowen's website that I downloaded on my computer and then printed out (I prefer the paper version, I guess), but I haven't downloaded it to my palm yet. I had one on there before that came free with the palm I got but it wasn't something I was interested in reading (I think it was a classic) so when my palm went down I never re-loaded it.
Here is the link to Michelle's if you are interested. It is toward the bottom of the page.

I'm reading the Velvet Roap diaries on my palm...
It kinda is a pain in the butt (kinda a small screen and I feel like I'm tapping every 2 secs).. I'm half way thru it now, and I don't really read it all the time, I kinda forget about it. I've been kinda using it as a "crap I'm stuck here and I forgot my paperback, oh wait I can read this and not be bored outta my goard" kinda thing.
I'm using the basic ereader deal that comes with it, so I'm not much help on software. I have yet to download the software to transfer the ebooks I have to the palm version where I can read them there..
Sorry I'm not much help. :bash:

I like reading books in my hand. It hurts my eyes otherwise. :P

I read ebooks. Before my Palm died I would read them on there - I used iSilo to read them because my books are in html format and I liked that program the best.
Otherwise I read them on my computer in html.

That's kind of where I am. Ugh, I'm stuck at the Dr.'s office and finished my carrying around book!

Thanks for the link! I downloaded it to my computer, but I can't seem to get a .pdf file to download to my palm. The Quick Install won't accept it. I'm not sure where to go from there.
Has anyone heard of Plucker? It's free, but I haven't tried it yet. It's off of the Gutenberg project website.
Plucker I think I might try it and see if it's easier than the free ereader.

Your welcome!
Let me know if Plucker works. I'm curious. Thanks.

I've used plucker but it's not very intuitive. Meaning, I'm pretty familiar with computers and such and it took me a bit to figure out how to get it working the way I wanted it. I highly recommend iSilo if someone needs a program to read ebooks on their pda's. There's a free sample with all the bells and whistles that expires after 30 days and then after that you can either use the simple version or pay for the upgrade, but it's perfectly fine as the simple version.
The problem with PDFs is that you have to convert them before the PDA knows how to read them. So you have to go to the adobe website and get the Adobe Reader for PDAs and run the file through that first. Otherwise, the pda doesn't know what to do with the file.
You can PM me if you need help either with iSilo or Adobe. I can probably help with plucker too, it's just been a while since I've used it and I don't have a copy on my comp anymore so I can't play along and walk you through it.

Thanks fantasy. It looked like Plucker accepted all types of formats. I'll try iSilo.
Also, did this thread get moved? I thought I started it under Chat? Does anyone know? I'm just wondering so I'll do it right next time.
I don't know what I'll do with the Roadkill book, maybe just read it on my computer during a lunch break.
