Sunlightbub's reveal:
Beyond Evil by Nathan Yates
Synopsis
The horrific murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman shocked and sickened the nation. The man found guilty of their murders is now one of the most reviled men in the country. As if his crime was not dreadful enough, he has recently admitted that he lied under oath about the circumstances of one of the murders. This in-depth book is written by investigative journalist Nathan Yates, who witnessed the murder hunt first-hand and even interviewed Huntley and former girlfriend Maxine Carr. Yates also has an exclusive source for contact with Ian Huntley and will have further revelations about how far Huntley has lied about what happened that tragic day.
Please note this is TBR ( so I shouldn't really be playing with it, but I AM nearly up to date!!)

The Case of Mary Bell: A Portrait of a Child Who Murdered
by Gitta Sereny
Synopsis
In 1968, 11-year-old Mary Bell was found guilty of the manslaughter of two young boys. This study asks why one child would murder another, and provides the background to the Bell case. The author also gives her account of the case of James Bulger, now that the debate has tragically re-opened.

So glad everyone turned up.
I expected that because this is a genre which I love and buy new books off, I'd expected that maybe all the books would been books I have read.
Not that i would have mind.
But that is not the case.
Blue are you playing in the Chick Lit Swap?

Well, as I haven't been around very long and never seen you as a host in the other swaps I assumed this would be a first. Interesting - did you start the HF swap in the beginning?
But starting a swap based on ones own idea like you or root did must be exciting.
Yes, I am playing the chicklit swap. After having no internet for two months I allowed myself to play a bit more this month and then get down to approx. 2 a month again... :D
BTW - giz, I received an anglophone Bookbox organised by German bookcrossers today and in there was an audiobook registered by you. Funny coincidence!

Oh what a difference. from enjoying the beach back to the snow. :o

I remember when I was in LA , My aunty she lived in Anaheim, really close to DisneyLand.
She said Marlene and Alex (my boyfriend) we are going to the snow.
I thought huh? wth, but in just 2 hours we were indeed having so much fun in the snow. Was it Nevada? don't remember

Marlene - March 15, 2008 02:37 PM (GMT)
Oke This was soo hard. so many books to chose from.
I decided to go for 2 writers I "know" for some years from a True Crime book Club.
Murdered Innocents by Corey Mitchell
On December 6th, 1991, fresh-faced teens Jennifer Harbison and Eliza Thomas began to close up the Austin, Texas yogurt shop where they worked. They were joined by Jennifer's younger sister, Sarah, and her friend Amy Ayers. Less than an hour later all four girls were dead - apparent victims of a fire. But closer examination revealed that they had been bound and gagged, sexually assaulted, and shot execution-style. It was the most horrific crime the peaceful college town had seen since the infamous University of Texas Tower shootings in 1966. With no physical evidence or eyewitnesses and more than a hundred bizarre confessions to weed through, the Austin police faced one of their toughest cases ever. The family and friends who chanted "We will not forget," would have to wait nearly eight years before Robert Springsteen IV, Michael Scott, Maurice Pierce, and Forrest Welborn - teenagers themselves at the time of the murders - were taken into custody.

Murdered Innocents BC journaland
Gone Forever by Diane Fanning

Later that day, her husband reported her missing-and a desperate search began. Her friends and family hoped against hope that Susan was not gone forever. But investigators became increasingly suspicious of Richard McFarland. When the charred, decomposed body of Susan McFarland was finally discovered at an overgrown farmstead outside of San Antonio, a new hunt began-for justice.McFarland maintained his innocence, and investigators only had circumstantial evidence against him. While headlines screamed out new details in the case, and police tried to gather more evidence, a blockbuster trial was about to begin. Then, Richard McFarland finally spoke....and a terrifying, chilling truth came out....

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by JOHN BERENDT
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil From the book jacket:
"Shots rang out in Savannah's grandest mansion in the misty, early morning hours of May 2, 1981. Was it murder or self-defense? For nearly a decade, the shooting and its aftermath reverberated throughout this hauntingly beautiful city of moss-hung oaks and shaded squares. John Berendt's sharply observed, suspenseful, and witty narrative reads like a thoroughly engrossing novel, and yet it is a work of nonfiction. Berendt skillfully interweaves a hugely entertaining first-person account of life in this isolated remnant of the Old South with the unpredictable twists and turns of a landmark murder case. It is a spellbinding story peopled by a gallery of remarkable characters: the well-bred society ladies of the Married Women's Card Club; the turbulent young redneck gigolo; the hapless recluse who owns a bottle of poison so powerful it could kill every man, woman, and child in Savannah; the aging and profane Southern belle who is the "soul of pampered self-absorption"; the uproariously funny black drag queen; the acerbic and arrogant antiques dealer; the sweet-talking, piano-playing con artist; young blacks dancing the minuet at the black debutante ball; and Minerva, the voodoo priestess who works her magic in the graveyard at midnight. These and other Savannahians act as a Greek chorus, with Berendt revealing the alliances, hostilities, and intrigues that thrive in a town where everyone knows everyone else."
