Title: Changing your Bookcrossing name?

Marlene - March 16, 2008 12:59 PM (GMT)
Hi I am thinking of changing my BC screen name.

Just wondering what the negatives will be if I do that?

Someone suggested CrazyForeignWoman and I very much like.

Apolonia - March 16, 2008 01:11 PM (GMT)
Well I think it does confuse things when someone changes their name. But if it makes you happy to be know as crazyforeignwoman then go for it. :D

Marlene - March 16, 2008 01:29 PM (GMT)
Oke it can be confusing for people like they think, hey who is this friend I ahve in my friends list?
But there must be more negative things to it?

NBy the way any other suggestions for a new screenname? :bananadance:

Danesnboxers - March 16, 2008 02:30 PM (GMT)
I like that one and it matches your avatar! :D

EllyMae58 - March 16, 2008 02:56 PM (GMT)
You've also been called CrazyDutchWoman. :)

I think you'd be okay if you changed it, Marleney. We all know who you are! :giggle:

Marlene - March 16, 2008 03:24 PM (GMT)
O how hard. CrazyDutch woman or CrazyForeignwoman

I like them both.
The latter is how you started calling me here.

Who would have suggested that?

giz-angel - March 16, 2008 04:39 PM (GMT)
I get confused too wen people change names - or don't have the same name here as BC - but I am very easily confused!

If I understand right that you really want to know what else might go wrong with changing your name -

I think the main concerns are:
  • that people will not recognize you anymore (so people who used to be willing to trade with you might not let you join their bookbox this time)
  • that it might look like you're trying to hide something (like this criticism of a possible book-hoarder on BC: "please don't lie and change your name")
But the good news is that you have so many friends here at BO who already know you (with both names, the old and the new) that you don't have to worry about either of those! :D

EDIT: And while I was trying to figure out how to make a list with html, giz posted another reason :giggle:

nwpassage - March 16, 2008 05:13 PM (GMT)
I changed mine, and it wasn't too much trouble. Some of my concerns were:

* Getting skipped on bookrings/rays because the name on the list no longer existed on bookcrossing. This happened at least once to me (even though I PM'd all the ring organizers to let them know of my name change) but it was no big whoop for me to miss out on one or two books.

* People not "recognizing" you any longer... but I can't see that being a big problem for you, since you hang out so much more here then at BC itself.

* It did kind of bother me for a while that books I released before the name change have my old screenname written in them... but it wasn't a big enough deal to me to stop me changing.

I say if you want to change it, go for it! Any problems are likely to be minor and sort themselves out. :)

Marlene - March 16, 2008 05:37 PM (GMT)
Thanks for all the help.

especially potok and nw for listing the negatives.

zzz - March 16, 2008 09:18 PM (GMT)
You're changing your nick?
Just for a record: In my address book you are under CrazyDutchWoman since always (and you wouldn't be "Foreign" among Dutch BookCrossers anyway but will be the only one who is Crazy  )

:giggle: :ditto2: I think ZZZ summed it up pretty well.

Well I like them both too. Everyone will still know exactly who you are around here anyway!

But yes, you're only "foreign" to non-Dutch people....
But then you were our Crazy Foreign Woman first....
And there's always the "crazy" part to explain any questions about the rest of the name.....
And they both sound good.....
So I'm no help. :P

CFW or CDW? :giggle:

Marlene - March 17, 2008 09:35 AM (GMT)
hmm I like CDW better but I have some emotional feelings to Crazyforeignwoman.
It feels like I am from the land of ET.

O what to do.

EllyMae58 - March 17, 2008 04:49 PM (GMT)
I like CDW better, only because I think it flows better.

needmorezoloft - March 17, 2008 05:26 PM (GMT)
I say go for it love.

I think you should create second profile as well. That's how you'll satisfy your multiple personality disorder appetites; you'll be able to alienate and become 'foreign' to yourself as well and then after stomach cramps are over you can be Dutch again. Not sure how to heal that "crazy" though

CdnBlueRose - March 17, 2008 06:28 PM (GMT)
Do whatever makes you happy, CFF!!!!

That will never change Milan.

This afternoon I was thinking of you.
I was making weird sounds and trying to talk a bit of Russian/Turkish gibberish. Then I thought lol, I wish i could tape this and send it to Milan. That would make him smile.

Yes I think I will go for the CrazyForeignWoman.
You just have to keep on calling me Marlene instead of CFW

I have more emotional attachment to tat name.
Normally I am the one that changes names here but i do not recall who started to call me that? anyone?

CdnBlueRose - March 17, 2008 08:01 PM (GMT)
Not sure, maybe Sand? I've always called you Crazy Foreign Friend or Crazy Foreign Sister......

Marlene - March 18, 2008 11:12 AM (GMT)
Maybe you then?

Well bad news. I can't do CFW cause it is to long.

so I will go fro CrazyDutchwoman .
choice has been made for me.

eta: YES I did it.
How exiting. :bananadance:

Now I have to change my url in my sig. Pm cherie and maybe change my zozo name to. I think CrazyDutchwoman will be free?

Oops I also had to email cliff for my wish list.
There is more hassle than I thought.

bluecat07 - March 18, 2008 11:32 AM (GMT)

Marlene - March 18, 2008 11:32 AM (GMT)

Marlene - March 19, 2008 03:28 PM (GMT)
Someone on BC suggested I should not forget to update my profile on RABCK.com

The problem is, How do I do that?

I don't think there is a way to change your screenname there so my profile points to my old BC shelf and it says they cannot find a member who is called Marlene-TC

Should I make a new account?

Cliff responded very quick by the way.
I will change it in my sig as well.
