Description: basketball, college rivalry & ma nature

Ok, so the Southeastern Conference was having its tournament in Atlanta this weekend when a tornado came ripping through downtown Atlanta Friday night, shattering windows in the high-rises, busting pipes, damaging CNN center and pulling part of the roof off the venue - the blessing being that a last second throw by one of the players threw the game into overtime, keeping the crowd of over 30,000 in the arena just as the tornado hit - otherwise they would have been out on the street in a maelstrom of broken glass and debris. Amazingly, there were no deaths from this tornado, but estimated $150 million in damages.

Normally, the tournament would be postponed, but the National Collegiate Athletics Association told the SEC no, if the SEC wanted its champion in the NCAA playoffs, the champion must be picked this past weekend. (Thanks, guys.) So, there was a late night scramble for a new venue. Georgia Tech, Atlanta's Atlantic conference team, offered their stadium so the SEC tournament could go on beginning Saturday morning.

The University of Georgia, the team with the worst record in the SEC, overcame 3
teams in 48 hours, 2 in overtime, to win the SEC championship thanks to the generosity of their archrivals, GA Tech.

Perhaps world peace isn't just a dream.

I didn't know that. Go, Dawgs...

Even though I feel like quite the traitor saying that, as I am a Gator alumni (or... alumnus... which one do you use? I never figured that out) and bleed orange & blue. But I'm applying to grad school at UGA. Anyway, gotta love the SEC.

How'd GA even end up in the SEC tourny?

Good question. I follow football a lot more than basketball. Hmmm... a Gator-Dawg. That's gonna be tough come Jacksonville.  Oh- and my daughter the classic language major says
Alumna - one female grad,
Alumnae - 2 or more female grads,
Alumnus - one male grad,
Alumni - 2 or more grads.

Good Luck with grad school,

Go Dawgs, Go SEC, and no more twisters this year please. This weekend was quite enough!
